To take 15 balls of wool on holiday?

MOIST · 07/09/2017 18:35

I could leave half of them behind but they'd be sad. And I might need them.

But is 15 too many? I could leave some clothes behind to make room for them?

Please tell me 15 Balkan isn't your entire stash?

I have that many down behind the sofa 😂

Take your yarn and enjoy :)

Tcga745 · 07/09/2017 21:15

Oh and of course you need all the wool for a holiday.

HepKestrel · 07/09/2017 21:15

That blanket is gorgeous!

MOIST · 07/09/2017 21:15

Don't be silly rabbit.

My proper stash is in 7 plastic crates, sorted into types and thicknesses. Also ongoing projects in their own bags and baskets.

And overflow behind the sofa.

Please don't tell the stash the new 15 balls are coming on holiday. They'll get jealous.

There's a huge crafty festival at Aly Paly, it's amazing!

Tcga745 · 07/09/2017 21:17

Oh that's excellent but all those hours I have wasted...

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 07/09/2017 21:17

A yarn festival? There are lots of yarn festivals in the UK. I found a blog post recently that covered a good number of them and when they were. I could probably find it again if you were interested in a nosy at what might be local to you.

MOIST · 07/09/2017 21:17

Bollox to Crete. Next year I'm going to all the yarn festivals.

Oh I'm so jealous, I have a 5 month old and I keep telling him to grow up already so I can get some knitting done. I often look at and caress my stash, tell it I love it and I'll be back with it soon. Sigh.

MumW · 07/09/2017 21:24

Sorry, don't have time to RTWT so apologies if this has already been suggested.

My DH always takes issue with my holiday yarn.
I've got a couple of vacuum bags that you roll up and it compresses the yarn into half the space.
You can't go on holiday without yarn and crochet hook.

MentalLentil · 07/09/2017 21:25

And YANBU.

llangennith · 07/09/2017 21:26

I love this thread☺

MOIST · 07/09/2017 21:35

Need a vacuum bag.

And razors, shower gel, flip flops, and to lose 4 stone or so.

Glad to hear that 15 balls have friends. I'm always suspicious of people who consider a small box to be a stash. Weirdos.

I love yarn. Absolutely love it.

RaininSummer · 07/09/2017 23:03

Not only should you take the fifteen balls but also some other project as you may
get bored doing just the blanket. I am doing moorland too.

Footle · 07/09/2017 23:14

My people.

KnitFastDieWarm · 07/09/2017 23:19

I only use circular wood, bamboo or plastic needles to fly with and have always been fine on planes, mainly because people don't really know what they are and they don't have the same 'OMG sharp point stabby thing!' look that straight needles do Wink

I'll just leave this here Grin

@rabbitcakes I once met someone who kept their entire stash (such as it were) in a SINGLE SMALL PLASTIC BOX under the coffee table Hmm I regarded him with the kind of suspicion I'd usually reserve for people who've just told me they're in the BNP or who think the lizard men are controlling their brains Grin I mean really, it's just wrong isn't it?

KnitFastDieWarm · 07/09/2017 23:24

@MOIST instead of nail clippers, may I suggest these www.woolwarehouse.co.uk/hiyahiya-octopus-snips-5cm?gclid=Cj0KCQjw3MPNBRDjARIsAOYU6x8sC6gjWVZa9mM1WlNK0Dos95Fg1fJjGu-btvdHg937UJ3N1-7miG4aAheGEALw_wcB
They are marvellous and don't look scissory, I've never had an issue with them

BlackeyedSusan · 07/09/2017 23:55

my entire stash is in a small box.

and a cupboard or two and a few larger boxes and a couple of bags

opinionatedfreak · 07/09/2017 23:59

I was worried at the thought your whole stash was only 15 balls.

(eyes the trunk, 4 plastic storage boxes and sideboard with slight fear).

Every year I vow I'm going to stash down and then I go to Edinburgh or FibreEast or have a bad day at work and find some must have buy on the Wollmeise website. Or my favourite dyer releases new stuff on easy and it pops up on my instagram.

Basically I am a yarn addict. It won't kill me so I don't fight it too hard and I have to knit something when I'm retired and poor.

Kerantli · 07/09/2017 23:59

My DP actively encouraged me to take my yarn and crochet hooks when we went away for a weekend! in one small bag I managed to fit enough in to keep me occupied, but it then turned out I didn't have time to crochet Sad

Seeingadistance · 08/09/2017 00:08

I changed job and moved house in March this year, and after coming back from Iceland with my 30 new lovelies I spent the fews days I had left before going back to work sorting out things in the house that were still not quite right since my move.

Well, every time I opened a cupboard or drawer or box or bag, I found more yarn! Yarn I'd forgotten I had, yarn I'm not convinced I'll ever actually use, but you never know, several WIPs still IP ...

Yarn festivals you say ....

traffordtimes · 08/09/2017 00:08

Apparently some people have had issues with crochet hooks etc in hand luggage

I can sort of see why with thinnish metal knitting needles, but you'd really have to be persistent to injure anyone with a crochet hook surely Grin!?
