AIBU to be sobbing into my ice-cream because my DD fell asleep on me?

I picked her up to give her a cuddle because she was being a fusspot, and she snuggled in, yawned and fell straight to sleep.

She hasn't fallen asleep on me since she was 5mo (10mo now). She insists on sleeping in her cot. She always used to need rocking to sleep and honestly while at the time it was a bit of a PITA, I have really missed it since she stopped doing it. There was something magic and wonderful about cuddling her warm little body as she snoozed.

DP clearly doesn't know why I'm sobbing silently into ice-cream.

Would anyone else get so emotional over this, or do I need to pull up my big girl knickers and get a grip?

I would!!

My son hasn't slept on me in months now :(

mummmy2017 · 03/09/2017 21:34

OMG there is nothing that beats a soft warm body, head on your boobs,,,,

cheminotte · 03/09/2017 21:35

Yanbu. Its so lovely when they do things you thought they'd grown out of. (The good stuff - less so with tantrums from a 5 year old for example)

My DS is 4. I almost enjoy it a little bit when he's poorly and wants cuddles and falls asleep on me Blush I'm a bad person

kaytee87 · 03/09/2017 21:36

I love when my 13mo falls asleep on me or cuddles me. He comes up to me holding his dummy and teddy when he's tired and lies his head on my knee 😍 it's so cute.

Ds is 10yo and still does so occasionally, especially when ill.
There's something magical and very soporific about it still.

wheresthel1ght · 03/09/2017 21:37

Not at all. My dd turned 4 3 weeks ago and hasn't fallen asleep on me since she was about 6 months old except when poorly. She cam for a snuggle a few nights ago as she had woken up after a bad dream, cuddled up and was snoring in seconds. I would have stayed their all night if not for the blasted pee fairy!

ineedwine99 · 03/09/2017 21:40

So sweet! My baby is 1 now and hasn't napped on my since 6m old, i was working from home a couple of weeks ago when she had a tummy bug and she fell asleep cuddling me, I was so happy! Had to put her in her cot though as i had work to do. At the time it was a pain but now she only sleeps in her cot i miss the cuddly naps 😔

gwenneh · 03/09/2017 21:40

YANBU. Would pay good money to have more of those moments!

EdmundCleverClogs · 03/09/2017 21:40

Bless you! My partner felt like this. Then in the last few weeks (coincidentally as he's been weaned from breastfeeding), my extra-large two year old has only been settled by being rocked like a baby again. I can't do it (pregnant and ruined back/pelvis), suddenly daddy is regretting saying how much he missed his snugly little baby. I have to say though, I do still love an extra cuddle before putting his sleepy head into bed. They grow too quickly!

Caenea · 03/09/2017 21:42

I had to put her in her cot because my arm felt like it was going to fall off - she's 20lb now, and she's honestly far too heavy for it, but arrrrggggh it was so so lovely.

God I want another teeny one. I know my friend's 3mo is a terrible sleeper - I'm tempted to pop round and offer my services as a pillow. His little head still has that newborn smell too.

My 6 year old DD fell asleep on me snuggled up in a towel on a sun lounger on holiday, I loved it!

gentlydoesit89 · 03/09/2017 21:45

My 5yo crawled into my bed last night and slept until morning which hasn't happened since he was about 18mo. He's always been fidgety and independent when it comes to his sleep, so I lay there staring at him for ages and wishing he still had new baby smell Grin

ButtMuncher · 03/09/2017 21:47

My nearly 1 year old has started cuddling/drifting off in my arms lately. Same sort of time, around. 6m he stopped sleeping on my chest/in arms without a fight and he switched to sleeping in his cot with no problems. But last few weeks since he's been at nursery and was poorly, he's very clingy and cuddly Grin I love it Bear

It just isn't the same with somebody else's baby

onemorecakeplease · 03/09/2017 21:49

My dd will do this sometimes and she is 5
It's the most amazing thing - feeling her snuggling in and watching her wee face relax as she falls asleep.
Makes me cry too!

furryelephant · 03/09/2017 21:52

My 9 month old only ever wants to sleep on me Hmmmost of the night she'll put up with just being next to me in my bed... I'm losing count of the amount of times she wakes me up with a head butt to either share my pillow or clamber on to me to have a cuddle. Cute, but 9 months of sitting with a baby napping on you gets pretty boring Grin

JosephGetDownFromThere · 03/09/2017 21:55

My then 8 year old son fell asleep on me and Dh filmed it because it was sooo lovely.

He slept on me a lot when he was a baby because he was incredibly ill with reflux so needed to sleep almost upright.

I did love it when he slept on me aged 8, although heavy it was still precious.

MrsChopper · 03/09/2017 21:55

I love when DS falls asleep on me. It's one of life's greatest pleasures!

Belleende · 03/09/2017 21:58

I have a 2 yo who never sits still. As soon as she was mobile, that was it. I remember one day when she was still a toot, I was supposed to go out and meet some other mums. But I didn't I just sat on the sofa all day feeding her, watching telly and snuggling (and eating cake). I am sooooo glad I took that time now. I am lucky if I get a five minute pre bed snuggle now.

Caenea · 03/09/2017 21:58

@Furry, I know if she still wanted to only sleep on me I'd probably be going completely bonkers.

But God I loved it tonight. DP was all "Why are you crying?! It's lovely!" and I was like "I'm happyyyyyyy." He threw some ice cream at me. He's a good egg.

I miss this!
Ds2 needed to be cuddled to sleep for ages. It was a right pain at the time. Then he needed to co sleep, snuggled up tight. It left me with chronic shoulder pain.
He stopped at about 2 1/2 and I missed it.
He's 31/2 now and came in once recently in the middle of the night for a cuddle.
I nearly cried too! It was just so lovely to lie there sniffing his soft hair. Then he got up and went back to his own bed. I was very sad.
However my shoulder still hurts.

Maelstrop · 03/09/2017 22:08

A friend's 4 month old just donked himself onto my chest the other day when I was holding him, just cuddling in and trying to go to sleep. Sweetest baby ever!

d270r0 · 03/09/2017 22:10

Stop! I swore I didn't want another child and you are making me feel all maternal!
