So here we are on day 3 of a Hobbit/Lord of the rings binge. When I say we, I mean the royal we! Not so darling husband and kids!
I can't take it anymore! I've done all the washing, washed the cars, sorted the garden, deep cleaned the entire house (avoiding the living room of course) paid the bills, sorted car insurance, cooked all the meals and cleaned up after them and they are still chasing the effing ring! F**k you Gollam!
On the upside the house is clean, apart from the living room which just looks like 7 people have slobbed out in it for 3 days!
Gonna burn the DVD player!
Someone give me a break! Please! Angry

Go out. Dinner for one. Cinema to see a film you'd like to see?

They didn't ask you to clean the house. They'd probably have quite liked it had you joined them. Try not to get too arsey with them.

They made their choice. Now make yours.

InfiniteCurve · 24/08/2017 19:23

Grin. GrinGrinGrin

We did that on holiday - it was great!
Could you not just slink around the house a bit going "Bagginses,I hates them...ssss"?
It might release some of the irritation.......

TheMasterNotMargarita · 24/08/2017 19:23

I think you are being a little precious about it. 💍💍💍💍💍💍💍

(Sorry, couldn't resist!(

VittysCardigan · 24/08/2017 19:33

Once watched this with DD2 & we were both shouting at the screen - just throw the goddamn ring Frodo

Meadowflowers · 25/08/2017 00:18

Ha ha Ha! I would have joined in but this is the second full binge. The first one was last summer. I watched them all and enjoyed them but this time as Vitty said I was just getting exasperated. At one point I bear crawled into the room Gollam style put my finger through dh engagement ring which he wears around his neck and started growling "my precious" in a gollam voice, much to the amusement of the whole family!

Oh you have my sympathy, Op! FlowersGinCake
I remember when the first film came out, I was delighted, as I had tried to read the books and failed. Trotted off to the cinema with DH and DC's and was asleep after the first forty minutes. Didn't bother with the others, just tolerated them when they were on the TV years later. Yawn!!

AnnieAnoniMouse · 25/08/2017 00:45

Book a hotel & go and enjoy the peace 😊 It's the very least you deserve after doing all that and having to put up with all the drivel!

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/08/2017 00:47

DH and I have a phrase when someone is doing something like this. "Magic of Childhood". When I'm knee deep in glitter, covered in paint or having water balloons thrown at my head? "Magic of Childhood".

Just keep saying that to yourself.

TheFrendo · 25/08/2017 00:47

To cut a long story short, we threw the ring in the fire.

Willow2017 · 25/08/2017 00:49

Sorry but YABVU.

LOTR is awesome. We have watched them and The Hobbit so many times DS2 nearly knows them off by heart! (and he does a great Gollum impression, Andy Serkis watch out Smile )

ReanimatedSGB · 25/08/2017 00:55

Oh I feel your pain. Fucking hate Tolkien myself. Got made to watch the first one at a friend's house. I kept going to the loo to make the time pass quicker and they kept saying, oh we'll pause it. NO PLEASE DON'T. I'm not going to miss ANYTHING because the entire fucking film consists of people telling each other what's about to happen, then telling each other that it's happening, then telling each other what just happened. And even the amusement of spotting all the prog band names and references (yes, am old enough to remember all my Led Zep/Marillion etc) palls after a while.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 25/08/2017 00:56

You missed seeing Orlando Bloom in the one and only role in which he was shaggable

Fairenuff · 25/08/2017 00:58

Oh dear. I wonder what I've been doing with my time.

ChipsForSupper · 25/08/2017 01:18

I feel your pain - my ex was obsessed with these films and I had to watch them all at the cinema - and they are each about 4 hours long and parts of it are in elvish and the ring gets heavier and heavier and heavier........

I think it's a common trope in fantasy, though. I did watch Game of Thrones a while back and Winter was always coming...........and coming........and coming.....they never stopped going on about it! Oh just bloody get to Winter and put a coat on or something, then!

I don't watch it anymore. Perhaps Winter is there by now.

Beeziekn33ze · 25/08/2017 23:27

I saw the first with DD and SiL. She said the been bored rigid, looked at us to see if we were and couldn't believe we were both transfixed. She said she'd rather have cleaned out the fridge. A year later she did exactly tha while I went with SiL. By the third film their eldest was old enough to go with SiL, I wasn't at their house and DD probably cleaned the fridge again. I've twice watched the first of The Hobbit and wandered off long before the end! I've read all the books (only once each!) and consider myself a Tolkien fan!
Breakfast - absolutely! Though it's still the thinking woman's bit of rough, Sean Bean, for me!

Beeziekn33ze · 25/08/2017 23:30

Did anyone else hear the Radio 4 programme about Tolkien in love last Saturday? I thought it was sweet!

elQuintoConyo · 25/08/2017 23:35

Bored of the Rings?

I have just spent a week away and we saw 1 Harry Potter film every night. Kill me now!

I think i sat through a LOTR film at a friend's house but couldn't tell you which one it was. Gollum was in it... Or was it Voldemort?

I did see a fabulous cartoon once: 'Snape kills Trinity with Rosebud' Grin

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/08/2017 23:39

If Gandalf had been a woman, I wonder if he would have just gone eagle, carried the ring to Mount Doom and dropped it into the lava. All done in time for tea.

CockacidalManiac · 25/08/2017 23:51

If Gandalf had been a woman, I wonder if he would have just gone eagle, carried the ring to Mount Doom and dropped it into the lava. All done in time for tea.

Or, judging by a recent post, he'd be on here asking 'AIBU that Sauron gave me this cheap ring despite him being a Dark Lord and earning six figures*

YouTheCat · 25/08/2017 23:56

We did our Lotr/Hobbit binge a few weeks ago. It didn't take 3 days though.

One day for Hobbitses and the next for Lotr. Okay if you wish to watch all of the extras I have watched every single one it might spread to 3 days.

I am mid Harry Potter binge. Grin

Zvandelle · 25/08/2017 23:56

Hahahaha Cock!!! YABVVU!!!!

ReanimatedSGB · 26/08/2017 01:09

Overall, more people need to realise that: whatever fucking load of old wank you happen to be into, other people are allowed not to like it. And if you want to watch some load of old wank, other people in the room are allowed to at least read a book, cut their toenails, do their knitting or whatever without being constantly pestered to 'No watch/listen to this bit, it's really good.' It fucking isn't. It's just as boring as the rest of it.

ReanimatedSGB · 26/08/2017 01:13

Last night, for instance, left the room because the rest of the family were watching some cooking programme. It's fine that they want to watch it. I wish them unmitigated delight in looking at a load of people doing cookery. I managed a moment or two of interest over one of the participants being someone whose parents I knew. And then it got utterly tedious (what the FUCK is interesting about watching someone do cooking?) so I left them to enjoy it and went and did something else.

Willow2017 · 26/08/2017 18:05

ReanimatedSGB

Who rattled your cage? Projecting much? You must be a job to live with if thats the way you talk about other peoples interests!

Nobody said anyone had to watch something they didnt like its just a bit of lighthearted fun, some like LOTR some dont its not life or death!

Meadowflowers · 26/08/2017 20:39

Ha ha ha. I escaped to work!!!! Now I think I'll have my own binge next week of Harry Potter. Much more my thing!
