McDonald's breakfast - WHATS THE BIG DEAL?

BLUESEAPARADISE · 26/08/2017 16:27

I had my first ever McDonald's breakfast today as I was very early for DS hospital appointment .. I tried a sausage and egg mcmuffin and pancake .. I was so excited to try it as I have heard so many good things about McDonald's breakfast but I personally didn't think it didn't taste very nice ... I was very disappointed and hungry!

Did I ask for the wrong thing? I was the only one in McDonald's at the time when I ordered and didn't want to seem seem like I didn't know what I was doing ( I was clueless!) ! So i "confidently" asked the first thing I could see on the menu! BlushBlush

They are bigged up because most people eat them as hangover food when basically anything greasy and hot is like the food of the Gods

I reckon it's this. The bacon rolls are okay, provided you remember to specify no brown sauce, but a McDonalds breakfast certainly wouldn't be my first choice.

(Bacon and cheese wraps from Greggs, on the other hand, are great)

Libitina · 26/08/2017 16:44

Breakfast wrap with ketchup and a large coffee will set you up for the day.

Katedotness1963 · 26/08/2017 16:47

American biscuits are a bit like a savoury scone, usually served with "gravy" a peppery, white sauce made with bacon grease, I believe? Much too tasty to be good for you!

This thread reminds me of the very early 1980s, when McD were pretty new to the UK, and definitely not open at breakfast time. DDad went to the USA for work for 6 months. DM arranged for us to all go out to see him for 2 months centred on Easter. DSis and I were primary school age at the time, and the deal with our headmistress was that we'd do an assembly about our extended trip when we got back. So - we went to NASA, on a oil rig training platform, to Mexico, to the Alamo. We told school all about this. At the end of assembly the HT asked us what was the best bit of the trip "Breakfast at McDonald's" we answered in unison havn't agreed on anything since. DM said she'd never been so embarrassed!

I found the mcmuffin very chewy and spent ages with one mouthful then realised I couldn't actually work out which bit was chewy which isn't reassuring! 😂

After a very very stressful and long hospital appointment ( nearly 3 hours!) with DS ( lots of tears for myself and DS) I came out of the hospital looking like a clown with make up pouring down my face I was so tempted to go back into McDonald's and drown my sorrows into the McDonald's chicken nugget share box and go into the nearest lay by and cry some more!

Luckily for everyone around me and myself they had a huge line and the drive through so I headed straight for the lay by chicken nugget less!

Think after today I may need to crack into the wine and have a long soak once DS is in bed!

@MsPassepartout I 100% disagree about the Greggs bacon and cheese wraps. They are utterly vile. Greggs bacon butties are luscious though.

BLUESEAPARADISE · 26/08/2017 16:51

@Katedotness1963 wow ! They sound interesting never seen anything like that in the U.K. Though!

Only ever had a mcmuffin twice - once to try them, and second time when I forgot how unpleasant they were the first time Grin

MsPassepartout · 26/08/2017 16:56

I've never tried a Greggs bacon buttie. But from the look of them, I'd be willing to bet that they're tastier than the McDonalds version.

Cailleach666 · 26/08/2017 16:58

You ate a sausage and egg mcmuffin and pancake and were still hungry.

Hats off to you.

BLUESEAPARADISE · 26/08/2017 16:59

@Cailleach666 I didn't eat them all! I took a couple of bites and put it in the bin because I didn't like them Blush

Has anyone else noticed the distinctive McDonald's smell if you eat their food in the car? It doesn't seem to matter what you order, the smell is always the same and it lingers for ages. I got into my friend's car a couple of weeks ago and I knew instantly that she'd been to McDonald's recently. Turned out she'd been through the drive through the day before and eaten her food at home, it had been in the car for maybe 10 minutes but still left a horrible chemically smell

MummaTwinkleToes · 26/08/2017 17:02

I love their sausage and egg bagels, but always take it home to eat as I drown it in ketchup so it's very messy.

Does anyone else remember McDonald's big breakfast burger? DH and I used to get off the train on the way to uni just to get one. Smile

Orangebird69 · 26/08/2017 17:02

Yabu. Sausage and egg mcmuffins are life. The hash browns should win awards.

Jaxhog · 26/08/2017 17:09

Go to Pret. They do a yummy ham, cheese and tomato croissant.

Allergictoironing · 26/08/2017 17:09

I used to love the old breakfast they did with the "sausage", muffin & butter, hash brown & scrambled egg that came in a polystyrene tray thing, but they suddenly stopped doing that a year or so ago Sad. If I had to work on a Saturday in the office, that would be my treat to take in with me (worked on my own if I went in at weekends).

highinthesky · 26/08/2017 17:14

How can you do this to your body?! To think there are children in your care Shock

See your GP for a referral to the self-harm clinic asap. And expect SS to knock on your door shortly.

user1497997754 · 26/08/2017 17:14

Every Sunday b4 dog walking me and hubby always have double sausage and egg Mcmuffin meal with extra hash browns and curry sauce. We always say its our scuffy Mcmuffy day lol....love it...

CockacidalManiac · 26/08/2017 17:15

Always looks grisly to me. I'd much rather go to a good 'greasy spoon' cafe and have a breakfast.

farfarawayfromhome · 26/08/2017 17:16

The halloumi muffin is divine! Has tappenade on it. At the weekends in winter we get these, hash browns and coffees and sit and eat them on the beach.

We are rarely hungover!

alltouchedout · 26/08/2017 17:17

Oh but the egg and cheese muffin is such a gorgeous, filthy pleasure. I wish they did breakfasts all day. Actually I don't as I'd have to then stop myself having one for tea every day

winglesspegasus · 26/08/2017 17:21

McDonald's breakfast - WHATS THE BIG DEAL?
problembottom · 26/08/2017 17:22

Amazing when you're hungover but definitely not at any other time.

happypoobum · 26/08/2017 17:22

The "Big Deal" is that they are the best hangover cure ever in the history of the world. This has been scientifically proven by the Institute for Science Information.

True Fact.

Peanutbuttercheese · 26/08/2017 17:22

American breakfast biscuits are amazing but I have never seen them served anywhere in the UK.
