I AM being unreasonable posting here for traffic but I'm half an hour away from buying a Dyson Animal and want to be sure it's worth the extra £100 on Henry!

We have a 3 bed house, a Labrador,10 year old and a baby so need something fairly reliable- last vacuum lasted just over 7 months as couldn't cope with the fucking ridiculous amount of dog hair

Tell me... are Dysons worth it?!

This is the only time I think I have heard good things about a Dyson. I have heard from many people though about Dysons breaking. Conversely I have heard so many good things about Henrys . Having used both Henry all the way.

SerfTerf · 13/08/2017 11:08

When we married, I had a dyson and DH had a Henry. I've done careful side by side comparisons and I cannot see the point of the Henry at all. Complete rubbish; bulky, temperamental, poor suction. But DH insists he needs it to do the cars with.

On the plus side they are BOTH still going more than ten years on.

Chottie · 13/08/2017 11:09

I had a Dyson which broke. I have used a Miele ever since.

Letstryagainshallwe · 13/08/2017 11:10

Exactly what misskelly I find the Henry so big so it's hard to store anywhere. The pipes also always full off it's dented my flooring a few times! and it gets stuck on every single corner.

CodLiverOil556 · 13/08/2017 11:11

I love Dyson so much I have 3, 2 cordless and a pull along one. I have a cordless for upstairs and downstairs...love the fact they sit on the wall and can just grab it and do a quick hoover when kids are in bath.

meg54 · 13/08/2017 11:12

My Dyson blew up on Thursday!. House still smells of burning. Woul d not buy another - bought them since they first came out but they don't seem as robust as they used to be and the spares cost a fortune.

greendale17 · 13/08/2017 11:12

Love my Dyson and won't ever go back to a Henry

gobbynorthernbird · 13/08/2017 11:13

I used to be a cleaner and have tried all the vacuums. Get a Miele, you won't regret it.

damekindness · 13/08/2017 11:14

I've got a cordless Dyson AND a Henry.....the cordless wins on easy manoeuvrability and convenience but the shortish battery life is a pain for whole house - but great for a quick whip-round - great for stairs and cars. The Henry is a bit clunky and heavy - but the suction seems way better and it can Hoover up half a house brick without complaint.

I had a Dyson Animal cylinder, replaced it with a Henry and regretted it ever since.

MuffinMad · 13/08/2017 11:15

I have had a Dyson for quite a while and it works great.

The only thing to remember is to clean the filters on a regular basis.
You just rinse them through with cold water until it becomes clear. Waiting for them to dry naturally can be a bit of a pain, so I purchased a spare set from Amazon, not the original Dyson filters, but a cheaper set (Spares2go). They work very well.

Cheekyandfreaky · 13/08/2017 11:15

Love my Dyson- so satisfying to see all the stuff it pulls up!

Henry is great for building site style stuff- both my dad and FIL work on dusty worksites often and given how robust it is, Henry copes well. However vacuuming with Dyson in a normal house vs with a Henry- Dyson wins for me in terms of how much cleaner Dyson leaves floors and carpets.

wrenika · 13/08/2017 11:18

I don't regret buying a dyson. Best hoover I've ever owned.
I wouldn't buy a Henry purely based on the fact I've only experienced them in student halls of residence and then as a hoover at part time job and both times they stank to high heaven. I guess regular maintenance and upkeep prevents this but I don't need to worry about my dyson stinking and it requires next to no upkeep!

minicheddars90 · 13/08/2017 11:19

Used to have a Dyson Animal, found that it used to block up in various places very often. Would be good and powerful once cleaned out but would quickly revert back to having to go over the same area over and over again for it to pick things up.

Now have a Shark Liftaway and can't believe the difference. A carpet can look spotless and you go over it with the Shark and it picks up a tonne of dust and all sorts that you can't believe was there. It's so powerful, haven't had any blocking problems and it's much less fiddly than the Dyson. The Liftaway feature is perfect for under beds/sofas etc.

Would never go back to Dyson now. They're half the price too!

TheFairyCaravan · 13/08/2017 11:20

Yes!

Step away from the Dyson. Do not buy they Dyson. What you need is a SharkLift Away. They are far, far, superior to a Dyson.

We've had Dysons since they came out but this last one we had was crap. We've had it 5 or 6 years and DH had had enough, he does the hoovering, so we bought the Shark. DH hoovered the front room with the Dyson, then straight away used the Shark and it almost filled the tank. I swear it got dust out of the carpet from when we had work done on the house 8 years ago.

They've got an offer on atm where you get a free upgrade to the pet power brush, here.

redfragglebiker · 13/08/2017 11:21

Love my Dyson. Two constantly moulting housecats and it's the best thing ever!

WineAndTiramisu · 13/08/2017 11:21

My Dyson animal is fantastic, wouldn't be without it.
Most things that go wrong with them are because people don't clean the filters.

WineAndTiramisu · 13/08/2017 11:21

Ps it copes with 5 Siberian huskies moulting...

callymarch · 13/08/2017 11:24

Dyson cordless for the quick vacuum and miele cylinder bagged for the while house vacuum

ILoveMillhousesDad · 13/08/2017 11:26

We've got a Dyson cordless and a henry.

Bought the cordless for downstairs and it is an absolute pile of wank. I do regret buying it. If you suck up anything larger than a spec of dust, it gets stuck in the filter and stops working.

I don't even bother using it anymore.

Good old reliable, sturdy Henry gets lugged out now. Had him for years and I would go for a henry if I were you.

sooperdooper · 13/08/2017 11:27

I've had an upright Dyson for around 15 years and I'd buy another one tomorrow if it broke, which it seems to show no signs of doing

BurchellTheBurchell · 13/08/2017 11:29

Was so desperate for a Dyson, eventually got one and was disappointed beyond belief. Awful thing, overjoyed the day it went kaput. Now have a Vax Animal and it's amazing compared to the Dyson!

flapflops · 13/08/2017 11:29

I've got a Miele Cat and Dog one and it's the bees knees!!! Love it and I've had Dyson and Henrys.

WeAllHaveWings · 13/08/2017 11:30

Our dyson is around 10 years old, can't get excited about it as it a vacuum, but does a good job and would buy another. The motorised heads you can buy are really good for stairs.
