There's a huge advert for her new album at the top of the page. AIBU to not see the point of her?

She lacks expertise or tenacity in any area, just flits from one thing to another and comes out of the woodwork when she needs some cash. I see no talent within her.

Just watched her latest release on youtube.

Grim.

southeastdweller · 20/08/2017 13:58

I quite admire her (and her mum) really. It couldn't have been easy for her as a Hackney girl from a single parent family, to acquire the necessary skills to break into the competitive world of acting and music.

Agreed but she hasn't made things easy for herself with her Diva behaviour. And doing so many things since leaving EE (theatre actress, singer, film actress, back to being on TV, face of a Yogurt, novelist, TV presenter, fashion designer/ambassador, now back to singing) with sporadic success doesn't inspire confidence.

She didn't have ME!
She had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome caused by the Epstein Barr Virus. Barbara Windsor also had the same thing.

I like Martine. She's had a tough time of it with her health. I am glad she's recovered and hope she stays well in the future and I think she looks lovely!

Birdsgottafly · 20/08/2017 14:28

""She didn't have ME!

A lot of Consultants don't differentiate between M.E and C.F.S.

Hers, like mine (and BW) was post viral. The clinic that I attend in Hospital is the ME/CFS Clinic and so is the psychologist that I see.

They are two sides of the same coin and the same condition according to some Consultants.

WhiskyIrnBru · 20/08/2017 14:49

Radio 2 have been really punting her songs the last few weeks. They're pretty unoffensive, middle of the road pop. Nothing special. But have been played all the bloody time!

Coldkebab · 20/08/2017 14:57

She could be a lovely lady. Also you cant like everyone and thats ok just maybe being openly negative towards people your not keen on is a bit rude. I wish people would be more sensitive towards each other. I just want unicorns and glitter everywhere.

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 20/08/2017 15:31

When posters just use a person's name for their thread title, it automatically makes me think they have died.

Goingtobeawesome · 20/08/2017 16:59

Spiteful - I thought that initially too.

highinthesky · 20/08/2017 19:50

Why was highinthesky's post deleted?

I can't quite remember, I think it was along the lines of MNHQ giving us a bit more credit for our collective intelligence.

Some posters clearly like her, I still don't get the appeal. Lots of stars take a break for various reasons, but there are some people that like to make mugs of Joe Public and IMHO she is one of them. Hasn't she recently spent her bankruptcy term? Her interest appears to be financially motivated rather than any love of entertainment.

Montymorency · 20/08/2017 19:54

Ha ha ha! We were at the millennium party in Greenwich, when she came on everybody trooped off (through the mud) to the loos

Lweji · 20/08/2017 19:55

Her interest appears to be financially motivated rather than any love of entertainment.

So did John Cleese in at least one of his tours.

Whatever motivation, I don't see why anyone needs a put down thread specifically for them if it's not affecting anyone's lives.

SerfTerf · 20/08/2017 20:06

Good grief. Imagine working for money.
How base Grin

Grooves · 20/08/2017 20:33

I like her, and after reading the book regarding her mother's childhood and what happened with her dad, (Martine's) I feel she's done really well.

Who else doesn't act for the "love of the art":

Dozyoldtwonk · 20/08/2017 20:48

I reckon Martine may be a mumsnetter; I wonder what she'll make of this thread.

I don't have strong opinions of her either way but I guess we've all got to pay the bills! I've heard one of her new songs and me no like, I don't think the album will do very well

highinthesky · 20/08/2017 22:47

So did John Cleese in at least one of his tours.

But at least he was open about it, albeit in a misogynistic divorce-has-wiped-me-out kind of way!

She's an obnoxious, irritating brat.

MyheartbelongstoG · 20/08/2017 23:56

I think she has a lovely voice and she looks fab.

steff13 · 21/08/2017 00:36

However, I hate the phrase: "to not see the point of someone"/"What's the point of you" etc. I think its really cruel.

I agree. It's different than saying you don't like someone; it's like saying they're worthless.

MyheartbelongstoG · 21/08/2017 00:38

Imagine if she read this.

Would it kill some of you to wish her the best!

SerfTerf · 21/08/2017 00:40

It's turned into a thread about how catty the thread is, though, hasn't it? Not really about MM any more.

aayla · 21/08/2017 00:41

I love her character in love actually.

Some posters are a bit green eyed I think.

kennypppppppp · 21/08/2017 00:42

I didn't realise Martines mother was on mumsnet. (Joke)
