To think my cat might have rabies.

He's chewed all the flesh from the tip of his tail, he was panicking because it was wet. I know it sounds mental but there is a possibility he was bitten by a bat and in England one species can carry a rabies virus.

Goodness, I sound crazy.

Thank you everyone!

Just glad it wasn't more serious.

Could've done without the vet bill but I love the silly sod, despite his insistence that he's not a predator and it's perfectly fine to let the prey bite him!

He is gorgeous, get well soon Mouse x

RonSwansonsMoustache · 05/09/2017 19:11

Ah, poor kitty!

Get better soon Mouse (he looks very guilty in his cone!)

TizzyDongue · 05/09/2017 19:13

He's utterly gorgeous - bet he'll carry off the short tail look very well.

Don't be embarrassed about the rabies thing. If I came down to that I'd panic like mad too - and once something entered your head when you're in a panic it generally sticks.

Thepersonineedisnannymcphee · 05/09/2017 19:14

As well he might Ron!

£250 on a gerbil bite! weeps

I'm at the bit where the guests have just arrived. Some what concerned - Alysse (plus probably Bulky Git) and Josh are going to ramp up their arseholery tonight aren't they?

TizzyDongue · 05/09/2017 19:18

^ evidently wrong thread!!

pigsDOfly · 05/09/2017 19:22

What a beautiful chap.

Looks a bit bemused about the cone, poor love.

That must have been an awful shock to come down to this morning OP. I'm not surprised you panicked and imagined all sorts of awful things. Hope you and mouse are both feeling a lot better now and he's soon on the mend.

flumpybear · 05/09/2017 19:22

Poor Mouse!! You'll have to call him moose now though as they have shorter tails 😹😹😹

YesItsMeIDontCare · 05/09/2017 19:22

Oh OP he's gorgeous! Big fluffy cuddle for him from me please.

Serialweightwatcher · 05/09/2017 19:36

Aww he's so beautiful (and I'm a dog person) - bless him - hope he heals quickly poor love

Thepersonineedisnannymcphee · 05/09/2017 20:52

He got the cone off, lost it again and pulled a stitch out. Another blood bath all over the house. He's now in the cat carrier in the dark to keep him calm and quiet.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/09/2017 20:59

Oh no ! 😮
Did you manage to get it back on ?

Keel · 05/09/2017 21:02

Aw he's gorgeous. Hope he has a swift recovery

Thepersonineedisnannymcphee · 05/09/2017 21:08

Yes, but he's got it off again in the carrier. Seems calmer now.

The agression is really worrying me, he's really trying to attack himself. I've no idea how I'm going to keep him from hurting himself so he can heal.

Keel · 05/09/2017 21:12

Can the vet give him a sedative or something. Poor little thing

Runningpear · 05/09/2017 22:11

Google FHS cat, hopefully it will not be this but if you think it might be pls speak to your vet again ASAP. Really hope he's ok.

Willow2017 · 05/09/2017 22:58

OP I would phone the vet again. Sounds like something other than just a gerbil bite going on there. Thats not norma,l its possible Runningbear is right.

Hope poor Mouse is better soon.

TippyTinkleTrousers · 05/09/2017 23:11

Oh wow poor Mouse!

How old is he?

Thepersonineedisnannymcphee · 05/09/2017 23:13

I'm phoning again first thing.

He's settled and calm atm. I do agree though that something else is going on. Sad

OP posts:
Thepersonineedisnannymcphee · 05/09/2017 23:13

He's 6.

TippyTinkleTrousers · 05/09/2017 23:17

I read the FHS thing. It does sound possible. ☹️

Poppyfields21 · 05/09/2017 23:24

Oh no poor Mouse :( I hope the vet can work our what is getting him so worked up and prevent him doing himself any more harm. Best of luck with the vet in the morning Sad

TizzyDongue · 05/09/2017 23:40

Ah no - can you tie the collar more tight (you'll need to get two fingers under still) only way mind kept his collar on was tightening it.

How's he when you handle him?

Seeingadistance · 05/09/2017 23:50

Oh, no! Poor Mouse.

I hope the vet is able to work out what's going on, and how to make Mouse feel better.
