Myself and my husband disagree on ds bedtime. I think 8 is perfect for him as he is 5 and I mean 8 with pjs on and story read. DH thinks that's too early as he only gets home from work at 7 but then complains that it's nearly 10 every night before he gets to sit down after been in work all day. Ds wakes at 6 every morning and often falls asleep during the day which DH doesn't see. I also notice ds behaviour is worse when he is tired which is why I feel he needs his sleep. I'm just looking to see what other parents think.

I have a 4 year old and a 6 year old. Bathtime routine usually starts around 6.30 and they're both in bed and asleep by around 7.30/8.00pm. Unless it's tonight when they are both still ducking around, though the 4 year old has been sick today so a bit unsettled.

NicolasFlamel · 21/08/2017 21:02

2 and nearly 5 year old go up for bath about 6.15/30 and are asleep around 7-7.30
They're get up early and definitely need the early bed time. Their dad sometimes isn't home until I'm running the bath but then he'll just takeover bath and story time to get time in with them and then he's off on weekends. He's happy with the routine, he knows what they're like when we've tried to keep them up later.

2.8yo 6.30 bed, asleep by 7. Up at 6ish. No naps.
7yo 7.30 bed, lights out 8.00. Up at 7ish.

applespearsbears · 21/08/2017 21:02

DC is 6 and it's lights out at 7.30pm, has been same for a couple of years. Up at 7 am with no naps.

LockedOutOfMN · 21/08/2017 21:02

DS has just turned 6 and she has to be in her room at 9.30pm for a story with lights out ASAP afterwards (10pm max.) In holidays we're a bit more relaxed. She has to be up by 7.15am for school but tends to wake up of her own accord about 20 minutes before that.

Jellycatspyjamas · 21/08/2017 21:02

Meant to say, they both are up somewhere between 6.30 and 7.00.

SnowiestMountain · 21/08/2017 21:03

4 & 6, lights out for 8, sometimes little bit later in the holidays but not on a school night

iamyourequal · 21/08/2017 21:03

wendz86 · 21/08/2017 21:13

2 year old goes to bed at 7 for stories and then goes to sleep. 6 year old has stories around 8 when youngest is asleep and then goes to sleep.

Troika · 21/08/2017 21:21

Karma some children wake up early no matter what time they go to bed! Please don't assume their early waking is down to their bedtime

alwaysontimeneverlate · 21/08/2017 21:22

3ur old 6.30pm to bed, she's up at 5am regardless of what time she goes to bed

9yr old 8pm to bed 8.30 lights out up at 7 latest.

NorthumbrianGirl · 21/08/2017 21:28

My 4 and 6 year olds head upstairs between 6.30 and 7, and have lights off before 8.

Witsender · 21/08/2017 21:36

7 and 5 yr old here.

Both head up around 1945 for books, with lights out around 2030.

steff13 · 21/08/2017 21:39

Our daughter is 6. She gets up at 8am. It's recommended she sleep 9-11 hours, can so she goes to bed 930-10. That gives her 10-10.5 hours.

Ellieboolou27 · 21/08/2017 21:39

2 and 5yo both at 7pm, 5yo 7.30-8.30 in holidays.
karma my kids wake between 6-7am regardless of what time they go to bed, if I keep them up till 9 or later so they can spend time with dad, mum is the one who deals with miserable overtired kids the next day.

Stinkbomb · 21/08/2017 21:39

DD4 between 7.30-8pm generally, occasionally earlier if she's tired (she will say when she's ready), sometimes later at a weekend or on holiday.
She normally wakes 6.30-7, but sometimes around 5.30, sometimes 8 - generally the earlier to bed, the later she wakes but that doesn't necessarily always follow.

tigercub50 · 21/08/2017 21:51

DD8 goes between 8.30 & 9

TieGrr · 21/08/2017 21:55

DD is 6 and starts getting ready for bed between 8 and 8.30. Lights out by 9/9.15 and she usually falls asleep straight away. When she's back in school, will bring that forward 30 minutes or so and try to get lights out by 8.30/8.45.

She's awake between 6.30 and 7.30 every morning.

d270r0 · 21/08/2017 22:22

My 6 year old has lights out at 8.00 and my 3 year old at 7.30. When school starts again I will change lights out for 6 year old back to 7.30 as well.

I'd say that your 5 year old should not need naps in the day, that implies he is not getting enough sleep at night and he is going to bed too late.
