Myself and my husband disagree on ds bedtime. I think 8 is perfect for him as he is 5 and I mean 8 with pjs on and story read. DH thinks that's too early as he only gets home from work at 7 but then complains that it's nearly 10 every night before he gets to sit down after been in work all day. Ds wakes at 6 every morning and often falls asleep during the day which DH doesn't see. I also notice ds behaviour is worse when he is tired which is why I feel he needs his sleep. I'm just looking to see what other parents think.

DS 16momths goes to sleep between 8.30-9 and wakes up between 6 and 7.30. He usually has one nap a day, occasionally he has two.

Paddingtonthebear · 21/08/2017 22:42

Mine is 4yrs old, nearly 5 and goes up to bed at 7pm, usually straight asleep within 5-10 mins. She's had this bedtime since she was about 6 months old Grin. She is always ready for bed and sleeps about 11.5-12 hours a night. She starts school soon and I'm not planning on changing her bed time any time soon, it might even get earlier!

Llanali · 21/08/2017 22:48

3 YO, during term time, winter hours (daylight saving) 7pm
Summer hours 7.30pm.
Holidays- 8.30/9pm- we often ride in the evenings.

She wakes around 8am during term time, during holidays with later bedtimes then about 8.30/9am.

She gets 12/13 hours sleep.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 21/08/2017 22:53

It was 7.30/8 for all of mine until they hit their teens, then it was 9 during school terms whenever I got fed up with them in the holidays- I was a firm believer in having at least a couple of hours of adult only time each night! Now they're older I don't get that half as much as I'd like.

Wishiwasonholiday1 · 21/08/2017 22:53

5 yr old asleep by 7pm every night, 10 month old asleep by 6:15pm, she gets cross if she's not in her bath by 6pm!

ThorsMistress · 21/08/2017 23:10

DS 5 goes to bed at 6:30 and is asleep by 7:00.
He's like his mum and needs lots of sleep Grin

Mittens1969 · 21/08/2017 23:39

DDs 8 and 5, on holiday now so they haven't been in bed before 9 and they haven't been asleep before 9:30. They both sleep very deeply once they have settled at least.

Term-time we do try to get them to bed by 9 at the latest but DD1 often takes a long time to get to sleep.

Geekmama · 21/08/2017 23:48

My DS 7 goes to bed at 7pm and 6pm on a Sunday but he has to get up at 6am for school. During the holidays we're a little bit more flexible.

HiJenny35 · 22/08/2017 00:33

4 year old 8:45 into bed, book, asleep at 9:15ish
8 month old 11pm

wildbhoysmama · 22/08/2017 00:47

5 year old - 730pm definitely asleep by 8pm latest.
11 year old - 9pm- lights out 915pm
13 year old 930pm, lights out by himself usually straight away but never later than 10 ( unless hols or Sat night movie).

oldlaundbooth · 22/08/2017 00:55

DS is 3.5 and is in bed by 7.30/8pm. Last week we were on holiday and he was in bed by 9pm,which actually meant a few lie ins!

DD is only 7 months and usually asleep by 7pm.

December11 · 22/08/2017 01:01

My DD is 8, during school time she goes up to bed for 8:30, lights out by 9. She is up about 745. If she goes to sleep later it impacts her and she is grumpy.

During holidays we don't follow a set routing for sleep.

deadringer · 22/08/2017 01:42

My 8 year old is usually in bed by 9 on a school night, during the holidays there's no set routine, tonight she didn't go til about 10.30.

GreenHillsRolling · 22/08/2017 01:54

Gosh some of these bedtimes are really early. Do they wake early?

DS is 2. Usually in bed by 8pm then story then can take a while to fall asleep. He usually wakes up between 7:30am and 8:00am which works well for us. He has a nap at lunchtime too.

Mammyloveswine · 22/08/2017 06:52

My 19 month old is in bed about 6/6:30 and up about 7. My husband gets up with him during school holidays/weekends as he works late (usually until 8). My child needs his sleep and his routine, it's not his fault daddy is working past his bedtime!

Paddingtonthebear · 22/08/2017 11:44

greenhills

7pm bedtime for my 4yr old, nearly 5yr old. She is awake between 6.30-7am. Would prefer more of a lie in yes but we get our evenings to ourselves which we appreciate, and she thrives on a bedtime routine and getting plenty of sleep. We will need to be out of the house at 8.15am when she starts school next month so sleeping in until 7.30/8am wouldn't work for us now anyway.

Kids are all different and family set ups are all different. DD's dad is home by 6pm every night so has time with her before she goes to bed. I know same-age kids who have vastly different bed times to our DD. Each to their own. I do think behaviour is a good indicator of whether a child has a good sleep routine. The most challenging kids I know are all quite difficult to get to bed and don't tend to sleep very well.

heron98 · 22/08/2017 11:51

I'm amazed at all the pre-7pm bedtimes. Anything starting with 6 is still the afternoon!

Oysterbabe · 22/08/2017 12:11

It wouldn't suit my little one either. She'll sleep 11 hours irrespective of when she goes to bed so 8-8:30 is perfect for us. They're all very different when it comes to sleep preferences and requirements.

Believeitornot · 22/08/2017 12:21

Our dcs have always been early risers so early bedtimes naturally followed. Also early bedtime gives me and dh a bit more evening time. We have to get up early for work anyway so it's fine for us.

Although we are currently off work and the dcs woke at 8am which was a great lie in for us Grin

scrabble1 · 22/08/2017 12:32

Age 11 goes to bed at 8.00,asleep by 8.30

Windbeneathmybingowings · 22/08/2017 12:33

I had a similar issue with DH and ILs. They had no bedtime routine at all, my niece and nephew often go to bed at 11pm or even on the sofa at 11pm! When we had our DS who is the same age as them, DH thought it was perfectly normal to have kids up and about in the middle of the night or out at restaurants/families houses on the other side of London/coming home from shopping at 11pm.

At 10 months I just started my routine and to hell with them. DS had dinner, bath and bed by 6.30pm and was so so so much happier. All the other kids have followed the same and we have never had any sleep problems. DS1 napped for 2hrs a day until he was 3 and DS2 is following the same pattern. It's lovely to get that break in the day and know exactly what time they are going to bed.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 22/08/2017 12:35

Additionally not all children make the hours back if they miss a bed time. All mine have woken at 6am-7am regardless of when they went to bed.

usernotfound0000 · 22/08/2017 12:43

2.5, in bed and story at 7, usually asleep before 7.30pm.

Gottagetmoving · 22/08/2017 12:50

When my son was 5 he was in bed by 7. At 8 he was in bed and asleep by 8 pm.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 22/08/2017 13:01

4 and 6, around 8-9 pm tends to be finishing dinner, couple of short CBeebies programmes, pajamas, story/ reading. Lights are usually off around 9 but I can can hear them rumbling around a little longer. DS1 likes to do a bit of drawing by the doorway for the landing light. DS2 likes to pay visits downstairs and is difficult to switch off for the night.

They tend to rise between 7:30 to 8. They need to be up by 8 for school.

We seem to naturally be night owls compared to average. When I was working, we weren't in until 6. DH is rarely in before 7 so we eat later than most so we can eat together. They are usually bright and alert and rarely need to nap.
