AIBU to think you don't strum your hedge at 8.30 on a Sunday morning?

Was hoping for a lie in this morning but neighbour across the road has decided to strim his hedge at 8.30 am. As it's at the front of hus house and our bedroom is at the front of our house, it's bloody loud and has woken us up.

He's a teacher and so has 6 frigging weeks in which to trim the hedge. But he chooses 8.30 on a Sunday morning.

8:30am on a Sunday is way too early for that type of activity. I'd ask him to stop.

I used to have a neighbour who'd go and hoover his car out early on Sunday morning. As if that wasn't bad enough, he'd play Abba, loudly, with the car doors wide open while doing it.

He died a few years ago, at a pretty early age. I'm quite convinced his death was caused by the combined thought power of all the neighbours thinking "I'll fucking kill you one of these days".

I'm an early bird, but wouldn't dream of doing anything noisy before 9.30 or 10.

My neighbors release their lively boys into the garden quite early on sundays. Sometimes it can be eight but that doesn't bother me as much as I assume the boys have been up since the crack of dawn and are desperate to go out and kick balls over my fence. It wakes me up and annoys me but I'm not annoyed at my Nieghbours IYSWIM I would be annoyed at someone trimming their hedge at 8:30 though

It's selfish! I live in very busy London and everyone still keeps their noise down on weekend mornings.

Ha ha yes that's a bad typo! I blame the fact that I'd been rudely awakened from deep sleep.

8.30 on a Sunday is too early. A strimmer is really loud. I accept that after 9am.is fair play, although I personally would wait until after 10am if possible.

DressedCrab I don't know where you live but where we are the forecast says maximum of 20C today so I'm not sure the "getting it out of the way before the heat hits" holds water 😁

They quite often let their small children play noisily in the garden before 9am at the weekends and we've always put up with that as part and parcel of living in a community, but the strimmer (followed by noisy petrol mower) is a step too far.

But I'm probably just a middle aged grumpy cow who has forgotten that it seems perfectly acceptable to make a lot of noise at 8.30 am on a Sunday because you've actually been up since 6.30 with the kids!

I once did this, sort of. (Mowed the lawn at 8.30am with a push mower. Although unpowered, it still makes a fairly loud clacking noise.) One of my neighbours put his head out the window and objected.

I get up at 7am every day of the week, I'd expect to be using my time constructively by 8am. Although I am vaguely aware of their existence, It makes me feel like a bit of an alien to be reminded that the section of the population who think it's normal to be in bed at that time is so large that they expect the rest of us to be aware of them. I'm not saying they're wrong, just explaining I was disconcerted.

Maybe the hedge is really just an oversized bush Scarlet, hence the early Sunday start...prob takes a lot of strumming!

This is more or less how I feel when I see one of the many posts on Mumsnet where people complain about noise 'late at night' when they mean before 11pm. Which is why we just all have to try and be considerate of others, regardless of what time we personally get up and go to bed.
