Myself and my husband disagree on ds bedtime. I think 8 is perfect for him as he is 5 and I mean 8 with pjs on and story read. DH thinks that's too early as he only gets home from work at 7 but then complains that it's nearly 10 every night before he gets to sit down after been in work all day. Ds wakes at 6 every morning and often falls asleep during the day which DH doesn't see. I also notice ds behaviour is worse when he is tired which is why I feel he needs his sleep. I'm just looking to see what other parents think.

7 year old 8pm 5 year old 7.30 and 3 year old 7. 8 month old aim for 7 but depends on nap times. 5 and 3 year old get up at 7ish 7 year old gets up between 5 and 6.
School holidays I am more relaxed but they get grumpy when tired so not every night.

MrsPayneworkingmummy · 21/08/2017 20:24

Our daughter is 5. On a school night, we try to start bath, pyjamas etc at 6.30, beforehand putting her to bed and reading two stories. I usually lie with her until she's asleep (doesn't take long after stories) so the whole process takes until about 8. During the school hols (hubby and me both teach), we are much more flexible and aim to get her into bed for 9. It really depends what we've been doing through - if we're abroad, she'll come with us for evening meals and drinks so may not get to bed until 9.30/10, but if we are at home and have had a busy day out, It'll be earlier.

Treesinbloom · 21/08/2017 20:25

Mine are 3 and nearly 6.

Asleep between 8 and 8.30.

Wake between 6 and 6.30

No naps

Have tried many variations but nothing changes. They just don't need a lot of sleepsob

notanotherNC · 21/08/2017 20:25

We aren't strict at all with bedtime. My 3 year old just went to sleep, but my 5 year old is still reading. She could be up a while yet.

Lostmymarbles1985 · 21/08/2017 20:26

My husband also gets home late but he prefers happy kids not tired ones!! He will always go give them a kiss and a hug when he gets in and has a chat with them if they are still awake.

Oysterbabe · 21/08/2017 20:27

DD is 20 month. Bed at about 8:30 and up at 7:30.

Chilver · 21/08/2017 20:27

DD is 5.5yo. Bedtime 7.30pm, occassionlly slightly later. Wakes at 7.30am. She's a sleeper and needs it!

MummaGiles · 21/08/2017 20:28

DS is 2.5 and he doesn't fall asleep until about 8, but I think he's unusual.

BitchQueen90 · 21/08/2017 20:30

DS age 4. Into bed at 7pm, then I read him a story and he's asleep by around 7.30pm. He wakes up between 6am-7am.

bullyingadvice2017 · 21/08/2017 20:30

5 yr old 7 pm in bed to sleep. 10 year old to be upstairs by 8 with light off by 830. On a school night.

Bedtime, the best time of the day!

Gorja · 21/08/2017 20:38

7 & 9 years olds in bed by 9pm.
12 & 13 year olds up to bedrooms at ten have no idea what time they go to sleep as I go to bed at same time (or an hour earlier if it's been a bad day at work)
But the deal is they have to get up for school without too much drama otherwise I will get stricter.
Holidays have no idea they are all still up when I go to bed.

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 21/08/2017 20:40

I start bathtime & bedtime routine at about 5.30. DD2 who is 2 goes to bed straight afterwards, at about 6-6.30ish. She doesn't really nap though.

DD1 who is just 6 comes back down after the bath and has a warm drink and some reading / cuddles / TV after DD2 is in bed. She goes to bed about 7ish.

They are both up at about 7am.

Angelicinnocent · 21/08/2017 20:43

DS 18 whenever. Dd 15 school nights in bed at 10, no electronics. Sleeps whenever. Holidays whenever but she always gets up for her job.

PotteringAlong · 21/08/2017 20:43

6 month old does bath at 6, fed 6.15 and usually in cot and asleep by 6.45.

5 and (nearly) 3 year old - bath at 6.30. 3 year old straight to bed and asleep by 7. 5 year old up at 7 when 3 year old is aslee (they share a room) and asleep by 7.15.

If I'm doing bedtime by myself I bung them all in the bath together at 6.15, read the story to the 3 year old and feed the baby at the same time, let the 5 year old sit in the spare bed with the iPad and then do his bedtime when they're asleep.

Either way, all 3 in bed and snoring by 7.15 (hopefully!)

Chasingsquirrels · 21/08/2017 20:45

Generally.
14yo - around 11pm.
11yo - around 10pm.

OnlyGodKnowsWhy · 21/08/2017 20:45

7 and 8yo bed for 9pm. 11 and 12yo bed for 10pm. Up at 7.30am.

SittingAround1 · 21/08/2017 20:46

We have practically the same problem-
so watching with interest.
Although luckily DC wakes up later in the morning.

How on earth do people do 6pm bedtimes?!

IDoDaChaCha · 21/08/2017 20:47

DD is nearly 2 and goes to bed at 7pm.

Solasum · 21/08/2017 20:48

Wow, some of your children sleep for ever!

My DS is rising four and bedtime is 7.30-8. We read lots of stories and chat and he generally doesn't fall asleep until 8.30. He wakes 7-7.30. He sometimes naps at nursery.

We don't get home until 5.30 and then have to cook and eat. If he went to bed at 6 I wouldn't see him at all.

early30smum · 21/08/2017 20:48

I have an 8 year old and a nearly 5 year old (who starts school in sept but has been at full time school nursery for a year)
During term time:

Little one: any time between 6.15 and 7.30
Depending on how tired he is/what we have been doing. Usual is 7.00 though.

8 year old: a good night is in bed by 9.00. A bad night is 10.30/11. She just doesn't need much sleep. This term though I'm going to really try and get her upstairs by 8.30. I need my evenings back.

Holidays are completely different. I try and get the younger one to bed by 8.30 most nights with a couple of nights a week earlier or later. Just depends!

stoplickingthetelly · 21/08/2017 20:50

Mine are almost 2 and almost 5. They both go to bed at 7pm then stories for 10 mins. They are both totally ready for bed at this time. It's never later than 7:30 under normal circumstances.

ButtonLoon · 21/08/2017 20:53

I dream of some of those early bedtimes!

6yo still awake at nearly 9 tonight and that's not unusual - will sleep until 7.

WhooooAmI24601 · 21/08/2017 20:53

DS1 is 11 and DS2 is 6. They're both in bed asleep now because they've squabbled today. They're early wakers so tend to be up and dressed by 6am so if they have too many late nights on the trot they're devilchildren and I have to open wine by 3pm. During school holidays we all relax the rules and just chuck them into bed for an early night once a week. DS1 is getting better at moderating his own bedtimes though, so will announce he's tired and take himself off to bed.

During term time I tend to get DS2 into bed by 8pm. DS1 goes up around the same time and reads and potters til about 9.30/10pm.

limon · 21/08/2017 20:55

She is 5 and goes up for her bath at 7.15 and in bed by 8. I get back from work at 5pm. I totally understand your husbands perspective i would hate to only have half an gour or so with dd after work.

Popsicle434544 · 21/08/2017 20:58

My 2yo 6.30pm
8yo 7.30
We r up for 7am
