Flying to Dubai from Manchester in November.

So it's going to be freezing here, red hot on landing. Also going straight to a "posh" hotel from airport.

I'm getting rather anxious about this (I do have anxiety) and it's getting worse by the day! Ridiculous and first world problem, I know!)

What would you wear??

OP posts:
Puffpaw · 17/08/2017 21:31

Harem pants, vest top, jumper, big cashmere wrap, slide on shoes, warm socks for on the plane. I'd probably take a cardigan for the other end too. All natural materials, no man made fibres. Panty liners to change before and after flight. I fly long haul a lot. Dubai is not too long a flight, so you won't be too much of a mess when you get there! Take make up off with wipes when you have boarded, moisturise well throughout flight, reapply make up in loo at airport whilst waiting for bags. For what it's worth I've turned up at plenty of 5* hotels looking a total state, so long as they have you reservation and you are pleasant no one cares. Always pack a spare pair of pants and a top in your hand luggage, just in case checked bags go missing.

Most people get cold on planes.

The airport, transport and hotel will have fantastic aircon, so no need to worry too much.

isthistoonosy · 17/08/2017 21:33

My 'carry everything coat' 6 pockets containing - passports, tickets, purse - cards and both currencies , further travel info, wipes, tissues, kids colouring books and crayons, small toys, raisins, rice cakes and lollipops, nappies, muslin cloth, and chocolate for me!

Its probably not what you are after though Grin

Skinny jeans??? I get plane bloat and have to have joggers for the flight. When I did loads of long haul, we had a shower and got changed at the airport into joggers to be comfy for the flight. Then change again in the loo for the landing.

TakeMe2Insanity · 17/08/2017 21:34

Done Heathrow to Abu Dhabi in December, wore wide leg jersery trousers, vest, long sleeves shirt, heavy wool cardigan with a shawl and toms. Took a night flight slept most of the way, wide leg trousers are the best to sleep in. Also means if it is very cold in the UK can wear tights underneath and remove in toilets.

Took a cabin bag with us on flight and of course luggage got delayed fortunately had change of clothes for all and swim wear.

iamyourequal · 17/08/2017 21:35

Co-ordinated cotton blouse/top and trousers, socks( for flight only). Fine cardigan and nice sandals. I wouldn't be comfortable in skinny jeans and I wouldn't dream of arriving at a posh hotel in leggings, ugg boots, trainers, a hoodie or a vest top! (Although I am a right scruff at home).

mmmmnuts · 17/08/2017 21:37

Leggings
Tshirt
Jacket or hoodie
Trainers

This. Hate being uncomfortable in jeans on long flights.

I'd wear extra layers because planes are always freezing. Wouldn't worry about heat on landing because the airport/taxi/hotel will all be air conditioned to the max.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 17/08/2017 21:37

Silk cashmere scarf for warmth if I get cold.
I love harem trousers for comfort and ease.
Cashmere socks for when my feet get cold.
Loose tshirt and no bra.

MardAsSnails · 17/08/2017 21:41

Just be comfy

Jacket at home that can be shoved into case Before checking it in. Cardigan for on the plane.

You won't be outside in the heat on arrival for long at all. If it's late night the temp drops in November.

Don't worry about what you turn up to the hotel dressed in. Most people checking in have been on long haul flights.

KimchiLaLa · 17/08/2017 21:43

Black leggings
Birkenstocks
Oversized knit cardigan
A goyard bag to stash a spare t shirt and toiletries including cleansing balm to take off make up as soon as I get on board

Don't be too overdressed

MaidOfStars · 17/08/2017 21:46

My skinnies aren't uncomfortable. The ones I have on now are soft as butter.

Crumbs1 · 17/08/2017 21:47

AnniAnonymouse - Yes they look very much like Calvin Klein PJs. Nobody seems to even notice. He pops to loo, gives cabin crew his suit to hang up and then lies down under his blanket to snore for about five hours.

My sister lives in jeans. I always wonder how she can spend a Saturday afternoon watching tv at home in jeans. She says she's 100% comfortable. How?? I basically never wear the things unless I'm going out somewhere that I have to look semi-presentable!

Different strokes and all that, I guess.

TheWeeWitch · 17/08/2017 21:49

My Next jersey tapered trousers are my flying go-to. Soft and comfy and they look smart with some nice flats, a vest and a longline cardi.

PandorasXbox · 17/08/2017 21:50

I live in skinny jeans. Comfiest things ever.

SimplyPut · 17/08/2017 21:51

Black wide leg jersey yoga pants
White jersey longline vest matching shawl cardigan in grey.
White leather converse, silver jewellery and a patterned white and grey pashmina.

Remove shoes and jewellery and its practically pyjamas!!! Never had a hotel turn their nose up yet.

BuzzKillington · 17/08/2017 21:51

I find skinny jeans really comfortable.

On an overnight flight, I cleanse my face and massage rosehip oil in and put collagen patches under my eyes and then attempt to sleep.

I rarely sleep, but I don't look parched at the end!

mmmmnuts · 17/08/2017 21:52

So OP, if you're one of these freaks who thinks jeans are comfy, then wear jeans, if not, come to the leggings/joggers dark side. You can always change in the toilet before or after landing if you must (although I prefer the proud and confident approach).

SabineUndine · 17/08/2017 21:53

Jogging pants and trainers. I'm fat and can't bear clothes that dig in when I sit.

ifyoulikepinacolada · 17/08/2017 21:54

Leggings, t shirt, denim shirt, cardi, usually converse. If a five star hotel isn't used to people turning up fresh off a flight wearing similar then I don't know what they're doing calling themselves a hotel tbh!

CrowyMcCrowFace · 17/08/2017 21:57

Long cotton tube skirt, vest top, shrug, ballet flats.

I fly regularly between London & Cairo.

Mind you I don't ever really feel the cold, & always get a taxi down to Heathrow (4 of us & 8 cases) so don't need to worry too much about dressing warmly for the UK end. If it's freezing I'd add a coat & tights. Tights rolled up & into coat pocket once on plane, coat carried off over arm.

PandorasXbox · 17/08/2017 21:59

I remember once on long haul sitting opposite a woman who was very glamorous as in full make up and hair done, nice clothes etc. Minutes after taking off she roots about in her bag and gets some cream and tissues out and takes off all her makeup, ties her hair up, took off her high heels to put big socks on, covered herself with a blanket and went to sleep. Half an hour before landing she put all her make up back on, let down her hair and put the high heels back on. Looked beautiful unlike me who had melted chocolate biscuits all over my top!

oldlaundbooth · 17/08/2017 22:00

Pre kids I used to dress to hope to be upgraded. Pencil skirt, heels etc.

Now I just wear whatever's clean Confused

mmmmnuts · 17/08/2017 22:08

Did that ever work?

JustBeingJobless · 17/08/2017 22:14

Loose jersey cotton trousers, jersey vest/tunic top, Birkenstocks and a nice big pashmina to double up as a blanket. Comfort all the way!
