I'm absolutely shocked.

That includes food, nappies and wipes.

DD2 has just finished nursery. We paid £75 per day in greater London. It was an outstanding nursery, staff were fab and they always did loads of great activities with the kids so it felt like good value for money. Price was average for the area.

RuskBaby · 04/09/2017 18:47

Ours is £67 per day. I'll be going back to work out my contract so that I don't have to pay back my mat pay. I earn less than this.

TeachesOfPeaches · 04/09/2017 18:50

Totally reasonable since it includes nappies etc

NoArmaniNoPunani · 04/09/2017 18:54

We pay that for 8-6. I consider it excellent value for the care DS gets

FlandersRocks · 04/09/2017 18:54

I'm surprised just how many people think that's reasonable tbh. My cm charges £35 a day, local nurseries around the same. Seems horrendously expensive to me.

GabsAlot · 04/09/2017 18:54

5.95 an hour-no not expensive thyre a business

Seriously why do people not understand that it's relative to what part of the country you're in?

It's like going omg that house would only cost 150k in Manchester and in London it costs 350! Well yes but in London you'd also get paid double the amount you would in Manchester.

KittyVonCatsington · 04/09/2017 18:58

I pay £72 full time between 7:30pm and 6:00pm and that doesn't include nappies or wipes. But I'm in SE London. Really depends on where you are. Won't be forever I keep telling myself!

insancerre · 04/09/2017 18:59

My local handyman wanted to charge me £55 an hour
Now, that's expensive
I earn £10.50 an hour as a nursery manager

NanooCov · 04/09/2017 19:00

Our fees don't include nappies and wipes but all meals included for 7.45 to 18.00. £84 for under 2s, £79 for over 2s. It's the market rate in our area.

KittyVonCatsington · 04/09/2017 19:01

A very interesting read, Tanith. Thank you.

MsJudgemental · 04/09/2017 19:01

How much would you expect to earn for looking after someone's baby, OP?

demirose87 · 04/09/2017 19:02

It does sound expensive. The nursery I worked in was 30 pound a day and my daughter's is 32 pound a day but it will depend what area you're in. Most nurseries don't supply nappies and wipes.

PoppyFleur · 04/09/2017 19:03

Crazy in which industry do you get paid double the amount in London than Manchester? My previous employer paid the same salary regardless of location.

OP - £62.50 was the amount we paid in 2012.

ImMrsBrightside · 04/09/2017 19:05

I'm in London and think that's reasonable! Some I have looked at are £90!

dadshere · 04/09/2017 19:06

You are getting a good deal IMO. Here, we had to pay £65 for 9-3. Since we don't work those hours we had to pay an extra £25 a day for early drop off and late pick up. It did not include nappies either! It was not financially worth me going back to work, except for maintaining the pension. I would have had more cash in my hands had I not worked.

Invisimamma · 04/09/2017 19:06

Central Scotland here, £50 per day 8-6. If you want at 7:30 start it's £6 extra, so £56 for the day.

After school club £10 per day.

Adding train fair into it at £15 per day, childcare wipes out one of our salaries. We pay it to stay in the job market.

missmapp · 04/09/2017 19:07

We paid £55 per day ten years ago, so seems about right. Once the free hours kick in costs go down !

KittyVonCatsington · 04/09/2017 19:08

Parents who don't use childcare? People who don't have children? I'm sure that would go down well.

Plenty of 'taxpayers' money goes on a wide variety of services. Not everyone goes to university, or uses a library etc. yet the money comes from the pool of government funds. Same for childcare. Those children will hopefully be paying into the pension 'pot' that also benefits the childless when they retire...

LadyLovelace · 04/09/2017 19:10

MissJSays, I'm also in the NW. We pay about £60 a day here. (Nursery on the A34 going into Manchester)

scarlett1987 · 04/09/2017 19:12

I pay the same for DD. We have to supply nappies and wipes on top of that

NancyFrank · 04/09/2017 19:12

It's a difficult one, it is expensive but I am a nursery nurse and earn so little I'm considering a different career even though I love my job.

Rufus27 · 04/09/2017 19:13

That's what we pay (Westcountry). For what you get, including peace of mind, I dont think it's bad at all.

dertyyuoih2 · 04/09/2017 19:15

😱😱😱
I can't believe you pay that much everyone! I begrudged paying £44 for 8-6. Locally that was expensive, most are £37, I'm in the north west!
