Flying to Dubai from Manchester in November.

So it's going to be freezing here, red hot on landing. Also going straight to a "posh" hotel from airport.

I'm getting rather anxious about this (I do have anxiety) and it's getting worse by the day! Ridiculous and first world problem, I know!)

What would you wear??

OP posts:

  • Hush Aimee joggers
  • Longline black vest
  • Loose but not shapeless silk and cotton tee
  • Blazer and big scarf in the UK (can also come in handy on the flight as a blanket if really cold)
  • Ballet pumps in the UK, changing to flat leather sandals on the flight
  • Huge sunglasses to cover a multitude of sins
MrsFezziwig · 17/08/2017 21:07

Astounded that people think skinny jeans form part of a comfortable outfit for a long flight! Obviously I am much less skinny than my jeans! Blush

AnnieAnoniMouse · 17/08/2017 21:09

Never jeans, loose, very light weight cargo type trousers I can roll up and layers on the top - vest top, long sleeve t shirt, cardi type thing. I often find planes FAR too hot so like to be able to strip down & roll trouser legs up.

You're paying the hotel, don't worry about impressing them when you turn up.

I just got a very good deal on a nice hotel in France. I got the distinct impression it was the first time someone has ever turned up from the bus with a back pack 🤣 To get in & out you have to walk through the very expensive restaurant seating on the terrace...let's just say I quite possibly didn't exactly blend in 🤣 Meh.

Notknownatthisaddress · 17/08/2017 21:10

DEFINITELY not jeans.

Loose jogging bottoms or leggings, with comfy trainers, and a loose shirt or top/blouse, and a VERY comfy bra (or no bra!)

I wouldn't be sitting down for 7-8 hours plus, wearing jeans. You tend to swell up a bit after sitting for a few hours. You will be uncomfortable.

Ginkypig · 17/08/2017 21:11

I did Scotland to Thailand with a 9hour stop in Dubai in November.

I wore a hoodie jumper, jeans and trainers. (No coat)

Scotland was freezing so Manchester will be too, all the airports had air conditioning so were fine (if I'd had a vest top on I'd have been chilly and would have wanted a cardi I think) and once you get the hotel you can have an outfit picked out in your case to pop on

Mine was white linen trousers, vest top and lightweight white shirt worn open.

Dubai itself was like an oven so instead of a jumper what about a tshirt type top and a light cardi

Crumbs

My husband changes into pjs to sleep but that's a step too far for me

Do they look like PJ's?

...I'd love to see someone do that on a flight 😂

I don't think the AIBU was about being comfortable I thought it was more weather / posh hotel related?

Notknownatthisaddress · 17/08/2017 21:12

I am also stunned to see people suggesting jeans - skinny ones too! For a long plane flight. I wouldn't dream of it.

No. The thread title is 'what is your plane outfit?' Then the OP went on to say she is going to Dubai.

Doilooklikeatourist · 17/08/2017 21:14

Maxi dress and cardi , with boots and black tights on departure
Big scarf / pashmina / wrap as planes can be cold
Sandals in hand baggage,
Change enroute
My tummy bloats up in the air , so I hate anything tight

Papafran · 17/08/2017 21:14

People have plane-outfits? I usually wear leggings and trainers and look like shite. There is no way I would wear wedge heels or a maxi-dress to an airport.

Cailleach666 · 17/08/2017 21:16

I can't imagine wearing skinny jeans on a long flight.I hate anything restrictive around my waist if I am sitting for long periods. I also like to sit cross legged or feet tucked to the side of me - skinny jeans are too tight to allow me to bend comfortably.

So uncomfortable and restrictive. I wear loose cotton trousers, casual wrap or cardigan, all in light /neutral colours. Pair of pumps with warm socks and a light fleecy blanket in my hand luggage.
Pair of sunglasses lipstick and a necklace for arrival and job is done.

NC4now · 17/08/2017 21:16

No jeans for me. My harem pants are like socially acceptable pyjamas.

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 17/08/2017 21:19

Harem pants, vest, t shirt, oversized cashmere jumper, leather jacket. Usually down to the vest and pants half an hour into the flight. I've never been on one of these cold aircraft that everyone else seems to get.

KatharinaRosalie · 17/08/2017 21:22

Wool t-shirt (I have a few from Icebreaker). Excellent for both heat or cold and won't get smelly if you sweat. Looser thing on top. Stretchy trousers, not jeans.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/08/2017 21:22

Blimey, it seems loads of people here are wearing harem trousers.

I never ever see harem trousers in RL.

Ginkypig · 17/08/2017 21:23

Can someone post a link to the type of harem pants they mean?

selfishcrab · 17/08/2017 21:27

I have flights clothes as I fly alot.
I wear a linen short sleeved, knee length dress with pockets, leggings and leather pumps. I have a lovely poncho type wool thing that I use as a blanket for sleeping.
Merino flight socks (that I put on when I get on the plane).
When landed I take off socks, leggings and poncho thing.

SimplyNigella · 17/08/2017 21:27

I wear these which aren't ridiculous MC Hammer pants but are really comfortable :

JaneEyre70 · 17/08/2017 21:27

I have got a really nice pair of jeggingy type trousers in a thick knit from studio 8 that are super comfy but still smart, and I usually travel in those with a thin tunic/t shirt and a warm cardigan plus a large scarf if it is overnight. I always find night flights are much cooler and was grateful to wrap it round my shoulders. My biggest mistake was wearing calf high boots on a flight to New York - took them off after take off, but couldn't get my feet back in on landing and nearly had a panic attack Grin. Soft loose shoes are your friend.

IHeartDodo · 17/08/2017 21:28

I normally wear leggings and jersey dress with a long cardi, with plimsolls or zip up leather boots, but tbh that's what I wear most of the time!
Many light layers is good, so you can take them off when you're hot.
Something comfy to sit in for hours, so no jeans /fitted unstretchy things.
I always beep through security and have to take my shoes off, so no unnecessary metal bits, and shoes you can take off quickly and run in (I always end up running for a train).

MozzchopsThirty · 17/08/2017 21:29

Always have an airport outfit for long haul alone Wink
Then once on board & fed I change into track pants & take all my make up off

Then an hour before landing I change back and re apply make off and get off looking fab Grin

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 17/08/2017 21:29

The official MN version come from Hush:

www.hush-uk.com/trousers_jeans/long_harem_trousers_1.htm

Lidl sell almost exactly the same ones for about €7.

DearMrDilkington · 17/08/2017 21:29

I usually wear baggy trousers, top and cardigan. Sometimes I'll pack a dress or something to change into just before landing.

Allwashedup · 17/08/2017 21:29

Linen trousers, trainers or Jesus creepers, cotton t shirt, perhaps a lightweight cardi.
