To worry about Dh and the West Wing

GirlInterruptedOftenByKids · 26/08/2017 13:43

I am prepared to be told IABU in the following counts :

  1. Caring about fictional characters
  2. Talking about a TV show everyone else stopped caring about 20 years ago
  3. Reading Internet spoilers

Dh and I have been watching the West Wing for ages now and are nearing the end. I stumbled upon some spoilers that reveal that a character dies suddenly and in dramatic circumstances. I also found out that this decision came about because the actor died similarly suddenly. Dh is very emotionally attached to this character....AIBU to worry about how he's gonna take this??

Best series ever! DH and I finished our marathon a couple of months ago. We generally work through the whole lot from the beginning every two year or so. I agree with pp, if you can handle Mrs L's death, you can handle this one.

Am jealous that you have a great series as yet unwatched...

KindergartenKop · 26/08/2017 14:44

Drop some hints, maybe also adopt an old cat which is close to death to prepare him for it.

Seriously though, I'm jealous of you, I'd love to watch it anew again.

Pancakeflipper · 26/08/2017 14:44

I liked the Good Wife. This is more amazing. More people to care about. Like the GW there's that epsiode issues that gets sorted and the on-going story lines. And stuff that resurfaces in later episodes.
And you'll learn loads about American politics.

CarrieErbag · 26/08/2017 14:44

I think Mrscropley thought your dh had a job there Grin

Mrscropley · 26/08/2017 14:45

Assumed you lived in a mansion with a west wing!! Grin

CarrieErbag · 26/08/2017 14:46

Oh I got that wrong Grin

Pancakeflipper · 26/08/2017 14:48

MrsCopley Grin that's made me laugh.

CarrieErbag · 26/08/2017 14:48

SenecaFalls · 26/08/2017 14:50

Yeah, I thought it might be Ivanka posting or maybe Karen Pence. Smile

dancingke · 26/08/2017 14:52

I sobbed when they died in the show. I've watched it far too many times now and it still upsets me!

flutterworc · 26/08/2017 14:58

It's getting to that West Wingy time of year again. Am I the only one who feels like I should have a pre-screening advent calendar throughout September...?

TopBitchoftheWitches · 26/08/2017 15:02

I binged watched ww about two years ago, I am going to download them all again now.

When I grow up, I want to be CJ Clegg.

HelenaJustina · 26/08/2017 15:02

I'm glad it's not just us, the nights start drawing in and I hanker for the theme tune! Like a Christmassy episode when the season's right as well.

AlexanderHamilton · 26/08/2017 15:05

He'll be bereft when he gets to the end. Dh & I just didn't know what to do with ourselves.

I knew about the death because I knew the actor died but it's still shocking.

And there are lots & lots of us who still talk about the West Wing b

Josh's secret plan to fight inflation

"Are you telling me that not only did you invent a secret plan to fight inflation, but now you don't support it?"

Or when Josh & CJ meet the map people
"So you' re probably wondering what all this has to do with social equality."
"No, I' m wondering where France really is."

WW one of the best TV shows ever made.

dancingke · 26/08/2017 15:09

Loved the secret plan to fight inflation bir Grin

I have all the DVD cases in my west wing box set signed by Martin sheen, it's what I'd be going back into get if the house was in fire!

EATmum · 26/08/2017 15:09

Oh how I love the WW. It's still the best TV series ever. And the contrast with reality at the moment is just tragic. Bartlet for President.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 26/08/2017 15:13

I'd rather live in a world with Bartlet as president personally.

YABVVVVU to think everyone else stopped caring twenty years ago Shock.

orlantina · 26/08/2017 15:20

Go CJ

Thatssomecatchthatcatch22 · 26/08/2017 15:51

Learning that there are still so many Wingnuts around 20 years around later and so many on MN fills my heart with joy.

CbeebiesAddict · 26/08/2017 15:59

Love love love love TWW. Might start rewatching it tonight :) I was in pieces at all the deaths tbh.

ShowOfHands · 26/08/2017 16:02

I'm watching it for the first time atm. Am on ep 16 of series 1.

Should not have read this. Mrs L?! SadAnd wtf does Toby DO?

NataliaOsipova · 26/08/2017 16:06

WW is the best show ever. You may as well just pile in and watch it annually for the rest of time like me.

Yes. Yes. It never gets old. Bloody love it!

Whitney168 · 26/08/2017 16:08

Loved The Good Wife, but The West Wing is better - although some investment to get through.

Lots of them pop up in all sorts of TV shows, was watching something with Alison Janney in just the other day.

The real tragedy is we have Donald Trump in the Whitehouse instead of Josiah Bartlett

I mostly avoid the news and pretend he's not, and Martin Sheen is indeed President. Let Bartlet be Bartlet!

(My favourite ever bit is in 'Shibboleth', where Jed gives Charlie the family carving knife. Sniff.)

FanwankTheAbsurd · 26/08/2017 16:09

I binge watched it last summer, loved it. Was oddly more affected by MrsL dying than the other one.

I loved it, some lovely humorous moments and some really gut wrenching sobbing moments. 👍🏻
