I'm absolutely shocked.

That includes food, nappies and wipes.

In Scotland and I paid £36 until they were two and then £34 after. Not in a city centre which helps. I would have expected more in London but not elsewhere.

jelliebelly · 04/09/2017 19:16

Sounds about right. Put it into context it's less than we pay our babysitter per hour and you are entrusting them with the care of your child...

Nelly1727 · 04/09/2017 19:16

Sounds about right to me.

Pinkvici22 · 04/09/2017 19:18

I paid a bit less than that 3/4 years ago but had to provide own nappies and wipes, so I think for a good nursery it's probably about right!

Nearlyadoctor · 04/09/2017 19:18

South west here and we were paying £49 a day six years ago.

Me264 · 04/09/2017 19:19

£66.50 a day here for DS in the South East. Includes all food, nappies, wipes etc. He goes 4 days a week and it costs us about £1k a month net after childcare vouchers reduce it slightly. Will go down a bit when he turns 2 and then again at 3 when the free hours kick in. Obviously it's a lot of money but I think it's pretty good value for money really.

becotide · 04/09/2017 19:19

Try a childminder?

RolyRocks · 04/09/2017 19:19

It's not a choice if you end up spending more on childcare than you earn.

It is still a choice, albeit not a nice one to have to make. I currently have to pay more in childcare than I earn. However, I am still paying into my pension, still keeping my job and maintaining my experience and skills and CPD. I decided that a few years of not 'making any money' would be worth it, when I don't have the stress of job hunting and lack of recent experience, when school starts.

It was a choice I made. I don't like it when people say I have no choice but to work or I have no choice but to stay at home as that is not strictly true. It is just that the one option won out in the decision making process.

FruitCider · 04/09/2017 19:20

I used to pay £58 a day for 07:45 - 17:15, meals were £4 a day extra. So I would say that's pretty reasonable! It obviously gets cheaper when they turn 3. And I'm skipping for joy this week as my DChild is off to SCHOOL so childcare fees have dropped from £144 a week to £30 a week as I can just book the days I need with my rota GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Heatherbell1978 · 04/09/2017 19:20

£46 a day where I am outside Edinburgh. There are ways to bring it down. We use childcare vouchers which I think amounts to about £120 a month off (might be wrong here!) And now DS is 3 we get Government rebate amounting to about £180 a month. Once DD starts nursery we'll move to the new Government scheme which works out better than vouchers if you have 2 kids. Plus our nursery gives a 10% discount for the second child.
I'm not suggesting it's cheap but make sure you do your research into what help is available out there.

Paddingtonthebear · 04/09/2017 19:21

£50 a day here (nursery open 30am ish -5.30pm ish). South coast, expensive town. Outstanding rated nursery, small group size no baby room. Doesn't include food or nappies or wipes.

Paddingtonthebear · 04/09/2017 19:21

Open 8.30am-5.30pm ish, that should say!

Pigface1 · 04/09/2017 19:22

If you're in the south east that's reasonably good.

I mean it's insane, because the cost of childcare in this country is insane, but that's a different discussion.

PopcornBits · 04/09/2017 19:22

About 2-3 years ago I paid £33 a day with wipes and nappies included.

Now I pay £49 for a full day with no nappies or wipes haha

KittyVonCatsington · 04/09/2017 19:23

Try a childminder?

Interestingly, childminders in my area cost more when I went to meet them. They often charged the same (or a little more to include food)plus extra for any group/activity they attended.

TurquoiseDress · 04/09/2017 19:23

That seems about right if you are somewhere like London- I have friends who pay a daily rate higher than that amount.

Day rate for the nursery we use currently is about £52 but that has staff discount applied to it.

Vonklump · 04/09/2017 19:23

Expensive, yes. Going rate, yes.

toddlepip · 04/09/2017 19:23

Jesus fucking Christ!!!

The one near me is £7-8 a day!!!

EasterRobin · 04/09/2017 19:24

That's about the rate I pay (Oxfordshire). Yes, nursery places are expensive and I couldn't afford to work if we had more than one child there.

happypoobum · 04/09/2017 19:24

It's pretty average for the south east I should think.

A lot of nurseries charge more than that where I live and I certainly have friends who have paid considerably more, but they were on six figure salaries................

CrazyLittleCow · 04/09/2017 19:25

Locally that was expensive, most are £37, I'm in the north west!

Yes but in the NW you'd also be earning less. It's really all relative.

CrazyLittleCow · 04/09/2017 19:25

The one near me is £7-8 a day!!!

What? For full time care for a toddler or baby, 8-6??? Confused

TurquoiseDress · 04/09/2017 19:26

That price is in London- includes food but no nappies/wipes

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 04/09/2017 19:26

I paid £70 per day 5 years ago not including nappies and wipes but it did include food. That's in the SE.

liquidrevolution · 04/09/2017 19:29

£69 a day 7.30-5.30. Food included but not nappies or wipes.

West Berks.
