Absolutely nothing to do with the colour of Harriet's skin then?Hmm

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Thursday that the Treasury Department could scrap plans finalized under President Barack Obama to replace President Andrew Jackson on the front of the $20 bill with Harriet Tubman.

cozietoesie · 31/08/2017 22:49

To be fair, almost every waking moment that Mnuchin has will be focussed on the debt ceiling right now. Wink

Snopes have made a full report on Obama not being President during Katrina

Amazing.

Anyway, have you watched this? (sorry if posted already)

Q: So, so many storms. Can we reduce them?
Patriot Barbie: I'm talking about victims and you're talking about climate change?

Erm... Yes, because so many storms... change in climate... maybe less victims? Maybe?

Cuomo really is losing his patience with bullshit.

Exclusive: Mueller Enlists the IRS for His Trump-Russia Investigation

Ooooh, this gives me the chills! (In a good way!)

In my 30 + years of Federal service the only govt agency that scared me shitless was the IRS. Not the CIA, not the FBI, not the Secret Service. Just the IRS. They have unbelievable power, unlimited data sources, their investigators are the ne plus ultra when it comes to forensic 'follow the money' trails, and they are not afraid of using any of them!

I NEVER cheat on my taxes. Not just because I'm an honest person, but because I know what the IRS can do to someone who plays fast and loose with their taxes.

If Mueller can manage to get the top brass of the IRS 'on side' then Scrotus is a dead duck.

From Pain's linked article:

It’s unclear what job Clarke will take in the administration, but one of the sources said he’s expected to join the White House. Clarke likely won’t be offered a Senate-confirmed role because his nomination would face opposition from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

Well, thank God for small favours. I don't think he'd be one to actually influence Scrotus. If he gets a WH job it will be a 'cheerleader' type position, one suitable for a sycophant. Maybe they'll give him the 'daily dossier of doom' job. You know, delivering that folder twice a day with 'positive articles' about Scrotus.

OuaisMaisBon · 01/09/2017 03:50

Old Marcus Aurelius spot on there. Thank you for the reminder.

This is from a modern commentator, posting on Facebook in response to Dan Rather's remarks on the ending of DACA.

Edwin Castro writes: "No president can do everything right. The job is just too big for any one person to handle. Trump's anger, his vindictiveness, his jealousy and sheer sense of malice only makes his predecessors look better. Trump is too small, too petty for the job. I'm not talking hand size, I'm talking about spirit. Heart. He has none. That's the tragedy of this. America has survived 2 World Wars, slavery, domestic terrorism, riots, Jim Crow, McCarthyism, the Great Depression, the Great Recession, 9/11, assassinations, a civil war, Vietnam and Watergate but America could be brought down by Trump.

"Nobody knew health care was so complicated."
"I know more about ISIS than the generals do, believe me."
"When you're a star, they let you do it. Grab em by the p*y, you can do anything."
"I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and not lose any votes."
“I know words. I have the best words.”

Trump is what happens when arrogance, incompetence, ignorance, bluster, and a lifelong lack of accountability, coupled with an endless series of enablers, gains power and we will all pay for it. A man like Donald Trump should never have made it this far. There is far more to being president than the title. A leader takes responsibility for their mistakes. A leader leads by example, not by meaningless, hollow words. A leader is someone who doesn't deceive, deflect and distract from the truth. A leader works to reduce people's suffering instead of intentionally inflicting it. A leader lifts people up instead of putting them down. A leader tries to unite people for the common good, rather than divide them with petty, hateful rhetoric. A leader has empathy and does not ridicule, disparage or humiliate others just to feed their own ego.

Donald Trump is not strong, noble, honest, honorable, humble, compassionate, generous, or caring. As a human being, he has none of these qualities and he never will. He isn’t capable of it. Donald Trump is an aberration. He may have the title but he should never be considered a leader. I disagreed with Obama on several issues but I genuinely believed he was trying to do good. He was a man. He was smart, compassionate, decent and utterly confident in himself and his abilities and it showed. I don't believe he did everything right. No politician can solve every problem they face in such a complex world. It’s impossible. I do think that he at least tried to leave the country better than he found it. You may disagree with that, that is entirely your right. Trump is the exact opposite and it is utterly demoralizing. I’m tired of feeling so tired."

orlantina · 01/09/2017 06:41

Thanks for the link on KAC - I've reposted it starting at the 'moment'

Way to shut down that conversation about climate change - attack the interviewer and then bring up the awful things about the flood that are happening instead - the fact that they've just had the conversation about that for the last 8 minutes. Classic way to shut down a conversation.

Interviewer - is climate change an issue?
Kelly Anne - I can't believe you've asked that. What about the poor pregnant women trapped in floods. Don't you care about them?
Interviewer - it's possible to be concerned about both.

*I might be paraphrasing.

(it's a similar tactic used on MN)

Roussette · 01/09/2017 07:02

Ouais that comment is so so good. Doesn't it sum up everything about the differences between Obama and Trump. I wish more waverers could read that and 'get it' with an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of their stomach that perhaps they need to think again about the support of DJT.

As far as Clarke... I read somewhere that he has a string of lawsuits against him and is massively unpopular which is why he eventually resigned. If he ends up on Trump's team, let's hope it's just as an ineffectual pathetic cheerleader.

Watching Patrio Barbie's interview, god that woman is unfuriating, and a master of manipulating answers to straightforward questions. How Cuomo keeps his cool I do not know. In that interview she has used Harvey relentlessly to try and popularise Trump and denigrate Dems.and yet kept saying Cuomo was putting politics before people. Her interview was just a series of soundbites.

Across interesting on the IRS. Love that IRS article.

And unlike charges like obstruction, where a favourable jury may give Trump the benefit of the doubt, tax and financial cases are heavily evidence-based and less subjective. 🙏

Yes, even somewhat dim, faux pas prone Dubbya sounded better in a private conversation with the public, recorded on a phone (I think). No prepared speech. No spin. Just his heart.
Not to mention his 9/11 response.
Even Katrina's, although Obama had used a time machine to be President at that time.
Here is "Obama" talking about racial discrimination anf poverty in disaster stricken New Orleans. And taking responsibility for the federal government actions. (And we all know how bad that response was)
