To take 15 balls of wool on holiday?

MOIST · 07/09/2017 18:35

I could leave half of them behind but they'd be sad. And I might need them.

But is 15 too many? I could leave some clothes behind to make room for them?

Offer to knit him one of these!!

SpaghettiAndMeatballs · 07/09/2017 19:12

I took 8 balls (and 3 sets of knitting needles.. just in case) on my 4 day trip to Rome the other week, so if you're going longer, I think you have to (I didn't actually use all of them, but I might have)

Some airlines do allege issues with needles/hooks, but I've taken them on 5 different airlines in the last 6 months with no issues (and the seat pocket in front held the ball perfectly as I knitted and read on my phone... multi-tasking.

You do know you can vacuum pack your wool, it's not being mean to it. It's just a safer way for it to travel

vvviola · 07/09/2017 19:15

YABVVU. Don't you know you need to take emergency wool also. In case the project is boring/annoying/gets messed up.

You need at least 17 balls of wool.

Plus room for souvenirs.

I'm not allowed buy any more yarn, but souvenirs don't count. I made great use of my most recent holiday

missnevermind · 07/09/2017 19:16

I own this beauty.
you wouldn't believe the amount of emergency Crochet hooks I had to purchase over the years. This is going to save me.

This is the other piece of kit you should never travel without

Oh my. I actually need those. And have £30 of wool warehouse vouchers desperately needing to be spent.

Damn, that's another project added to my to do list on Ravelry.

Yes, take all the wool. I took an entire bagful for 2 day away last weekend.

starfishmummy · 07/09/2017 19:29

Nowhere near enough unless you know that there is somewhere you can buy more at your destination. And if there is then you need to take every possible hook/needle size and a pile of patterns.

(And if you are me there will be a pile of books, magazines and also art supplies. IPad goes.without saying. We travel by car...)

OP - YANBU

I am going on a day trip where I will be doing most of the driving, there will still be two projects coming with me. Just in case Wink Grin

MOIST · 07/09/2017 19:41

I've had a count up of rows and how many I'll manage. It would be foolish to leave 2 behind, not to mention terribly sad. So I will take them all.

I'll be the one sitting under my brolly by the pool with the 15 balls of beautiful, squishy, hot yarn.

Could you vac-pack them? They need a holiday, and you need all your yarn!

DMCWelshCakes · 07/09/2017 19:50

Leave DH at home and take the yarn.

Drknittingfrog · 07/09/2017 19:55

2 weeks holiday.. With our without children? If without them clearly the will needs to come and also make sure you have a bamboo hook for the plane so as to not get in trouble... Enjoy!

Drknittingfrog · 07/09/2017 19:55

Will? Wool of course!

Pizzaexpressreview · 07/09/2017 20:03

Definitely! I'm doing another attic 24 one and took all mine. Admittedly a UK holiday though!

purplecorkheart · 07/09/2017 20:29

The balls of wool (ideally in a vac bag)sound like a great idea. Just thinking of the return journey when they are in their final form. Will it be as easy to pack weight wise etc? Have a great holiday btw!!

MOIST · 07/09/2017 20:40

One week. No children. Just me and my wool Grin (and H if he behaves).

I took my knitting on holiday for a week a finally finished the tortoise project...go for it I say!

KnitFastDieWarm · 07/09/2017 21:04

I have found my people Grin
It is a truth universally acknowledged that there is no such thing as too much yarn.
Exhibit a - I actually ordered the attic24 coast blanket pack to be delivered to my holiday cottage back in July, because I'd run out of things to make. On a one week trip Blush
Exhibit b - When I went to Edinburgh yarn festival the last two years running, I brought an extra foldable hold bag for purchases (if you love yarny crafts and you've never been, you HAVE to go. It's every march and it's amazing)
Exhibit c - I got a removal man round last week to look at my house and give me a quote and he was utterly bemused by my yarn stash as it has its own shelving system

Basically, I am scarf lady from sarah and duck...

KnitFastDieWarm · 07/09/2017 21:06

Thanks for all the username love - considering it as a tattoo somewhere Grin

BabsGanoush · 07/09/2017 21:07

...wooly rivalry...

Don't you mean wooly ravelry

thank you

MOIST · 07/09/2017 21:12

A yarn festival? Shock. Really?

Oh my.

Tcga745 · 07/09/2017 21:13

Can you really knit on planes with wooden/ bamboo needles?

MOIST · 07/09/2017 21:13

I've taken an aluminium hook on planes. And bamboo ones.
I usually have a little nail clipper to save quibble about scissors.
