To be a little bit proud? Just a very little bit?

Wedding next July, much weight piled on in last year. (Bad nutrition, no exercise, working weird hours, but completely my fault all the same.)

Must lose some for the sake of my cardiovascular health and my pretty dress. And a little ashamed of being a fat doctor.

Downloaded MFP and bought a lunchbox. Packed a lunch last night and got half an hour of exercise in this morning.

I know it's only the start (have almost 50 lb to lose Blush) but AIBU to be just a little proud?

Even if I am BU, I'm still pleased.

Well done. Everyone has to make that first step. Sounds like you have a good plan.

Anon8604 · 28/08/2017 07:08

YANBU, a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, etc. Good luck with everything!

RefuseTheLies · 28/08/2017 07:08

YANBU. I have about the same to lose and I cannot for the life of me get my fat arse up off my couch.

Angelicinnocent · 28/08/2017 07:08

Be proud of every pound you lose. It's hard but worth it.

For what it's worth I lost 70lb in 10 months so it can be done.

Frouby · 28/08/2017 07:09

It always starts with a start! Be proud you have started.

I am starting again when the dcs are back at school. A lazy summer, an AI holiday and less of the stuff I usually do means I have put in 10lbs.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/08/2017 07:10

Well done. Everyone's got to start somewhere. It's taking that first step. Keep at it.

Chilver · 28/08/2017 07:11

Well done! I've always found you have to be mentally ready in order for weight loss to work. I have found my mental readiness, and with a similar amount to lose, am 6 weeks in and 1 stone down! So, you can do it too! Good luck!

SandysMam · 28/08/2017 07:13

Get a Fitbit, super motivating and helps to keep you on track. Also a nice water bottle to ensure you drink plenty (and eat less!). Well done, you should be proud. Just think about Christmas and if you lose 2lb per week until then, how great you will look.

a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step

Ooh I like that one. Think I will pinch it to get me motivated to lose weight. Going on holiday today tho, so diet starts next monday Grin

highinthesky · 28/08/2017 07:44

It's a good start.

2 years ago I was in a job I hated and desk bound (both unusual for me). As soon as I started moving again I felt so much better, not just physically but mentally. And far more motivated to continue.

Arm weights and sit ups helped on top of the walking. Just 15 mins every morning showed results, fast.

MissionItsPossible · 28/08/2017 07:45

YANBU at all you should be proud of yourself and stick with it Star

TheCatOfAthenry · 28/08/2017 07:47

Thank you lovely people!

I have a Fitbit but need to start wearing!

Well done! You sound like you are mentally in the right place too which is very important.
After faffing about for far too long, I'm starting today properly too. Did 30 mins exercise this morning.

Raver84 · 28/08/2017 07:56

Well done. I think once you treat exercise as essential part of day like eating and resting it's easy from then in. Mornibg is the perfect time to get it done and you will feel better all day for it.

Esspee · 28/08/2017 08:04

Good luck, be the best you can be. Flowers

ElfrideSwancourt · 28/08/2017 08:07

Well done- you can do it Smile

Honeybee79 · 28/08/2017 08:12

Yanbu. Keep it up. I have gained a bit this summer for various reasons and am now needing to shift it. I need to be back walking the 4 mile round trip school run!!

fullofhope03 · 28/08/2017 08:15

YADNBU. Well done OP! Now get that FitBit on and good luck!
A little tip for you - Drink a BIG glass of water before each meal and when you feel hungry (I'm rubbish with drinking water so now put slices of oranges, lemons, limes sometimes mint in a jug and keep in the fridge - really nice and encourages me to drink more).
Do let us know how you get on. Smile xxx

Gorgosparta · 28/08/2017 08:17

The first step is always a diffcult one to take.

Well done!

Jammydodger81 · 28/08/2017 08:22

Well done OP.

I lost 3 stone over 4 months a couple of years ago then last year put a stone back on, lost it and I can feel it creeping back on again.
Getting back on the school run will help shift some of it but I need to change long term.

My tips:
Exercise feels really hard in the beginning but I was soon doing the aerobics routine and not feeling like I was about to die

watch for the sneaky calories. I'd forget all about the leftover dds crisps I'd pinched for example

If you do have a bad day, don't give up and write it all off. It's actually better for resetting your metabolism as it will quickly get used to the new amount of calories you're putting in so a cheat day does not mean disaster.

Good luck Smile

FizzyGreenWater · 28/08/2017 08:35

WELL DONE!!!

Starting is the hardest bit!!!

Neutrogena · 28/08/2017 08:48

Massive difference between being proud and boasting on the internet.
You don't need to tell others to be proud about your great achievement.

The other thing with weight loss is that lots of people don't get that big in the first place through discipline. They may be unimpressed and indifferent.

vikingprincess81 · 28/08/2017 09:01

Fantastic!! You should be HUGELY proud and feel good about yourself!! Your Fitbit and MFP are your friends - let them challenge you and even when you're a bit tired get those 10k steps - it's a great feeling when the screen flashes green (when you reach all your goals) and you know you've taken steps (ha!) to be fitter and healthier.
There will be people who'll try to discourage you, or bring cakes into work, or say 'go on, have a cake' and that's fine, have a cake, but only when YOU want to. Grin
If it's not too patronising I'm proud of you, and I'm also on the weight loss/getting healthier journey Flowers
