Potential Business Idea

yellowdux · 25/08/2017 15:38

Ok, so my AIBU is, AIBU to think that this is a viable business idea that could tap into a massive market?

So the idea is this, you know how you get mobile dog groomers, well why isn't there the same for babies? Don't all jump on me at once - hear me out.

I'm not talking about for every bath / hair wash etc, but for special occasions, or routine maintenance (nails filled / hair cut etc).

Im not quite sure on the pricing, was thinking along the same lines as dog groomers, and similar to the biggest dog washing company, it could be franchised making plenty of pennies.

All staff would be trained / checked to the correct level, suitable products would be used or parents own if preferred.

What do people think? Would you use this service if available in your area?

Thanks!

Nit combing!! That is in fact a genius business idea. No harsh chemicals, just thorough combing.

PollyFlint · 25/08/2017 16:08

The thing about jokes is that for them to work, they have to be funny...

yellowdux · 25/08/2017 16:08

Millieja@ there was nothing creepy intended at all. I take offense at that. Im a new mum, its Friday afternoon, people need to lighten up.

I think that most of the people who would have the money available to throw at this kind of luxury thing already pay nannies/au pairs etc who do bathing, nail clipping etc. I think that most ordinary people with a spare £20ish per week to spend on a "service" would rather have their ironing done or a pizza delivered. Folk don't tend to see bathing babies as a "chore" iyswim.

SpareChangeDownTheSofa · 25/08/2017 16:09

CousinKrispy It sort of exists with vacuuming!

I wish there had been a mobile, SOS, hold my baby and make me a cuppa service.

If you were bored op, you should have gone the whole hog and made it like poodle grooming complete with vege dyes.

Millieja · 25/08/2017 16:09

yellowdux lots of people thought it was creepy. I wouldn't advise you to attempt a career in comedy.

yellowdux · 25/08/2017 16:09

what about the nit combing though....viable? Star

OP posts:
Ttbb · 25/08/2017 16:09

Why? It's not like there is any real grooming involved. All you do is bathe them, trim nails, and take them for th occasional haircut.

Pollaidh · 25/08/2017 16:09

I'd go for the nit combing. There are nit zapping places in nearest city, but none nearby. I hate combing nits out of hair - gives me a bad (worse) back.

Papafran · 25/08/2017 16:12

It wasn't funny though?

yellowdux · 25/08/2017 16:15

@Papafran it kinda was to me though.
and we have established

a) i have no future career in stand up
b) there is a potential nit zapping business opportunity
c)some of mumsnet have their heads too far up their own arses to be able to see something for what it is.

@yellowdux Hairforce are a company that already do nit treatment: They vacuum, heat treat, and comb remove nits. They can even come to your house for an appointment if you can't come to them. They also appear to have a franchise model in which you can set up the same business with their name and products.

Mummaofboys · 25/08/2017 16:16

I hope this is a joke! What a ridiculous idea, although saying that there's some strange people in this world that might go for it??

HerOtherHalf · 25/08/2017 16:17

Sorry, I don't care how many background checks you might have done. There is no way in hell I would let a stranger bath one of my kids.

Millieja · 25/08/2017 16:18

some of mumsnet have their heads too far up their own arses to be able to see something for what it is

Your attempt to be funny completely backfired and now you're just being rude. I'd give up now if I were you.

Allthebestnamesareused · 25/08/2017 16:19

Nail filing you mean - I spent ages working out how you fill nails for a baby. I thought they were having Shellac done!!

Why not go the whole hog and throw in Baby Botox? Grin

How much are you charging for this?

squeaver · 25/08/2017 16:19

these guys charge £100 a time for nit combing so there's definitely money in it.

Eleventybillionfucks · 25/08/2017 16:20

You should grow up OP. Especially as a new parent.

yellowdux · 25/08/2017 16:20

@Millieja - sorry if you find me rude.

Bizarre, absolutely bizarre Hmm

tigersbuddy · 25/08/2017 16:23

when mine were little I might have paid someone to come in and almost be a home help.....had I had the money. I was a young single mum with 2 under 2 studying for a degree.....someone to give them tea, and pop them to bed then clear up would have been a godsend so that I could have cracked on with coursework. Perhaps that might be a better angle?

StickThatInYourPipe · 25/08/2017 16:24

So you want me to hand my baby over to a stranger in a van?

Sorry that actually made me snort Grin

TroysMammy · 25/08/2017 16:24

Am I the only one that thought "she's having a laugh".

Turbinaria · 25/08/2017 16:26

I'd pay for someone to come and clean out the hamster/rabbit/Guinea pig hutches once a week it'll save me shouting at dcs to do it Grin
