To think they should just ban nuts on all flights

Just reading this and it's heartbreaking, seems like such a simple change to ban nuts on all flights to help protect people.

I've heard several people on mn saying they've been on flights where they were banned, seams to make sense as nut allergies are so widespread to just ban all together imo.

I dont think there has ever been a fatal reaction on a plane that was not caused by ingestion.

Breathing in the dust IS a form of ingestion. How is that so hard to understand?!

plank · 21/08/2017 19:53

Of course they should be banned. What's the big deal it's a few hours of your life where you can't eat peanuts which could save someone's life! I am allergic, the airline know and make the announcement but I am aware I'm relying on people compliance.

I had an a terrible reaction which ended in me being hospitalised last year on a huge spice girls reunion meal thing / 40th. They knew about allergy, just pure ignorance x

hedgebitch · 21/08/2017 19:54

Say a child really loves nuts. Not allowed to have peanut butter on toast before school, not allowed to take any peanut containing product to school, not allowed to have peanut products in the evening in case traces remain. So basically never allowed to eat nuts except maybe on a Saturday. Say 398 kids in a school love nuts, but 2 kids are allergic - this means none of the other 398 kids are allowed to eat something they absolutely love. How is this fair on the 398

I'm sorry, this has me simultaneously creased up laughing and completely speechless. Oh woe! A child might only be able to eat a food they enjoy once a week and all through the school holidays! Not to mention that I have never heard of peanuts being banned on a school night in case some traces survive until the next day.

Won't someone think of the NUT-LOVING CHILDREN.

Oh Sally, you're just a little japester, aren't you, with your clever points about equality 🙄

Peanuts on planes should be banned to reduce risk in an easy way. Anyone who bitches about having to go without on their flight is an idiot.

sunglassally · 21/08/2017 20:03

Sparky.

I am all in favour of a nut ban on planes.

I dislike the drama of an annnouncement by the cabin crew about an unkown person/child who can dictate the terms for everyone.

Better to ban nuts altogether and who will care really?

EvansOvalPies · 21/08/2017 20:03

SunglassSally - So, presumably you did read the actual Opening Post from the Opening Poster regarding 'Banning Nuts from Flights'. Yet you have taken it to another level entirely. Your own agenda is awkward people in all walks of life who happen to have an allergy. But you would still agree with banning nuts on a plane. So why the diversion?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 21/08/2017 20:05

Lucky the thread is about fatel allergies then, and not your mates eating habits eh sally

EvansOvalPies · 21/08/2017 20:05

Nuts on a restaurant menu are an entirely different thing from nuts in a plane.

(Rarely do I feel I have a bang head on table moment, but I swear, this is one of then). GF

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 21/08/2017 20:05

Cross post Smile

sunglassally · 21/08/2017 20:06

Have I hit a nerve or what?

Just follow the thread, these things evolve and discussion/debate moves on.

4691IrradiatedHaggis · 21/08/2017 20:08

But apart from fatal allergies, sorry, I think it is attention seeking.

What about people who come out in lumps, or have eyes that close shut, or lips that swell up on coming into contact with the food?
Not life threatening, but still nothing LIKE attention seeking and you're just showing with each post that you do not have a clue about allergies and are woefully ignorant.

Bruffin

Fae’s breathing deteriorated, her tongue was swollen and her lips were blistered.

'For a few moments Fae stopped breathing. Her airway was compromised and she went unconscious.’

Iis this 4 year olds experience 'bad enough' for you? This was caused by someone defying the instruction from flight staff 3 times not to eat peanuts on the plane opening a packet of peanuts 4 rows away

Willow2017 · 21/08/2017 20:09

Oops bold fail!

EvansOvalPies · 21/08/2017 20:09

No, sweetcheeks - you just need to understand what you are reading, and what you are writing in reply.
That's all. Smile

Yep, surely no one can be that utterly thick, it has to be a wind up.

EvansOvalPies · 21/08/2017 20:14

Thank you, IradiatedHaggis - not just me then. Off to open my wine. Smile

4691IrradiatedHaggis · 21/08/2017 20:15

But next time you are in a restaurant have a look at the menu.

WTAF has that got to do with banning nuts on a plane which is what the discussion is about?!
Jeez.

I dislike the drama of an annnouncement by the cabin crew about an unkown person/child who can dictate the terms for everyone.

Presumably you mean the 4 year old further up the thread who had an allergic reaction and stopped breathing- she's an unknown to you so therefore irrelevant?
Nasty, nasty specimen.

kittybiscuits · 21/08/2017 20:15

I'm starting to recognise the posting style, in spite of the different user names.

I don't like that. But then again I actually make sure I go for a night out to eat with those who do not have any food issues. Just me I suppose. And am lucky in that regard.

And so is anyone who doesn't have to eat with a goady fucker like you.

bruffin · 21/08/2017 20:16

I know about that case bit experts disbuted the cause
.

Andrewofgg · 21/08/2017 20:19

It can certainly be difficult to organise an office bash when someone cannot be near nuts being eaten. But then my favourite Indian restaurant (near the office) is in the basement of a building without a lift and that has sometimes restricted us too.

EvansOvalPies · 21/08/2017 20:24

Probably far easier for emergency services to reach the patient though, Eh, Andrew? Not bloody 30,00 feet in the sky, when no-one can actually get there.

EvansOvalPies · 21/08/2017 20:26

Has this now become a joke thread? How soon can someone die, then maybe it will be taken seriously?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 21/08/2017 20:26

Have I hit a nerve or what?

No...why do you think you have hit a nerve?

Toddlers4HenDos · 21/08/2017 20:27

People who can't bear to be on a flight without nuts for a few hours have some massive issues. They probably shouldn't fly.
