To not mind buying this dress at the sale price?!

I am getting married next year and I'm on the hunt for my wedding dress.

To cut a long story short, I went solo to try some dresses on today and tried on a dress that is simply stunning. More than that, it fits me like a glove and It's on sale.

Ordering the dress totally new would cost £1600. The one I tried on today would cost £699.

My parents are paying for a large proportion of the wedding, as a gift. I haven't asked them to, but it is welcome. My sister had quite a lavish and expensive affair on them so they are quick to keep reminding me that I don't have to scrimp and save, they are happy to pay. Which is wonderful.

I spoke to my mum about the dress I tried on today and showed her a picture. She agreed it was stunning and we are going back so she can see it on. I mentioned to my mum that the lady in the shop told me that she would keep the dress behind for me so that it didn't sell before I got to show her. All good stuff.

My AIBU is when I told my mum I loved the dress and the price tag she said that she wants me to have a totally new dress, not a sample. To me, it doesn't matter. The sample is beautiful, not damaged and would not really need to be altered in anyway. It may benefit from a dry clean but that's it.

I really don't want to butt heads with her over it, especially when she's being so generous, but to me it seems crazy to pay double for what is essentially the same dress. I'm half tempted to buy the dress myself at the reduced price but I don't want to hurt her feelings.

AIBU??

WindyWednesday · 17/08/2017 21:20

That is a beautiful dress. Wow, you will look amazing

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 17/08/2017 21:20

It ISN'T possible not using

PhantomBlooper · 17/08/2017 21:21

I'm glad I'm getting the MN seal of approval.

I almost wish we couldn't order the dress in as we would have no choice to buy that one and I could throw a bit of a tantrum. I just know she's gonna want me to order in a totally new one and it makes no sense.

I would rather have the extra towards the honeymoon or a bloody house deposit!

Every dress has slight difference no two will fit the same fven an exact copy.this one might fit totally different to New even if same dress.go for this one.it might even be fitting so well cuz its not new the material now softened less newly crisp so able to mould t u just beautifully

highinthesky · 17/08/2017 21:22

If you can't sleep tonight because you're thinking about the dress, then that's the one you should buy. £700 is not an inconsiderable amount of money.

Pixie2015 · 17/08/2017 21:23

I think makes it more special if the dress you tried on is the one you keep - mine was a sample - it was what I always imagined - I added beads and pearls to it and loved it x

FlandersRocks · 17/08/2017 21:24

I was another sample dress buyer...£2500 down to £700. It was pristine and fit perfectly...why bother paying the extra?!?

Stick to your guns and insist, but find something else she can also buy if she wants. Jewellery? Veil? Underwear?

Hotdognoketchup · 17/08/2017 21:24

Maybe you could think of something else you really want for the day, shoes, necklace, earrings and she could put the spare money towards those. The dress looks lovely btw.

sourpatchkid · 17/08/2017 21:25

The link won't work for me!! Sad

Mine was sample and £1000 cheaper - it was perfect

MrsJamesAspey · 17/08/2017 21:26

Why can't I see the dress Angryall I get is the google search page Grin

Can someone screenshot it and post it so I can seeeeeeee too Smile

BrutusMcDogface · 17/08/2017 21:27

She's nuts! 😂 Of course you should buy that dress. It's absolutely beautiful!

(As a side note, one of my friends was married in blue, and she had a little note asking female guests to wear any other colour but blue! It was a sweet little note, not rude or offensive. Maybe you should do similar?)

elevenclips · 17/08/2017 21:27

Can you maybe say that each dress may differ slightly but you love the fit of this particular dress and don't want another copy of it even if it's new?
I wouldn't dry clean it though. I hate the smell of those chemicals. If you're having it, can't you wear it just as it is?

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 17/08/2017 21:28

Your dress, your choice. Doesn't matter if the Queen is paying. Tell your mum this is THE dress, it fits and you have decided. If she decides to have a tantrum about not getting to spend another £700 on a dress, then they have more money than sense and should be ignored.

PhantomBlooper · 17/08/2017 21:28

Argh, I have the picture on my phone but there's no option to attach!! If someone could help out that would be great!

OP posts:
PhantomBlooper · 17/08/2017 21:31

Good idea, Brutus, I hadn't thought of that!!

The dry cleaning thing was the only thing I could think of to make it sound better for her. I don't think it would even need that!

If bits were hanging off it I would feel differently but it's perfect!

Emillee, thank you so much Grin

Its beautiful OP.

Boulshired · 17/08/2017 21:36

It is lovely, I do think it is hard if you have already paid for one wedding of a child to let go of the comparisons. The need to show equality even when it makes no bloody sense.

deadringer · 17/08/2017 21:37

It's a real fairytale dress, beautiful!

BackforGood · 17/08/2017 21:37

Your Mum is clearly bonkers.
£700 is still a lot of money for a dress, let's be honest (it is stunning though Smile).

If she likes throwing money away, could you introduce me please and I'll come and catch some of it Grin

LazyDailyMailJournos · 17/08/2017 21:38

I bought a sample wedding dress - it needed dry cleaning but apart from that it was perfect. Your Mum is being daft!

blueskyinmarch · 17/08/2017 21:39

That is a beautiful dress OP. Your mum is being ridiculous.Stick to your guns and snap up the bargain gown.
