Flying to Dubai from Manchester in November.

So it's going to be freezing here, red hot on landing. Also going straight to a "posh" hotel from airport.

I'm getting rather anxious about this (I do have anxiety) and it's getting worse by the day! Ridiculous and first world problem, I know!)

What would you wear??

Done this trip (and onwards) more times than I can remember, usually in Business where I do all the make up off, change of clothes etc.

I usually wear loose trousers (no need to be taking belts off), jersey or something linen, with a t shirt and long loose blouse/shirt over , always with a large scarf that can be used as a cover up, pillow case or blanket , either Birkenstock or a pair ballet pumps but also discovered Mestpo (?) and they are so comfy and smart to travel in.

In my hand luggage something like yoga pants and loose top, socks and a spare set undies (oh how wonderful it is to have a nice fresh pair before landing) I change into these more or less right away, carefully fold up my other clothes and use a large ziplock bag to put clothing in so its easy to get to and force all the air out, so no creases.

I always have one kind of long necklace to finish it all off. But comfort is the key at the end of the day!

Maxi dress is both comfortable and smart. I would add a cropped cardigan, and I'd wear flip flops even though its cold here (unless you are going to be outside a lot before you get the flight )

Flip flops can be slipped off, and you can then put your socks on easily.

Loose harem type cotton trousers, loose cotton top, thin cotton cardi in handbag. flight socks, normal socks. All the long haul flights I've been on have provided a wrapped fleecy blanket for every passenger.
Loose and comfy - no tight straps or anything that might dig in.

If I'm going over night and arriving somewhere hot, I pack a crinkle type sleeveless dress that can be screwed up into my hand luggage and I change in the loos as soon as I get to the other end.

I always wear leggings/boots/jersey dress/cardigan or harem pants/trainers/vest top/hoodie, a pashmina/large scarf (that can double as a blanket/pillow depending on how chilly it is on the plane) and have a pair of flip flops/sandals as my feet tend to swell on long flights so wearing boots/trainers gets uncomfortable.

I would always rather wear something slouchy/comfy on the flight and then have a fresh outfit to change into when I arrive as even the "nicest" of outfits feels a bit grubby/crumpled when you've been sat in it, in a cramped airline seat, for hours on end. Most airports have toilets in the landing area - or at the very least in the baggage reclaim area - and they tend to have larger cubicles and an area with a clear surface/mirror which makes it easier for you to change into something fresh before you leave the airport.

Comfy, warm clothes to fly and shorts and cotton top in hand luggage. Don't forget a travel sized sunblock in hand luggage too just in case your luggage takes a while to arrive

BiddyPop · 18/08/2017 13:08

Also, in addition to the soft trousers, vest/tshirt top and a cardigan options that most are mentioning, I tend to have a Mobius scarf as well - which doubles as a blanket/cover/headcover on flights, is an extra layer in colder weather, and can scrunch up small as a scarf to look a little smarter when I land. (My general travel outfit is a nice pair of Gap grey cotton combat trousers, grey vest top, long grey cardigan or black fleece jacket (depending on how smart/casual I need) and my scarf.

Nobody will care what you look like in the hotel there are many badly dressed tourists in Dubai.

Want2bSupermum · 18/08/2017 13:19

I fly NYC to Manchester and back every 3-4 weeks. This time of year it's hot here and cold in Manchester. I keep it really simple. Black cotton trousers from athleta (which are like wearing leggings) and a tshirt with a cardigan for when I get to Manchester. I have a hoodie type top in my carry on by north face which is like a coat.

I get upgraded because I fly a fair bit. It's the airlines way of recognizing a returning customer spending a bloody fortune.

ZaraW · 18/08/2017 13:28

The people who tend to get upgraded are ff members. I've been upgraded to business when economy is full and that is with silver or gold card status.

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice on this and to update you all that I have bought some harem pants - OMG how comfy are they!! It's like wearing posh pyjamas! Can't wait for the flight now just so I can wear them 😁

Comfortable clothes (whatever is comfortable for you) and layers so it's too hot or cold you can remove or add according. You will also need to remove when you pass through security, so not too many buttons on clothes. I suggest take a wrap or sarong or big scarf that doubles as beach wear. I don't have a specific plane outfit!

SavingM0neyChoice · 21/08/2017 01:34

Long flight I always wear flight socks too

inniu · 21/08/2017 01:51

On long flights I always change into pjs on board if I want to sleep. I have a very soft grey set that roll up neatly.

Herculesfan · 21/08/2017 02:04

I regularly travel long haul and to quite posh hotels. I've never felt like I'm dressed badly when arriving in Black Nike trainers and leggings with a vest top and thin zip up top. Always comfortable too.
