Was at my local Aldi lady earlier this week about to drive off when I heard raised voices.... I looked around to see a mother with a child of around 5/6 shouting at an elderly lady who had parked in a parent/ child space ( there were 3/4 other empty p&c spaces free)... the elderly lady calmly told her that she was awaiting a blue badge and all the disabled spaces were full... the mother than shouted " well that's not my fault" and stormed off... the elderly lady then with some difficulty started walking away....
I got out of my car and asked if she was ok.. she said she was but looked upset.. I asked if there was anything I could do/ help with and she said she was ok! I wished her well and went back to my car really shocked that a mother with a school aged child who had already parked on the parent/child spaces would go out of her way to be so vile...

I later heard from a friend that this mother posted what happened on Facebook ... including her shouting at an elderly lady and was practically applauded for it with a lot of likes and even a few comments like she should have scratched the ladies car... my friend reported the status but Facebook said it didn't violate their standards.

I cannot believe that another person could go out of their way to be so argumentative and lack such empathy.

I'm not trying to 'pick apart' any of your posts. The one in particular speaks (or rather spoke) for itself. I don't really disagree with other stuff you've said, apart from your inability to understand that the reason people don't like P&C spaces is because of the attitudes of some people who use them rather than the spaces themselves (as Sirzy probably explained more clearly).

Orangebird69 · 15/08/2017 10:52

You'll get your arse handed to you on a plate for your post Desperad0 but I'll give you a quick civil synopsis;

1.You don't deserve any extra convenience just because you chose to breed.

  1. You're not a good enough parent if you can't guide your snowflakes across a car park.
  2. 'I managed with 8 kids as a single parent x years ago when p&c didn't exist so why can't you?'
  3. You're a wanker.

Etc etc.

Orangebird69 · 15/08/2017 10:54

whatsthe, there have been many posts on here that hate p&c spaces for no other reason that the fact they exist. If you don't read it like that, then fine. We will have to agree to disagree.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 15/08/2017 10:58

To answer sensibly Desperad0, I think the idea is that there is still a dedicated walkway to the entrance, so you're not having to dodge around cars. It still provides the extra room that can be useful if you've got young kids, but is less of an incentive for other people to use as the spaces aren't as close to the store.

Orangebird69 · 15/08/2017 11:07

Ah, at least we agree on something whatsthe - my reply to Desperad0 was indeed not sensible. It was a snapshot of pretty stupid statements made by p&c haters on the thread.

Next time, tell the kid it's adopted.

kali110 · 15/08/2017 11:09

What an absolute disgrace. Poor elderly woman.

kali110 · 15/08/2017 11:10

abuse was hurled at me I parked in a disabled space as there were no child spaces in Aldi aswell! the spaces are so tight I can't get my baby car seat out in the normal spaces, some old lady hurled abuse at me asking if I was thick and can I read there were 2 other disabled parking spaces free
Omg, are you kidding me?

of course being near the entrance makes a difference.

At both our local tesco, asda and morrisons the P&C spaces are around the building, meaning you don't have to walk on the road at all with the kids.

hannah1992 · 15/08/2017 13:05

I haven't read all replies just wanted to say that asda where I live (big one not a mini one) has a sign above the p&c spaces saying that if there is no car seat in the car then they could be subject to a £50 penalty although I have seen plenty of people who do have a car seat in the car but no child in it park in them before now. So makes no difference really.

Get some reins 😂😂😂 Spoken like someone that has never been shopping with a boystrous 4yo
Luckily for me I don't need to- as mentioned above. Seems like the supermarkets realise making shopping with children easy is best for their bottom line

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 15/08/2017 13:38

What do you do when there's no spaces free Desperad0?

Spikeyball · 15/08/2017 13:41

My 11 year old has to wear reins so I don't see what the issue is with a 4 year old wearing them.

Orangebird69 · 15/08/2017 13:42

I imagine they park elsewhere and run the gauntlet like the rest of us do or pull over to one side and wait to see if anyone is soon to vacate a space.

Desperad0 · 15/08/2017 13:42

the always usually is.

If not I'd probably go next the trolley hut thing so can put kids straight in- however there's more chance of a P&C than there is a 2 child trolley

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 15/08/2017 13:52

I have two kids, including a 'boisterous' 3 year old, and can't say I've ever had a problem getting them into the supermarket despite the p&c spots normally being full when I go. Yes it's handy if they are free, but no great hardship if not. (To then get them round the shop without losing my mind is another thing entirely.)

manicmij · 15/08/2017 13:54

I do ponder about these signs. Parent and children, parent and toddler? What is a child in relation to them? A toddler, a child that just walks? Also, are grandparents with child/toďlers allowed to use them? Some folk I see just drive in, a hoard of kids let themselves out and then run to store with adult collecting trolley. To me there is a massive amount of misuse and they should be taken away. Folk managed before with toddlers and shopping, its all another "Nanny state" pampering idea. As for pregnant women needing to use them,
What about fat folk, they too can have difficulty getting in and out of a car. Only allowance needed is for when a disabled person is exiting/getting in car and not just sitting in car wait I g on someone else coming from store. If these provisions for parents are to continue, they should be placed at back of car park, there is always a place to park trolley nearby once baby is seated in car. Ban them and stop aggravation like this lady displayed towards old lady.

Walkingthedog46 · 15/08/2017 14:02

"Parent and Child" spaces are abused. The other day I witnessed a car drive up and Mum got out - followed by 3 strapping teenagers!

Coconutspongexo · 15/08/2017 14:53

The supermarkets can't actually enforce the pentalies (fines) though can they if you park in a p&c space? Or am I wrong? Happy to be corrected

LazaUbi · 15/08/2017 15:11

Wow, that lady sounds like a very special kind of nasty.
