To think they should just ban nuts on all flights

Ijustwantaquietlife · 21/08/2017 15:45

Just reading this and it's heartbreaking, seems like such a simple change to ban nuts on all flights to help protect people.

I've heard several people on mn saying they've been on flights where they were banned, seams to make sense as nut allergies are so widespread to just ban all together imo.

YANBU. It's not essential to eat nuts on a flight. As some people have catastrophic reactions it makes sense to ban them.

sunglassally · 21/08/2017 18:17

kittybiscuits,

No you didn't give up reading any posts.

It's all part of the debate anyway, why wouldn't you follow it, even if you don't like certain posts.

Life would be terribly boring if we all sing from the same script really.

Be like the Stepford Wives. And that is NO from me anyway!

kittybiscuits · 21/08/2017 18:17

Because they are beyond stupid.

4691IrradiatedHaggis · 21/08/2017 18:18

Say a man with a weak heart is thinking about running an ultra marathon, but he knows it could cause a heart attack and kill him. The other 999 runners really want to run the marathon. Should they cancel the entire even and not allow anyone to run in case this one man has a heart attack? Or is it up to the one man not to put himself in danger?

The man choosing to run the race is in no way endangering the life of all the other racegoers. Somebody willfully opening a bag of nuts in an enclosed space next to someone who could die is. Can you really not see the difference? They're just not comparable.

The selfish people here. My niece is allergic to nuts, she's 4. She will be choking, grasping for air if she's exposed. If I know the cunt who eats nuts on the plane near her, I'd choke him or her myself.

4691IrradiatedHaggis · 21/08/2017 18:22

Be like the Stepford Wives.

Confused ooookay..... Hmm

sunglassally · 21/08/2017 18:22

Senator,

Relax in your trax. It is just a discussion. No need to tell anyone to F off, that is just your temper rising because someone said something intelligent.

Anyway, what about the person in the Q that I mentioned before, or at home, or in the car to the airport who guzzled a larger than life pack of peanuts dry roasted or ordinary before arriving at the airbridge?

Ban it everywhere so. That is the only solution.

I love you all, especially the indignant.

Becoming invested in a topic only ends in tears. Better to be aloof but make your point with politeness.

4691IrradiatedHaggis · 21/08/2017 18:24

There's lots of intelligent comments on this thread. I've yet to see one from you though.

lljkk · 21/08/2017 18:24

Copy & paste from earlier poster...

The lady left disabled (in the OP's article) was in a restaurant in Budapest when it happened. She was nowhere near a plane.

Why is this thread not a call to arms to promote awareness in Hungarian restaurants rather than banning nuts on planes?

Also why not call for better treatments -- Amy May Shead had 2 doses with epi-pen & was still left very disabled. In theory ban all commercial sale & consumption of tree nuts or peanuts, if that's only way to protect someone like her.

trickster78 · 21/08/2017 18:24

Sunglass Sally. Come on. Yes. If that person with the 'dust all over their hands' ended up sitting next to my kid, there could be a problem. But the rest of the nuts have gone into that pesky messy eaters tummy, havent they. They're not being chomped right next to the allergic person, are they, spewing dust all around in the ENCLOSED environment with LIMITED MEDICAL HELP.

It's about cutting down a risk. Nothing to do with your human rights. And FWIW, I agree that blanket bans in 'normal' public spaces are unhelpful and lead to complacency in the allergic community. My kid needs to be hyper vigilant all the time. Great for her, huh!

WhataHexIgotinto · 21/08/2017 18:24

For the tiny amount of people who have allergies, intolerances and so on, the majority have to suffer.

Not having some peanuts on a flight is 'suffering'? Seriously, I genuinely wonder what the hell is wrong with some people. I don't have an allergy and love peanuts, walnuts etc all nuts in fact but I have no problem at all with nuts being banned on flights or many other places, because I'm normal.

Who in their right mind doesn't give a shit about someone else dying because they fancy a particular snack?

stormytherabbit · 21/08/2017 18:24

@user let's hope your precious little niece isn't exposed to your disgusting attitude and violent threats eh?

4691IrradiatedHaggis · 21/08/2017 18:25

An. Aeroplane. Is. An. ENCLOSED. Space.
FGS, are you really this hard of thinking or are you being deliberately goady and obtuse?!

trickster78 · 21/08/2017 18:25

And it's hard to remain aloof when people are arguing that their right to eat nuts in a metal tube for a few hours is more important than my child's right to live.

sunglassally · 21/08/2017 18:27

@469,

Debate the post please, and no need to attack the poster. Oldest trick in the book. If you have nothing to add to the debate forget it already.

sunglassally · 21/08/2017 18:30

@Trickster.

Got you. Understood and point well made.

I have never objected to a ban on airplanes, far from it. It is the knock on effect I am thinking about.

4691IrradiatedHaggis · 21/08/2017 18:34

Me too, it's mind boggling. I bloody love peanuts, but you don't need them on a flight.

DJBaggySmalls · 21/08/2017 18:34

IDK if anyone else has said this, but the airlines could filter the cabin air intake and change it more frequently.

BakedBeans47 · 21/08/2017 18:35

I don't think it would do any harm to ban them, even if you enjoy nuts (as I do) you can eat them at home or at your destination where it won't potentially cause a risk to others.

A ban is probably easier to manage than making an announcement every time the plane takes off.

Which post of mine are you referring to? Some of the replies are utterly mind boggling though, and seem to be deliberately going out of their way to not get it.

SenatorBunghole · 21/08/2017 18:38

Relax in your trax. It is just a discussion. No need to tell anyone to F off, that is just your temper rising because someone said something intelligent.

Au contraire, my dear. Me telling you to fuck off means there was a need for it.

Meanwhile, the problem with your argument is that it rests on the obviously moronic principle that if you can't stop all risks, you shouldn't stop any. This is, of course, not the way in which people actually operate.

OhBondageUpYours · 21/08/2017 18:39

I watched Amy today and felt so sad for her. I absolutely support a peanut ban on planes - seems like common sense to me.

Chathamhouserules · 21/08/2017 18:39

The knock on effect of allowing nuts on planes is an increased risk in a fatal reaction.
The knock on effect of banning nuts is that some people might propose universal bans, but when sensible people explain about the increased risk on planes then a universal ban doesn't happen.

Yes people might eat nuts before the flight, but eating nuts on the flight is much riskier so a ban is sensible.
