Not a thread about a thread but i suppose several? I do appreciate the demographic of mumsnet is unlikely to be people of lower socio economic class and lower education levels but there really is a very daily mail feel about mumsnet atm in some of the views ive been here about 8 years on and off and its more noticeable now? I'll give myself a biscuit but i get influxed Biscuit

I come from a lower-middle class family.
I went to a top school in my part of the UK, got straight As and multiple post-grad qualifications. I've read and travelled extensively.
I fucking love the Daily Mail. And MN.
But I have no DCs.
Just FWIW.

Some extremely silly comments on here about reading the Daily Mail, most likely because from what I've seen 95% of posters are very very left wing and woe betide anyone who express an opinion that does not toe the Mumsnet Party line.
People seem to follow like sheep sometimes on here and can be quite intolerant/spiteful...

SabineUndine · 30/08/2017 21:47

I think there are quite a lot of Hyacinth Buckets on here, not as posh as they would like us to think and running other people down to boost their egos.

I'm definitely not posh but I can recognise the genuine article and it ain't Hyacinth.

SabineUndine · 30/08/2017 21:48

user being left wing doesn't make you sheeplike IME. Be careful who you have a go at.

Jakeyboy1 · 30/08/2017 21:51

I agree. And aside from the election I don't think the guardian view is that prominent. It is quite funny how people hate the DM and spout the exact same shit as it!

DrHorribletookmycherry · 30/08/2017 21:53

There seems to be a lot of confusion (down right egotistical claptrap). Middle Class can mean right or left wing and it can mean intelligent or average.
Just because you are (or aren't) middle class/ working class does not mean everyone in that (entirely made up) group shares your experiences or opinions.
Get over it.

Sabine

Not necessarily no but the two points weren't intended be related.

  1. It's vocally leftwing
  2. People can be really nasty on threads and I know I'd avoid some of the posters in here were I to know them in real life eg as colleauges
speckofglitter · 30/08/2017 22:21

IME it is that forums provide support that can be lacking in RL, so it is more likely that people who are non contact with their families, or who were bereaved young, or have difficult relations, will gravitate to them. Same with parents of children with ASD.

goose1964 · 30/08/2017 22:33

Not sure about classism but there's definitely an Income bias, there are some who just get by or not, and others on seriously high salaries who seem to think being poor is having takeaways rather than eating out

ZaraW · 31/08/2017 05:57

The Daily Mail is just awful intolerant, misogynist, anti immigrant. I chose not to read it. We have the most right wing press in Europe millions of people chose to read it but I won't engage with people with some of the vile comments they make about immigrants.

WipsGlitter · 31/08/2017 08:14

The daily mail angst on here is hilarious though. I'd say of the links to newspapers from here 99% are to the daily mail!!

Slarti · 01/09/2017 07:43

I definitely think mumsnet is more upper-middle-class liberal than daily mail. Remember all the millions of pro-Corbyn threads around the time of the GE!

Not sure I'd equate being middle class (or upper middle class, whatever that is) with being pro-Corbyn. Is there such a correlation?
