To think Jeremy Vine is becoming a bit of a dick

I used to quite like Jeremy Vine but just recently he seems to have fallen victim to foot in mouth disease. A couple of months ago he suggested that the perpetrator of what had been classed as a terrorist offence might actually just have been "a nutter". Clearly this kind of terminology is offensive to anyone suffering from a mental illness but as I'm not one of the professionally offended I just took it as an unfortunate choice of words. Then on Tuesday he did a feature about people who move out of their houses leaving a mess for the new occupants, saying that these are "middle class people" - obviously suggesting that this kind of behaviour was only to be expected from the working classes who clearly live like sewer rats. I didn't hear the whole programme in either case so don't know if anyone picked him up on it but am I alone in thinking the powers that be should be having a word?

He's always been a dick.

Sunshinegirls · 25/08/2017 17:26

He's always been a dick. I stopped listening to his drivel years ago

PovertyJetset · 25/08/2017 17:26

Yep- always been a dick.

Mushroomburger17 · 25/08/2017 17:27

It's so tabloid and sensational now.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 25/08/2017 17:28

Yeah sorry YABU to have only just noticed Grin

MrsMozart · 25/08/2017 17:28

Definitely a high scorer on the dickometer.

For an intelligent chap he aint half annoying / frustrating / mind numbingly boring.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 25/08/2017 17:29

I've always found him so condescending, he's an arse!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 25/08/2017 17:30

What's this "becoming"? He is a dick.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 25/08/2017 17:36

I think he does it as he tries to do both sides of the argument, but comes across as a monumental prick.

Soon as ken bruce finishes now in work, we stick Absolute 80s on.

toolonglurking · 25/08/2017 21:21

He is Jeremy Kyle for the middle class, it's kind of like listening to the Daily Mail.

Fucking awful.

Eolian · 25/08/2017 21:27

YABU, he's always been a dick. I cannot bear to listen to his faux-concerned, condescending bollocks for more than one second.

SenoritaViva · 25/08/2017 21:38

Always thought so, so can't comment recently. I think they get progressively worse on radio 2, then swing back to good. (I get why people hate chris Evans but somehow I love his chirpy positivity in the morning, I used to listen to The Today Programme but ignored the kids and got depressed). Jen Bruce ok. Loathe more than Vine, Steve Wright, then on the up with Jo Whiley as a highlight.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 25/08/2017 21:42

I can't stand the way he lets the callers or guests just shout over each other. I much prefer Vanessa Feltz doing the 12-2 slot.

ContinuingPrim · 25/08/2017 21:52

Known as Paxboy in this house. Wants to be the fearless, relentless serious journo but falls just short.

ShakeShakeTheMuffin · 25/08/2017 21:54

I like it when Paddy O'Connell covers for him (or anyone else really). JV is just annoying.

bananamonkey · 25/08/2017 21:56

Always been one, his show is like a live version of the Daily Mail

RhinestoneCowgirl · 25/08/2017 21:58

Married to a daily mail journalist. Nuff said...

treaclesoda · 25/08/2017 22:02

I've disliked him ever since I heard him pontificate on something local to me that was just him talking total balls. I was driving along at the time and I slammed on the breaks and pulled over and tried to ring the programme because I was so outraged, but I couldn't get through Grin

Hulder · 25/08/2017 22:03

He's always been a dick. Only listenable when Paddy O'Connell or Vanessa Feltz is covering for him - so when he isn't there.

Jeremy Kyle for the middle classes sums it up.

troodiedoo · 25/08/2017 22:04

He's gone full Partridge, as I'm fond of saying

Happened to switch on the other day and he was discussing the rise in random white paint on our streets Grin brilliant.

nutbrownhare15 · 25/08/2017 22:06

Who's he married to banana?

MissTify · 25/08/2017 22:07

I love Claudia winkleman. I listen to her every other Sunday night when I collect my daughter from her dads. She's lovely, lovely voice, interesting, soothing, nice to the people who phone in and music isn't too bad. I think she's great and wish she was the main presenter of strictly rather than the wooden, bland tess Daly.

WhatthehellisplanB · 25/08/2017 22:08

Yup. He's a big jobby.

Stopped listening to him several years ago cos couldnt stand his rudeness, interrupting his guests and callers and general Jeremy Kyle-style shit stirring. I liked when Vanessa Feltz covered for him.
Or anyone.

He's so out of touch, he could be a politician.

vichill · 25/08/2017 22:13

He ulis foul. Used to be bearable but the mask has definitely slipped in the last couple of years. He is privileged and entitled and has found it harder each year to hide his contempt for the general public. Vanessa is much better. She has genuine pathos and emotional intelligence.

jemsywemsy · 25/08/2017 22:16

I can't stand that show, I think they must hand pick the most obnoxious DM style callers they can get because so many of the views expressed on there are fucking horrendous. As an aside, isn't the lack of female voices on R2 really shit? I mean you can literally listen all day long and not hear a single female presenter, other than news and traffic, wtf is that about?
