neighbours car has been in my garden for 3 months

first ever thread but I wanted some opinions from the outside

neighbours came to me in early May to ask if they can use our drive for two weeks, they bought their DD a car for her birthday as a surprise.
fair enough I thought no problem

the car is still there.

we don't want to cause tension with the neighbours because we all have to live here

my DD is 14 month and has just started to toddle so would like front garden back to make safe ( weeding, gates) for her to play in and I can sit on the door step whenever she wabts to venture outside.

we managed to catch him last week and told him we want to do our garden for DD (can't use back garden, subsided and v unsafe) and asked if he had an idea of when he was planning to shift his car

two months!!! we were quite shocked because he was very matter of fact, no apology etc and dp said "it's kind of taking the piss" and neighbour shrugged it off. it's the end of October...

aibu to want my garden back before October so I can let my DD run loose in her own space whilst we may still have sunny weather/ light evenings??
part of me feels selfish because we don't drive so don't have a car therefore a "drive way" in the literal meaning isn't needed. but our garden IS the drive way.

I'm quite timid and have no idea how to go about this whole situation so I was hoping some mumsnet opinions might help me figure out what to doGrin

OP great newsGrin
Fuzzy how about some passive aggressive fairy lights strung around the carrier bags?GrinGrin

FuzzyCustard · 02/09/2017 20:54

I'd love to hear his reasons but he's insulted me once before about the hedge (accused me of "hacking" at it - just not true) and all the other neighbours find the whole family a bit odd. I am training the live bits of hedge over the bags so I won't be able to see them very soon. They are attached to his dead plant, so I can't really do much about it.
(Next bit of wind we get here they well mysteriously get blown away.)

FuzzyCustard · 02/09/2017 20:56

Yep....
Me: "Ooh are we decorating the hedge for Christmas? Early?"
NDN; Ignores me as usual.

No fun in that. :(

WhatchaMaCalllit · 02/09/2017 21:02

That is flipping fantastic news Pastry.

Fuzzy - get rid of the plastic bags. Pop them into a recycling bin somewhere but deny all knowledge of their disappearance. Suggest that someone must have been passing and their shopping bags split so they detached a few bags to help them carry their shopping home if questioned.

PastryOnMyMind · 02/09/2017 21:09

he sounds lovely, Fuzzy! why can't everybody just live next to nice people?

I like the fairy lights idea.
I also very much like the idea of swapping them to different carrier bags.
maybe he's been on Pinterest and has found a tutorial on "how to make your garden pretty by using plastic bag strips as bows" and thought you'd really, really like it

Or I could do a Twits on him and cut an inch off the bags each day and see when he notices.
Actually, although they are in his hedge, he would have to have come onto my drive to tie them on (this is going to need a diagram soon isn't it?) which is a whole OTHER ISSUE!

FuzzyCustard · 02/09/2017 21:11

All my other neighbours are wonderful. Just thought I'd better tell you that!

JudgeRulesNutterButter · 02/09/2017 21:12

Marked it so someone can come and remove it for him?

Boring but possible Grin

Trb17 · 02/09/2017 21:13

@FuzzyCustard that's bizarre!

I think we need a diagram and maybe try to swap them for alternative bags. Asda home delivery bags now come in various shades for different food types so that could work! You could have a frozen section Grin

Seriously though I'd cut them short just to piss him off but that's me Blush

PastryOnMyMind · 02/09/2017 21:15

or if you have a cat, possibly an attempt at keeping said cat out of his garden through the hedge?
maybe he's trying to grow the bags into full sized bags again via dead hedge

OP posts:
FuzzyCustard · 02/09/2017 21:28

We have two cats. He has one cat (who would like to live at our house, because he loves us better despite no encouragement!). And no gates on the drives so all cats can just walk round the hedgy bit! Also bags are about three feet off the ground so it would have to be one tall cat!
It is just bizarre.

PastryOnMyMind · 02/09/2017 21:51

Confused please, if you ever find out why, tell us! I'm quite intrigued. how strange!!!!!!

neighbours car has been in my garden for 3 months
TheMaddHugger · 03/09/2017 02:37

Fuzzy, Waht ??? !! (((((Hugs))))

Redsippycup · 03/09/2017 11:07

Excellent pastry - well done!

Fuzzy that is odd... The farmers round here tie red ribbons to trees in the hedges that they don't want to be cut when the hedges are trimmed so they can see them easily from the tractor. But a dead bush hardly needs protecting...

Maybe he thinks you killed it and it's home made crimescene tape?!

peekyboo · 03/09/2017 11:21

If there's birds in other parts of the hedge he could be thinking the cats (his and yours) might get in via the bald part and wriggle along for bird breakfast? So the bags are there to scare hedge-travel for cats.

BoneyBackJefferson · 03/09/2017 11:26

cool

motheroreily · 03/09/2017 12:30
