It's been around for a while, and if I've misheard it, please do correct me.
Little Mix, 'Sad Songs'. Here we go...

'So tonight, I'm going to get my mind of it, don't care that someone's got his hands all over my body'

WHAT???

You're upset, trying to take your mind of it, in a club, someone's groping you and you're not bothered?

Makes me feel ill every time I hear it. And having done a lot of driving this weekend with kids who will not listen to anything but Capital, I've heard it a lot.

Nah doesn't bother me in the least (the lyrics to the Little Mix song.)

As has been said, loads of songs - over the last 5 or 6 decades have much worse lyrics.

And as someone said, there is no hint that it's not consensual.

Also never got the fuss and hoo-har about Blurred Lines. OTT reaction if I ever saw one!

@scaryclown
If you want to be my lover, you have to do all my friends.

It's you gotta GET WITH my friends. Hmm

And Young Girl by Gary Puckett, there is no evidence that she is under age. He could be 30 and her 18/19.

Want some REALLY filthy lyrics OP. Check out 'Blood on the Dance Floor' lyrics by CANDYLAND. genius.com/Blood-on-the-dance-floor-candyland-lyrics

And listen to Cleanin' out my closet by Eminem.. Outrageous language, but a bloody good song!

Bet after this first 4 pages of this thread, the Little Mix song ain't looking so bad now eh @curlsandcurves Grin

You're gorgeous by Baby bird. Sung by a man, but the lyrics are horrible. I've often said to Dh that it's a massive double standard that if it was sung by a woman it wouldn't been seen as a 'nice' song
It wasn't meant to be a nice song, it's about exploitation.

DS watched that Herbie Fully Loaded film a couple of weeks ago, and it had a Beach Boys song on it, with lyrics that went "Took me back darling to the time in my car when you cried all night because we went too far, will I ever get you back" and he asked me where they had gone.

I said what and he said "when they went too far? Where did they go? And if it was far away, why did he leave her there and come back on his own?"

How to explain that? I mean, now I've listened to it, it sounds very much like the girl cried all night because she'd been raped in that car, and how do you explain a song like that to a child? And why is it on a bloody Disney film?

Whathaveilost · 21/08/2017 18:13

why d'you do it? By Marianne Fathful is pretty explicit and filthy!
I believe it stayed as an album track!!

ilovepixie · 21/08/2017 18:16

What about greased lightning! The film came out when I was 10 and I loved that film and just sang along without realising what the words actually meant. Only as an adult I realised what we're gonna get some tit, the chicks are gonna cream and it's a real pussy wagon actually meant!

Sallystyle · 21/08/2017 18:20

I can't get worked up my the LM lyrics. They are singing about someone who wants sex. That's how I interpret it anyway.

Batteriesallgone · 21/08/2017 18:31

I think most posters are missing the point by quoting more sexually explicit lyrics
It isn't the explicit nature that is the worst thing.
It is the fact that they are talking about washing your worries away by being groped mindlessly by someone you possibly barely know and possibly not really liking it

Waitingforsherlock · 21/08/2017 18:35

I think a lot of Little Mix lyrics are secretly rude. Stuff about 'going down south' and getting a man down on his knees for a bit of their magic potion. I am convinced that all their songs are covertly rude. I know we had Madonna back in the eighties getting into the groove etc but I think L.M appeal to a younger audience. I don't like to hear my eight year old dd singing them. As for that Rita Ora song, it always seems to come on when we are in the car. Thankfully that one seems to go straight over dd's head.

I am just not sure about sexualised lyrics aimed at little kids. I love a rude song in the right context though Grin

I don't think most posters are missing the point. I think the conversation has evolved and taken a different tangent as most conversations do. Nothing wrong with that, I'm finding it an interesting thread.

Chiselle · 21/08/2017 19:22

The whole point of "No More Sad Songs" (the Little Mix song in the OP) is that it is a melancholy song telling the story of trying to get over a heartbreak, and perhaps indulging in self-destructive activities which aren't necessarily healing at that point in time. The middle 8 has the lines "starting to realise I will only hurt myself trying to hurt you". I don't see the problem with it.

YABVU! Suggest you check out the awesome Big Booty Hoes by Notorious B.I.G. Quality lyrics including

"Leave it up to me, I get fucked all day (yeah)
Sucked all day, smokin blunts, countin cheese
Fucking bitches til they assholes bleed"

Whathaveilost · 21/08/2017 20:06

Imagine my horror ( seriously) when I heard this being played at the gym I used to go to!

Or they're talking about going to far, ie having had sex

I never feel comfy when DD8 sings " My bedsheets smell like you" from Ed Sheeran's " The Shape of You" 😞

dustarr73 · 21/08/2017 22:14

I never get the hoo ha over lyrics being sung by adults. They might be risquee but why should adults have to sing lullabys.

And I think sometimes on these threads they take the lyrics literally.

LogicalPsycho · 21/08/2017 22:21

Sharklovers before Notorious BIG's Big Booty Hoes, there was this classic by Ice-T in 1991, KKK Bitch

So, one night, they took us to a meeting
White sheets, white hoods, no room for seating
There was skinheads, Nazis, and crazies
Talkin' 'bout black people pushin' up daisies
They hated blacks, Jews, Puerto Ricans
Mexicans, Chinese, even the Indians
We had our hoods on, we were slick
She pushed her butt up hard against my dick
Then her daddy jumped on the stage
Talkin' 'bout killin' in a goddamn rage
I got mad, my dick got hard
Entered in her ass, she said, "Oh, my God!"

Hmm Grin

Imbeingunreasonable · 21/08/2017 22:22

I fail to get upset over LM lyrics. It's about being heartbroken and not giving a stuff what strangers intentions may be.

One of them even says "dancing with danger, talking to strangers, don't care where I go. Just can't be alone."

On another unrelated note I swear there's a song that keeps coming on the radio that says "don't be afraid to catch fish".

Wtaf???? Disturbing

PickAChew · 21/08/2017 22:25

DS2 has been watching dashcam videos and one of them has I drove all night as the soundtrack.

"I drove all night to get to you
Is that all right?
I drove all night, crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep to make love to you
Is that all right?"

Everytime he sings "is that all right" I have to restrain myself from yelling ^no, it's really fucking creepy and comes across a little bit rapey"

Imbeingunreasonable · 21/08/2017 22:26

Just googled it and found it. It's actually called Feels....??

I could have sworn it was fish. Thought it was some disgusting euphemism

anniemac1984 · 21/08/2017 22:27

You've obviously not ever listened to Nicki Minaj anaconda 🙊🙈

anniemac1984 · 21/08/2017 22:30

Ha I thought it was fish too!

NachoAddict · 21/08/2017 22:34

I don't think children give thatch though to songs really. They just pick up a catchy tune and sing along without listening to what thwy are singing of that males sense.

Imbeingunreasonable · 21/08/2017 22:36

I've clearly been watching too much Trawlermen.

Didn't realise it was Katy Perry doing the vocals on that bit. It definitely sounds like fish to me. Pronounce your damn words properly!
