Not a thread about a thread but i suppose several? I do appreciate the demographic of mumsnet is unlikely to be people of lower socio economic class and lower education levels but there really is a very daily mail feel about mumsnet atm in some of the views ive been here about 8 years on and off and its more noticeable now? I'll give myself a biscuit but i get influxed Biscuit

Why don't you give an example of what you're talking about?

WiseDad · 30/08/2017 17:16

Pray tell, what is a Daily Mail feel? Is it good or bad in your view? Hard to know but context suggests we should infer you feel it is bad.

Personally I see casual sexism quite a lot here. "I know having a penis means you can't see dirt" as an example. Tongue in cheek? I always assume so.

speckofglitter · 30/08/2017 17:16

Mumsnet is more Guardian than Daily Mail, I would say, although I think that it's moved away from Boden, Agas and Farrow & Ball over the last eighteen months.

Ttbb · 30/08/2017 17:16

Of course there is, the majority of posters are British.

SDaddy007 · 30/08/2017 17:17

I honestly get the feeling that it's far more Guardian than Daily Mail

ImperialBlether · 30/08/2017 17:17

I don't think there's a DM feel about it at all.

I feel that there is huge potential for this site to be classist, as I agree, the demographic strikes me as distinctly middle class. However, I also think that the majority of posters here are extremely careful about being tolerant, non-discrimatory and inclusive. Astonishingly so at times, when compared to other middle class people I meet in real life actually. Make of that what you will! So, no, imo, YABU.

Ecclesiastes · 30/08/2017 17:21

Reading the DM is an infallible marker of a poor education.

Pigface1 · 30/08/2017 17:23

I definitely think mumsnet is more upper-middle-class liberal than daily mail. Remember all the millions of pro-Corbyn threads around the time of the GE!

redphonebox · 30/08/2017 17:23

Not really to be honest. If you read the daily mail comments and then mumsnet, the two look quite different IMO.

SparklyUnicornPoo · 30/08/2017 17:23

Yeah I've noticed this a bit lately, the comments are generally worded quite nicely but there is an air of superiority.

The80sweregreat · 30/08/2017 17:24

Mos,t people on here loathe the daily mail overall.
I do feel that a lot of posters are middle class as opposed to working class ( i am working class ) but it doesnt mean i dont agree with them.
Its a mixed bag mostly. The class threads usually start a bun fight though..

SteelyTesticlesOfObjectivity · 30/08/2017 17:29

I think people like to think that. I only ever see links to the DM on MN though. Never anywhere else in my computing life. And yes it is obsessed with class. Just look at the millions of "am I middle class" thread

Ifailed · 30/08/2017 17:29

There is a huge correlation between DM readers and MN, something that MN acknowledge and the DM are only too aware, hence why seem to post a 'story' about MN every day.

Bluntness100 · 30/08/2017 17:30

I don't understand what you mean. I've lost count of the amount of competitive poverty threads, the thirty k is a HUGE salary threads, the can I stay home to look after my kid and claim benefits threads, the you don't need money to be happy and if you think you do you're a materialistic twat threads, and then ones at the other end are fewer, private school, that kind of thing, For me it's probably a fair mix.

Wheelycote · 30/08/2017 17:31

I don't see predominantly middle class at all.

There seems to be more trolls than middle class

Namechangeblock · 30/08/2017 17:34

You seem to be equating being middle class with reading the daily mail Confused whereas in reality believing the daily mail is an indicator of being poorly educated...

twattymctwatterson · 30/08/2017 17:34

I don't agree that there's a Daily Mail feel to the place but yes there is a lot of classism - often under the banner of "light hearted". Mumsnet is class obsessed

Sunbittern · 30/08/2017 17:36

I don't think MN seems classist. I don't even think classism exists in the UK anymore.

Eolian · 30/08/2017 17:36

Much more Guardian than Daily Mail. The Mail is constantly slated on MN (and rightly so). Yes, there's plenty of classism on here- in both directions - but probably no more than in rl. It's just that people say what they think on here because it's an anonymous forum.

nina2b · 30/08/2017 17:38

Daily Mail!? You cannot be serious!!!!!!

HalfShellHero · 30/08/2017 17:39

I maybe worded daily mail type views badly yes many posters like to appear tolerant about many things apart from lower class families the overweight child thing has descended into poor bashing aparently they also dont give bedtimes and regularly go out and have huge deserts and other pearlers, children in resturants threads go a similar way..

You must have missed all of the "Jeremy Corbyn is the best thing since sliced bread and the saviour of us all" and the "anyone who votes/voted Tory is really just like a fascist and should throw themselves of Beachy Head" threads then. Hmm
