To hate the phrase full time mum

I was reading the mail yesterday (Shock Blush) and they kept referring to a stay at home mum as a full time mum. I work full time but surely that doesn't make me a part time mum?

I find comparing being a SAHM to being a nanny/childminder is the same as those who describe looking after their children as babysitting. It isn't a paid job. It's bloody hard but it's not a job.

I'm not offended by the "full time mother" description either. It makes me laugh that some people think working mothers are not full time. Like a poster has said previously... we don't use paid childcare, so who the hell looks after my kids whilst we work?!

To count as unemployed you have to be seeking work. I agree that not being in paid employment is a more accurate description.

Agree with everything LazaUbi has said and then some.
Parenting/being a parent is not equatable with paid work but that does not mean it has no value, or is not valued.
And to the PP who stated that they were not "parenting" when they went to the shops to get something for their baby, of course you are, you are meeting their needs, in the same way I am still "being a parent" when I am at work as I am providing for my DC. There are many aspects of parenting of which one is being the person looking after your child at any given time.
