I AM being unreasonable posting here for traffic but I'm half an hour away from buying a Dyson Animal and want to be sure it's worth the extra £100 on Henry!

We have a 3 bed house, a Labrador,10 year old and a baby so need something fairly reliable- last vacuum lasted just over 7 months as couldn't cope with the fucking ridiculous amount of dog hair

Tell me... are Dysons worth it?!

Yes i do. Henry is better

iamyourequal · 13/08/2017 13:01

I hated my Dyson. It was far too heavy and cumbersome to use - I was constantly knocking chips off the skirting etc. Also, the pipe wasn't long/flexible enough to reach top of stairs comfortably and the noise it made if you caught rug fringe etc in it was horrific. The instruction to leave the filter to dry out for 24 hours every couple months was rubbish too as my lounge needs hoovering every day. I was pleased it broke after 6 years so I could ditch it and get a different vacuum..I have a shark now which I like much better (although it's ugly as hell!).

I always had a Dyson, but after reading reviews on here I bought a Miele. More fool me!

Dyson all the way in future.

Feel like I've done 10 rounds with Ricky Hatton after using the Miele. The suction, even on low, sucks my carpet out of the grippers. Can't push it forward, as it won't move.

I have to have a shower after using the Miele and after pulling a muscle in my back last week, I can't use it at all.

Dyson might be heavy, but suction is perfect, it's easy to empty and clean and I don't do my back in using it.

Anyone want to swap?

DJBaggySmalls · 13/08/2017 13:21

I've had 2 Henries and they outlasted and outperformed friends Dysons.
Also, they seem to replace the belts as often as I replace the bags.

Orangebird69 · 13/08/2017 13:21

Eh? Even my 22mo ds can push my miele around on the fabric setting?

FrogsSitonLogs · 13/08/2017 13:28

My DC can too." Orangebird

Amanduh · 13/08/2017 13:29

I've had two dysons, both broke, both were a bit rubbish. My vax was crap. Never had anything as good as my Henry.. well, Hetty!

Genghi · 13/08/2017 14:02

Love my Dyson. Works brilliantly, better than my Miele ever did.

Sarikiz · 13/08/2017 14:15

I hated my Dyson upright, heavy and hard to open to remove the dirt. Gave it away. Cant see what the fuss is about

TolpuddleFarterOATB · 13/08/2017 14:23

Personally, if you're going to invest in a vacuum, go for a Miele

TolpuddleFarterOATB · 13/08/2017 14:25

@iamyourequal are you sure you've got it on the 'carpet' setting, as mine is hard to push if I leave it on the 'floor' setting

lanbro · 13/08/2017 14:27

Got the handheld v8, possibly the best thing we have ever bought!

Serin · 13/08/2017 14:33

We went through 2 Dyson's in 12 years.

Replaced with a Henry which was less than half the price and still works like new even though we have had it for 13 years.

Live with 3 Teenagers (2 of which are scruffy rugby playing lads) a dog and a cat.

Jesterstolehisthornycrown1 · 13/08/2017 14:35

Regret it every single day. Worst €250 I ever spent. I'll never buy a cordless again.

ElinoristhenewEnid · 13/08/2017 14:40

I have a dyson dc01 - the first edition they produced - had it nearly 18 years and still going strong!

meltingmarshmallows · 13/08/2017 14:56

I have the cordless Animal one and it's amazing! I'm overly attached to it haha. It's so good for hoovering the stairs and other places lugging a Henry to would be a nightmare

JustBeingJobless · 13/08/2017 15:23

I loved my Dyson until about an hour ago when the motor blew up, making my entire house bloody stink Angry However, it's got 4 months left on it's guarantee so got an engineer coming out on Friday to replace the motor. I do love my Dyson to be fair, although I also have a Vax cordless full size upright which cost a lot less and is pretty awesome.

TheFairyCaravan · 13/08/2017 15:35

@Arborea the Shark is amazing for under beds. DH has raved about ours so much at work 3 blokes, out of his office of 6, have bought them so far and all agree they're brilliant.

We've got the Shark steam mop too. It's the best steam mop we've ever had. It's just like the hoover, it converts to a handheld at the push of a button. There's no fiddling like other ones we've had.

LakieLady · 13/08/2017 15:36

I had one of the early upright ones and it lasted about 12 years, and was fantastic at hoovering up the mass of black fur shed by the labrador I had then.

I was skint when it finally gave up the ghost, so I went to a local Dyson recycling place where they took my old one as a p/ex and sold me a recycled one for £35. I've done that ever since and never had any problems with them. Unless you count the one that had such powerful suction it sucked the carpet off the living room floor.

The guy at the Dyson place told me that the "ball" sort have a much less powerful motor and he doesn't recommend them for people with pets.

They are a bit on the heavy side though. Ideally, I'd like 2, so I can keep one upstairs and not have to lug it up and down.

LivingInMidnight · 13/08/2017 15:39

Dyson sell through eBay, you can pick up refurbished models at a huge reduction (hundreds). I love mine.

YellowLawn · 13/08/2017 15:41

the most useless thing I have ever used (came with rented flat)
what's the point of having super duper allergy 'friendly' points only to then stand in a cloud of dust when emptying the cylinder.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 13/08/2017 15:44

I've got a cordless v6, only has 20 mins of charge and it irritates me emptying it. The dust sticks up round the filter and then blows clean out the wheelie bin when emptying it. I still like it overall, the convenience of it outways the negatives.

eyebrowsonfleek · 13/08/2017 16:31

I like my Dyspn but am coveting a Shark.

MeltorPeltor · 13/08/2017 16:32

I have a cordless Dyson and she's amazing, so easy to use and copes with toddler, dog and a variety of floor surfaces. Oh and my car, which is often full of hay from the horses.

Best things ever.

Ceto · 13/08/2017 16:35

We bought one ages ago and became totally fed up with constantly having to clear the blockages which occurred regularly in one particular twisty bit of plastic, and have never bought one subsequently. I would hope that they've rectified that particular aspect of the design, but it was such an obvious flaw that we had no faith in their design abilities generally and came to the conclusion that their reputation was a bit of a case of Emperor's new clothes.
