That includes food, nappies and wipes.

welshweasel · 04/09/2017 18:04

£45 at our outstanding nursery in the midlands.

Hunkle · 04/09/2017 18:05

Pizzalove · 04/09/2017 18:05

£30 in late 90's Shock

waterrat · 04/09/2017 18:05

I pay 50 a day for my childminder 8-6 in London. I think its actually incredibly cheap considering my child is more precious to me than anythng and that is only £5 an hour! not saying it's easy to pay out of normal family salaries but it's not expensive.

OneForTheRoadThen · 04/09/2017 18:05

Yep. We pay that in London zone 5. Shocking isn't it 🤷‍♀️

mmzz · 04/09/2017 18:07

What is the ratio the nursery has to provide 3:1 or 6:1? If 3:1, then that's not very expensive for 101/2 hours of work

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/09/2017 18:07

Totally depends on where you are - it would be expensive for Edinburgh (there are nurseries who charge that but most are more in the £40-£55ish bracket IME)

Cheap for London I suspect.

QueSera · 04/09/2017 18:07

That's a bargain - well depends where you are located. Around us it's £80 to £100+ a day and not even for as long a day as youre getting

fufulina · 04/09/2017 18:08

We paid £90 a day eight years ago.

user1490607838 · 04/09/2017 18:09

Oops shoulda said that was for 2 children - £30 a day in the late 1990's. Sorry!

Was £18 for one! SORRY. Blush

DressedInBinBags · 04/09/2017 18:09

We pay £40 a day and that does include days out ect but not nappies. She is still bottle fed so we provide them but when she is weened her food is included.

PricklyCacti · 04/09/2017 18:10

£38 a day here including breakfast, dinner, tea and snacks. I'm in Bradford though!

HelloSquirrels · 04/09/2017 18:11

Ours is £40 a day in west Yorkshire. Doesn't include nappies or wipes. And us only 8-6

GoldilocksAndTheThreePears · 04/09/2017 18:11

It's kind of sad really. Every nursery I've worked at has been minimum wage, high turnover due to it. Truly wish childcare got more funding and support. Current job advert -

Job role: baby Room Leader.

Location: Richmond.
Salary: £19,500 per annum

That's a full time position as a room leader, so you have to have done a level 3 qualification and have a few years experience, in SW London where a room in a shared flat can be up to £1000/m! Just wish there was more funding and just anything to up quality and lower costs.

Fekko · 04/09/2017 18:11

How old is the child? Child to staff ratio is higher for younger children, so add up wages, rent, insurance etc etc etc.

Gretia · 04/09/2017 18:11

That sounds cheap -about £70pd is average here with up to £90pd in the city.

DanielsandLukesmum · 04/09/2017 18:11

It's outstanding and in Essex.

Pretty standard I'm afraid. Nurseries are expensive!

bigkidsdidit · 04/09/2017 18:13

Bloody hell! £38 here including snacks but not lunch.

Myhomeismycastle · 04/09/2017 18:13

My DS starts in January. £5.40 per hour (south west) but that doesn't include nappies/wipes or food.

Nappies are 50p per change (if you don't provide nappies).

Lunch is £3.10- he'll be 11 months then, he's not going to eat £3.10 worth of food!

gingergenius · 04/09/2017 18:14

I think the point that us missing here is the cost to the nursery if providing that service.

They are a business, not a charity (as is a childminder). They gave staff to pay who have bills to pay just like their customers. They have to have insurance, buy equipment, pay tax and ni for their staff etc etc etc.

As a pp stated it works out as around £5 per hour (if I recall?) that's actually very little for the security of knowing that your child is cared for correctly, with staff who are trained and in an environment that is safe, monitored and managed.

I don't work in childcare but I do think there are times when people forget how much legislation is required to look after other people's kids and that if we want said childcare, we have to understand that.

Snausage · 04/09/2017 18:15

I pay more than that for an 8am-6pm day and it doesn't include wipes/nappies/nappy sacks!

YourHandInMyHand · 04/09/2017 18:16

It completely depends what area of the country you live in, and even then it can vary hugely in one town.

I work in childcare as an Ofsted registered childminder and in my area I charge an average rate of £3.40 per hour including lovely home cooked food!

Willow2017 · 04/09/2017 18:17

That's about £6 an hour for the care plus food plus wipes plus nappies. That's not bad if you are in a city. It's cheaper in the sticks but it wouldn't include all those things.

How much do you think you should pay?

Have you checked if you qualify for tax credits?
