We shouldnt have to, of course, but:

EVERY single time you go to a car park- supermarket/shopping centre etc, to complain EVERY single time to the security/help button on the ticket machine/supermarket etc .

You know what Im talking about.

Those bloodyselfish disablist C*s who park in disabled spaces. every time.

just this morning, went early to the superkarket. car park hardly used. very few cars there. a W* in a BMW pulls into the disabled bay next to mine, and JOGS into the coffee shop there . Still there when we came out of supermarket. no badge.

I go back to supermarkt (takes me ages with my mobility issues) to complain and the sucurity guy just shrugs. ''happens all the time. we issue tickets sometimes. nothing we can do. '' I said ''you have noticessaying disabled ONLY.

an elderly person heard our exchange and came up and joined in. he said he has a blue badge and hes fed up when he goes out and all the disabled bays are taken with only half of them with blue badges displayed and he cant get a space. he said he blocked someone in once and they , on coming back to their blocked car, didnt listen to him saying they were breaking the law doing that,(punched him through his open windowdamaged his car , and the police just didnt bother to take him seriously.

anyway.

pleaswe, if you have a blue badge, just complain, EVERY SINGLE TIME till hopefully they get the message.

its not about fines, half of them arent paid anyway, why cant their cars be towed away immediatley,? and pay a much huger fine.

bloody selfish and lazy.

on a slightly smaller note, the parentys/nannies/guardians who park in P&C spaces when their kids arent even in the car, their at school/nursery etc but just cos theyve got a car seat......

boils my piss almost more than enything else.

Disabled and elderly people are NOTHING to the ''powers that be''.

I dont think we'll get anywhere though as there are people on this thread who havent got one who also should clearly have one but we'll give it a go (well if she agrees that is!).

GahBuggerIt don't not apply for a BB just because people on here haven't been successful. It appears to be a bit of a postcode lottery, and you never know unless you try. For you and your mum Flowers

Orangebird69 · 16/08/2017 15:47

Definitely apply Gahbuggerit. My stepfather has a BB and he doesn't claim any benefits at all.

Potterhead113 · 16/08/2017 15:50

awaywiththepixies I have a bowel condition that means I need to be able to access toilets easily and the BB means don't have to walk across the car park and sh*t myself when I'm having an attack. Don't be so ignorant. Not all disabilities are visible or require limited mobility

AwaywiththePixies27 · 16/08/2017 15:57

potterhead sorry you misunderstood my post. I was being sarcastic. One of the deleted comments which ignorant people keep defending was that if you can jog to the loo/shop you can't possibly be disabled.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 16/08/2017 15:59

Not all disabilities are visible or require limited mobility

I'm quite aware of that Potterhead I have various disabilities myself. My son is also autistic. Please read the thread. I have been challenging these posts throughout the thread.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 16/08/2017 16:00

Oh and sometimes I drive a sports car others it's a kid wagon other times it's a 4x4.

I park in disabled bays and I park in blue badge bays. I'm fully entitled to do both if I park In a bay that doesn't require me to display my bb I often don't.

Potterhead113 · 16/08/2017 16:13

Awaywiththepixies27* oh I am sorry! I take it back :)

GoldenBlue · 16/08/2017 16:21

I used a disabled bat last year as my partner was in an ankle to thigh cast and was non weight baring. I needed to space to get the wheelchair out and beside the car. He didn't have a blue badge as he was only in a long cast for 12 weeks. But he couldn't have got out of the house without using those spaces.

TheFirstMrsDV · 16/08/2017 16:39

I am really glad there are examples of people with ASD getting BBs.
Its absolutely impossible in my area.
My DS doesn't need one but I have worked with families with kids with ASD who really, really do.
It was rare for me not to get what my families needed but I hit a brick wall with this one. Sad

TheLuminaries · 16/08/2017 16:46

I've been in an ankle to thigh cast and I would never use a BB bay - they are for BB holders. My broken knee was just a temporary inconvenience compared to my dads many years of chronic disability. No way would I take a BB space as a fit healthy young woman in a temporary cast.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 16/08/2017 17:05

No apology needed Potterhead Brew

Hard to tell between satire and sincerity on these sort of threads! Grin

AwaywiththePixies27 · 16/08/2017 17:07

I've been in an ankle to thigh cast and I would never use a BB bay - they are for BB holders

Did you read the part where the poster said her partner was in a wheelchair? I'm pretty sure no sensible person would begrudge them the space! Confused

TheLuminaries · 16/08/2017 17:27

Did you miss the but where he was only in the cast for 12 weeks? No BB, no BB space. A broken limb is annoying but in no way comparable to a disability - it is just a short term inconvenience.

CardsforKittens · 16/08/2017 17:45

I think the difficulty with using a disabled space for a temporary condition is that people with temporary conditions (like using a wheelchair with a broken leg) don't usually understand the relentless pain and exhaustion experienced by many blue badge holders who have to cope with the effects of their disability every minute of every day, for decades.

If my partner couldn't park in a disabled bay because the last one was taken by someone in a 12-week cast he'd have to park in an ordinary space, struggle out of the car, and hobble a much longer distance to the shop door. Every step he takes is agony. Extra steps are extra agony.

I have some sympathy for temporary conditions, but I'd still prefer to see them handled differently. Like maybe leaving the disabled space and parking elsewhere once the person with the broken leg is out of the car. These spaces really shouldn't be used by people who don't have a blue badge.

TheLuminaries · 16/08/2017 17:53

CardsforKittens I quite agree. As my dad had a long term disability with relentless pain I really did not see that as fit healthy person with a broken limb I needed to use a BB. Maybe if someone had no direct experience of disability they would not appreciate the massive difference .

Andrewofgg · 16/08/2017 18:10

CardsforKittens That is what I did when DW had her knees replaced and what I intend to do when she is again in a cast for weeks on end from October. I don't feel bad about a BB-badger waiting while she gets out of the car but then I clear off. No legitimate user has ever hooted or shown signs of annoyance once they see what is happening.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 16/08/2017 18:23

No I didn't miss it. I also happen to have plenty of direct experience with disabilities myself. You know what with being disabled and all. Confused

AwaywiththePixies27 · 16/08/2017 18:25

AndrewOfGG hope your DW has recovered well from the knee replacements. Not had them myself but family members have and I know how tricky they can be.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 16/08/2017 18:27

Sorry just saw she is due to have another one in October.

Andrewofgg · 16/08/2017 19:58

Not the knee; major surgery on the bones of the foot. Non-weightbearing for six to eight weeks which is going to be fifty sorts of bugger rolled into one. Our home is a first floor maisonette with the loo half way down which doesn't help. DS has asked her to stay with him: he has a downstairs loo and shower room and it might be the answer. The offer has reminded me what a gem of a young man we have brought up!

Voice0fReason · 16/08/2017 21:36

Blue Badges aren't issued for any disability, only the ones that somehow restrict your mobility
I have a blue badge for being registered blind. I don't have restricted mobility. And I can run!

I don't understand how anyone can get a blue badge for autism when they are able to drive. The criteria to get a blue badge that would cover autism would mean that you are not capable of driving. I know different LAs have discretion outside the standard criteria but it doesn't make much sense to me.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 16/08/2017 21:41

VoiceOfReason it has already been explained several times in the thread how a person with Autism can qualify for a BB.

Confused
Orangebird69 · 16/08/2017 21:46

Voice, an autistic child (low functioning) I know has a BB. He neither owns a car or drives - he's 14 now. However, he does need to be transported somehow so his mother drives him about. I'm assuming it's because he has very little perception of danger and road sense and at 14 is a bit big and strong to be carried or somehow tethered so the ability to park near where they need to get to (supermarket is the common example here).

Voice0fReason · 16/08/2017 21:53

I completely understand why an autistic adult or child might need a blue badge - I have an autistic child with a blue badge!
I don't understand how an autistic person can meet the very strict criteria to be able to get a blue badge AND be capable of driving a car.
There is no way that my son would be able to cope with driving a car.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 16/08/2017 22:04

Why? If you've met one person with autism you've met one person with autism. Just because your son would not be able to cope doesn't mean another can't.
