Continued from original post...

OP posts:
Mumsytomy · 03/09/2017 14:24

its just a shame I'd have to wade through the vitriol to get to the thought provoking stuff 👎🏻

I'm not sure Theonlygirlinthehouse thinks it's that ok!

BubbleAnimal · 03/09/2017 14:25

I don't follow the only girl. So did she do a knee jerk reaction on the back of someone elses post, and has now read the thread and done a story to say it's actually not what she originally thought?

holidaywoe · 03/09/2017 14:25

I'm an instagram fanatic, ( as mrshorsy)I just bloody love it !! I've also been known to scroll through MN (though it's not as appealing as there's no pictures for me to look at)
Sometimes some of the stuff on here makes me want to stand on my soapbox and join in or makes me wonder if the people
Contributing are actually real. I have this similar experience with instagram and with people who I meet in actual real life !!! The thing is it would be a weird place if we all agreed and held the same opinions.
I'm an avid follower of Susie and of MP and I love their stories and chat and if they happen to be chatting about something I don't agree with I skip on by (e.g. Susie's rant on all MN being .....whatever it is she actually said. I didn't stay to listen)
I have no problem either with the ads and have often gone on to buy things that I have seen them indorse. I don't check to see if it's #ad a it really isn't important to me. If they get free stuff then good on them, I know I wouldn't say no to a family holiday or even a few clothing goodies (though Boden a bit frumpy for my taste ) please take note All Saints or Nike !!!

yummycake123 · 03/09/2017 14:28

Some of the comments on IG are a real bitchfest...
"Mumsnet is full of bored, dried up old hags who have nothing better to do than hide behind their keyboards spouting absolute bollocks about other people..[...] Fuck them."
So much sucking up!! Do they realise how ironic those bitchy comments are? Some followers really sound like they're in a cult/sect. So bizarre.
I. Don't. Get. It.
(Maybe it's because I'm an "old hag" (40s) ? Grin)

Mothervulva · 03/09/2017 14:29

I think Mamas are the new huns.

FuckingLoveCarbs · 03/09/2017 14:30

I'm a young hag. 27, ta very much!

holidaywoe · 03/09/2017 14:36

Mamas is a bit of a Hun and it used to irritate me but now my son calls me mama so I've had to learn to love it ! I don't know why he's 11 and it's a name he's slipped into only in the past couple of years random

minniemummy0 · 03/09/2017 14:44

Been lurking on these threads... haven't read through it all. Had a quick scan and didn't see it mentioned - an Instagrammer suffolktractorgirl mentions this thread on her Insta-story; seems like you guys have hit a nerve, hehe.

LaMereDuChat · 03/09/2017 14:56

If any of the Instamums (apart from MotherPukka - good for her as she already gets it) had any sense, they'd read this thread and use it as a massive free focus group. It seems the rules should be:

  1. Don't push too much crap - it makes you look desperate and also makes for very dull content
  2. When you are pushing crap, make sure it's crap that you would actually use. If you'd paid for it, would you tell a friend about it? If not, just say no.
  3. Always make free nature of said crap very clear or you will irritate your followers. If you have bought something (c.f. the Miele debate), make this clear so your followers know you're not always grabby.
  4. One your kids' ages hit double figures, make sure they are out of shot.

I think that's all. P.S. Does anyone know of any male fashion bloggers for the 40+ aged man?

Waitinforaflamin · 03/09/2017 15:03

LaMereDuChat Yep totally. Rather than getting all defensive fueling the MN vs IG read this, and either agree or disagree but take it as valid consumer research.

I agree with all but number 4. I would say they should continue to discuss with their kids being on IG and as soon as they say they don't want to be in a post then respect that. This can be earlier than double figures in age.

Runningyogabooze · 03/09/2017 15:05

I follow greyfoxblog who is an older man's style blog - he is prob more 50+

balletvalet · 03/09/2017 15:12

The thing is, there are people advertising all over insta, I follow quite a few "made in Chelsea" people (Blush) and they're constantly advertising, rarely using the #ad hashtag, and they're DEFINITELY already rich and don't need free stuff! I wonder why we're so quick to have a go at mum bloggers for doing it.
I don't follow these people because I find the whole mumblog thing really cringe, and whilst there is definitely a discussion to be had about using your kids to help sell nit stuff etc, I think advertising in general is often part and parcel of blogging. If these mums do it too much then I'm sure people will unfollow.

BabsGanoush · 03/09/2017 15:15

where are you finding these comments (sorry - instavirgin)

langkaw · 03/09/2017 15:17

@LaMereDuChat can we add the following:

Please accept the fact that some people will always find you twee and try hard and might want to discuss that on another forum in the same way you might want to discuss Kerry Katonas tummy tuck when you are down the pub with your mates. Please accept that people can and will discuss you when you put your life out there online. Please accept that, learn to live with it otherwise mummygramming is not for you.

MakeItStopNeville · 03/09/2017 15:25

I think my favourite comment on the Susie V page is describing MNers as "angry flappy vaginas with internet access". #sistahood #womensupportingwomen

Mumsytomy · 03/09/2017 15:30

So weird as there seems to be more angry flappy vaginas on Instagram.

BubbleAnimal · 03/09/2017 15:32

balletvalet I think the mums were the focus here as they were more likely to be followed by mums here if that makes sense? I have no interest in towie or mic or similar so don't follow any of them on Instagram.

BubbleAnimal · 03/09/2017 15:33

I have a very non flappy vagina thank you very much - I am honeymoon perfect Grin

DillyDilly · 03/09/2017 15:35

That flappy vagina comment was from someone trying to get herself noticed and come across as being cool, witty and edgey. A massive fail on her part, those she's not too embarrassed.

spiney · 03/09/2017 15:36

Hope she is embarrassed.

Roundandroundtheapartment · 03/09/2017 15:37

Marking place for a read later

TealStar · 03/09/2017 15:40

Angry flappy vaginas?

How immature and misogynistic. Hmm

I would be embarrassed to be supported by such vitriolic messages.

OvariesForgotHerPassword · 03/09/2017 15:43

As a blogger, I'm finding this thread fascinating. As someone said, it's like a focus group, and yet so many people are so quick to jump on the "I can write an angry post about this and set my followers on the nasties" bandwagon.

This is essentially free critiques and feedback from people who read blogs and use instagram and follow instamums. It's like a what to do and what not to do list. Instead of taking the feedback and working with it, people are stamping their feet and making woe is me instagram stories. It's ridiculous.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 03/09/2017 15:46

Instead of taking the feedback and working with it, people are stamping their feet and making woe is me instagram stories

Beautifully put Ovaries.

MainFlamingo · 03/09/2017 15:48

That vagina comment is absolutely vile.
