To ask if you get diarrhoea before period?

I apologise if this is TMI for some!

Due on in a day or two and loose poo has arrived...anyone else get this beforehand?

I do have IBS and a little stressed which isn't helping, but I've noticed this in the past, too.
Oh and if that's not enough, the stress has triggered my fissure to join the party. Yum, fun 'bloody' times Wink

My Gyn said it's normal.

CaoNiMartacus · 27/08/2017 09:19

I get constipated a couple of days before my period. Then, on the day it arrives, the diarrhoea hits. "Period Poo", as it's sometimes referred to on MN, combined with a case of "Javelin Arse"!

giantpurplepeopleeater · 27/08/2017 09:20

Yes. I do.

MineKraftCheese · 27/08/2017 09:20

Day before and first day or so, manky smelly loose poos. And men think women are squeamish?! We can't be squeamish when faced with a stinking toilet filled with toxic shite and clotty blood.

HateSummer · 27/08/2017 09:21

Yes. It's normal. Its the most satisfying poop ever.

Screwinthetuna · 27/08/2017 09:21

'Javelin Arse,' I love that phrase! It's perfect for it! I tend to get that at the beginning of PMS, about a week before. I remember trying to describe it to someone and they thought I was crazy

otterlynutty · 27/08/2017 09:22

Yep, and for the first few days as well.

Bluntness100 · 27/08/2017 09:22

I get it thr first couple of days. I thought it was called the period shits.Grin

babymouse · 27/08/2017 09:23

The hormones that cause the uterus to empty can also effect the bowels. Very normal.

Gorgosparta · 27/08/2017 09:23

I get constipated for a few days then get it.

Knope2020 · 27/08/2017 09:23

Yep

GoGoGazelle · 27/08/2017 09:24

There seems to be a massive focus on wee, poo and periods this week on MN Hmm.
Sorry op if you're genuine, but I can barely open Active threads without reading about bodily fluids.

Gah81 · 27/08/2017 09:25

I do. Slight IBS here as well but definitely same as you in terms of timings. Glad to hear I am not alone!

sparechange · 27/08/2017 09:25

Yes, it's normal
It might mean you've got a tilted (not 'titled', autocorrect...!) uterus, and it is sitting on your bowel
The hormones and cramping which enable your period have the same effect on your bowel

Screwinthetuna · 27/08/2017 09:27

Sorry, Gazelle! Unfortunately genuine, just needed a little reassurance as I have the type of friends who say, 'no, that sounds worrying' and I've banned myself from googling health things!

OP posts:
booellesmum · 27/08/2017 09:28

Yep. I was going to say the hormones and cramping are responsible but it's already been said!

PoorYorick · 27/08/2017 09:29

It's normal. It's because your body produces a hormone to expel things from your body in order to get rid of the menstrual blood, and it's not substance selective, so it just gets rid of everything.

Moussemoose · 27/08/2017 09:30

Wow I'm normalGrin

Screwinthetuna thanks for the thread.

Screwinthetuna · 27/08/2017 09:30

Interesting, sparechange, I remember the sonographer finding it hard to get a good view of DD at 12 week scan because my uterus was tilted toward my back. Good to know!

OP posts:
SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 27/08/2017 09:31

Yep totally normal. As others have said, the theory is that the prostaglandins that cause the uterus to contract and push out the shedded lining also affect the intestines, causing them to contract, moving things through faster than normal and causing the soft stools.

Questioningeverything · 27/08/2017 09:32

Yup. I know I'm due when I get period poo

chickenowner · 27/08/2017 09:32

I do during my period, especially if I have bad cramps. What a joy...

Argeles · 27/08/2017 09:32

Yes I get diarrhoea too, and it lasts for 2 or 3 days into my period.

In addition, I get severe flu symptoms a few days before I'm due, and these also last for 1 or 2 days into my period.

And then we have to endure fucking tampon and sanitary pad adverts, in which women are scantily clad in tiny hot pants and skinny white jeans and are exercising and having the best time of their lives. Singing, dancing and looking so happy that they're almost on the verge of orgasm, because every woman knows that menstruating is such a party!

And don't get me started on the almost 'ceremonial' pouring of the blue liquid onto the sanitary towel - it fills me with an unbelievable rage, and not just when suffering with PMT. Either don't do it at all, or use a red liquid.

Glowerglass · 27/08/2017 09:34

Yup. Standard here.

RonSwansonsMoustache · 27/08/2017 09:35

Totally normal! Thoroughly unpleasant, but normal!
