I AM being unreasonable posting here for traffic but I'm half an hour away from buying a Dyson Animal and want to be sure it's worth the extra £100 on Henry!

We have a 3 bed house, a Labrador,10 year old and a baby so need something fairly reliable- last vacuum lasted just over 7 months as couldn't cope with the fucking ridiculous amount of dog hair

Tell me... are Dysons worth it?!

I hate our Dyson and love the Hetty! The Dyson doesn't pick up half as well as Hetty. It may get the hair and dust but nothing bigger, so bits of chews and treats dropped are left behind and I have to sweep up with a dust pan and brush!

GiBlues · 13/08/2017 19:31

I hate my Dyson, I was constantly unclogging pet hair from it, cleaning the bloody filters etc.
we now have a Shark rotator and although I have to clean the filters once a month it's so so much better than the dyson I'd definitely recommend it

Regalparade · 13/08/2017 19:37

I have the Dyson animal.
You have to keep it on charge a lot because you don't get much time at all

Suction not great

You have to cut hair from it every week or it doesn't pick up.
It's very sensitive.

iamyourequal · 13/08/2017 19:57

TolpuddleFarterOATB yes thanks for checking but I was using it on carpet setting, on carpet. I just found it too big and difficult to use!

chaplin1409 · 13/08/2017 20:02

We have had Dyson hoovers for as long as I can remember thrn we were flooded and had our Dyson replaced with one of the newer ones with the ball on it and I hate it so much. It's heavy and hard to move. We have 2 short hair dogs and 4 of us have long hair and the hoover brushes are always getting hair tangled up. I have borrowed my dad's henry and it's so good compared to the Dyson.

Chewiecat · 13/08/2017 20:56

Get a eufy robot vacuum cleaner from Amazon! It's amazing, gets all the cat hair out and i don't even need to lift a finger except emptying it

Hotdognoketchup · 13/08/2017 21:01

Miele is my favourite vacuum for pets, Henry lasted ages and was tough but Miele is a different class of vacuum.

BannedFromNarnia · 13/08/2017 21:14

Sebo. Sebo are hands down the best vacuums ever. Efficient, easy, just the right attachments and not loads of shit ones you don't use but then you end up having to buy something else anyway. The performance is fantastic and they're all padded so if you're clumsy like me you won't wreck the skirting boards.

Best kept secret ever. Well John Lewis sell them. But they don't look flash so people look past them when actually they are the Audi Quattro of vacuums AND if they had indicators they would work.

Had a cordless dyson. Was ok for a couple of years (though rubbish on carpets). Suction now totally crap. Spent £££ replacing parts and still useless. Replaced it totally in the end - not with another dyson! Just not worth the money.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 13/08/2017 21:36

Hated the dysons for getting up dog hair. Even on hard flooring there were always hairs left. I had an upright and a cordless. Both supposedly animal versions.

Got fed up and brought a Miele cat and dog on offer on Amazon and it's great. Picks up everyone of my black labradors hairs. I buy the bags when they are on offer at Robert dyas and change the small disposable filter with each new box (takes seconds). Thought it was breaking on me as the kid kept blowing but just needed a new hepa filter £7 on Amazon and as good as new.

StepAwayFromCake · 13/08/2017 21:50

The only thing that I hate about my dyson is that the bloody thing refuses to die! It is the most robust, most repairable, most effective vacuum cleaner I have ever had.

We had the cyclone bit replaced under warranty. Apart from that, on the rare occasion that apart breaks, it is quick, easy and cheap to buy a replacement part online and fit it ourselves.

It is 12-14 years old. We lived in a flat when we bought it, but now we're in a house I want something lighter to carry up and down the stairs. ( Like maybe one of the newer, lighter Dysons Grin)

ragdoll700 · 13/08/2017 22:32

Love my Henry would never have a Dyson again suction on Henry is much better

weeder · 13/08/2017 23:29

If you buy a Dyson from QVC you can try it out for three weeks and if you don't like if send it back.

thedcbrokemybank · 13/08/2017 23:34

Don't do it!
I hate my dyson. Worst vacuum we have ever had. Constantly clogged or needing filter washed. Can't get to blockages easily (of which there are many due to shit design.
I have just bought a gtech air ram k9 and love it although probably not versatile enough as a all purpose. I would go for a miele.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/08/2017 00:11

Plasticky pile of crap masquerading as British engineering.

ElephantsCanFly · 14/08/2017 10:41

Shark all the way! Best vacuum cleaner I've ever owned...and I've owned 7 others in the last 10 years!

I had a dyson cordless one last Christmas and I hate it think it's the worse hover I have had it less breaking and despite me cleaning it all the time and making sure the roller brush isn't tangled with my hair it's crap
Perhaps the normal dysons are better but I will be replacing once I'm back in work off mat leave

ZooLanePetCorner · 14/08/2017 12:19

i've got the handheld dyson animal and the large heavy upright - the handheld one gets blocked sooo quickly.

Honestly, what would it have hurt to put a bigger cannister on a handheld for pets? I don't use it as much purely as i'm fed up with playing find the stuck fur on the inside of the cannister.

The upright's been good but conked out after 7 years.

Torn between Miele (blizzard or C3 Bagged) and Shark Liftaway NV680...

Rinoachicken · 14/08/2017 12:26

I love my Dysn animal ball (got two cats) but agree with pp about frequent blockages. Mine lost suction completely due to this after 5 years use and was about to ditch it because I couldn't unscrew to unblock (due to dysons using their own stupid star screws) but then bought a stain screwdriver on eBay for £1.99 - blockage sorted and now good as new again!

I bought mine heavily discounted (think £200) and I don't know that I'd buy one full price if I were buying again.

Blobby10 · 14/08/2017 12:27

I hated the Dyson my (now ex) husband insisted we got - it was fine for a massive room with no corners but once you needed to do stairs or smaller rooms it was cumbersome and SO heavy.

Once we separated and I had my own house I got a Henry and whilst it has its drawbacks its certainly no worse than the Dyson and hell of a lot easier to move around.

Feilin · 14/08/2017 12:29

Miele. Will never own anything else ever again. Hands down the best vaccum I have ever had for pet hairs toddlers and skin condition sufferers.

cakeandteajustforme · 14/08/2017 15:34

Got a dyson upright about 18 months ago and have hated it until I finally coughed up for a Miele last week.
I can't claim to have used it a lot but my cleaner is a much much happier lady now that the dyson is out of my house!
