pandarific · 12/08/2017 12:11

I'm 33 and missed all the fun in the late 90s, being too young.

I miss MDMA in my early 20s, up all night talking talking dancing dancing with my friends. (Sigh)

Oldraver · 12/08/2017 12:13

Wildboy do you mean the one on Yarm ? I think it was Tall Trees in a hotel

MrsCharlieD · 12/08/2017 12:22

34 here and hugely missing my crasher days. I was interviewed last year about the glory days of gatecrasher and it brought back so many happy memories. Too many responsibilities now and I think a come down would probably kill me but my god we had some fun.

littleredpear · 12/08/2017 12:24

@TheDowagerCuntess

To be in love currently blasting out of my Sonos.

Thank you 👏🏻🥂

Has anybody been to one of those abominations that is a 'baby rave'?

It's a very genteel 'rave' where dance music is played at an acceptable level and you bring your children who can do activities like finger painting and making dream catchers? People breastfeeding and slinging on dance floor. No booze or drugs. I was roped into going to one with a friend and just spent the entire time staring on in horror thinking 'None of you people have been to a real rave, if you had you'd be building a wicker man for whoever organised this abomination right now'.

If anybody used to rave in London I wonder if they remember that mad woman (Jeannie?) who had her entire hair in those thin hair wraps, always used to get completely fucked up and take her kit off and dance naked? Used to bring about 10 of her feral children with her? About 45 or so late 90s?

Hers were the only kids I saw at raves back in the day. They were filthy and practically totally wild and used to rinse all the pilled up ravers for cash and pick their pockets. Or steal their drugs then sell them back to them. Or take them themselves. I saw one of her kids about 6 having a spliff once, poor sod.

A rave isn't a rave unless seeing kids at it necessitates a call to social services.

Mind you OP, if you did go you'd probably end up looking a bit like her! I think us young ones viewed her with a mixture of fascination and contempt.

LittleWingSoul · 12/08/2017 12:30

This is what the escapism of a festival once a year can recreate! Wish I was at Boomtown Fair right now.

LittleWingSoul · 12/08/2017 12:30

Oh and 40 is definitely not too old!

littleredpear · 12/08/2017 12:30

Yeah baby rave made me sad.

My kids can take Jeff Mills at 180BPM.

Mama ain't raisin no fools 😁

littleredpear · 12/08/2017 12:32

Who said 40 was old??? 🙄

littleredpear · 12/08/2017 12:33

Posted too soon.

I'm nearly there.

Still the same mess after a night out as always!

Birdsgottaf1y · 12/08/2017 12:36

Find decent Gay clubs, you will be most welcome, at any age.

FreyaJade · 12/08/2017 12:38

I'm 40... I downloaded a trance mix onto my iPhone with all my favourites & listen to it a lot!

Actually on my birthday I'm going to a bar that has a Jamaican dj my age who plays old school & new garage, hip hop & reggae, his mates have drums & it's open til 4 so...,

LavateLasManos · 12/08/2017 12:42

Cream 25th anniversary in Chester
I'm going to this OP with a few of my fellow oldies, also off to Berlin in a few months for some Techno stomping and I've been known to frequent a few Hardcore raves in Birkenhead. You're never too old!

gubbygubby · 12/08/2017 12:44

Tall trees !!!

gubbygubby · 12/08/2017 12:44

And the Arena in Middlesbrough

HipsterHunter · 12/08/2017 13:07

@MargaretTwatyer I just totally laughed our loud at your post and baby raves.

Although I have to disagree a bit.... I really like the early morning raves at the Village in Shoreditch and like exercise class raves.

The feeling of groups coming together to dance collectively to music gives me the little 'shiver' and I enjoy it immensely stone cold sober.

I'm to old to deal with come downs any more except once or twice a year, and I don't like staying up all night. A nice day time rave, somewhere hot (ibiza) and good friends = good times!

Darthvadersmuuuum · 12/08/2017 13:27

I was a raver in my teens and twenties and occasionally still lust for the music and abandonment so DH & I are going to www.moovinfestival.com/ later this month. Hopefully see some of you there Grin

IKnewItWasBullshitAllAlong · 12/08/2017 13:30

Manos, are you talking about that place on argyle street?

OP posts:
Beenbadwolf · 12/08/2017 13:30

Oh the irony of Mumsnet!!

A thread where OP is told repeatedly to leave her weed smoking other half. And this thread reminiscing about taking drugs Hmm

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 12/08/2017 13:34

I'm not on the weed thread so not sure what you mean, we are all individuals on MN. We aren't a collective hive mind. Thankfully Grin

MargaretTwatyer · 12/08/2017 13:46

In fairness been we're reminiscing about a time without kids.

I think in the 90s I probably consumed about 60% of the GDP of Colombia and probably supported several factories of illicit pharmaceutical providers in the Netherlands single handedly. But I didn't do anything like that for years before having kids and certainly not after. I doubt drug induced paranoia, filthy comedowns and the incapability to make a sandwich or do a basic food shop is much fun for kids when it's their parents doing it. Some of us are against drug taking in parents precisely because we know exactly what the effects are, not because we are some po faced stuffed shirts who've got no life experience.

LavateLasManos · 12/08/2017 14:01

Yes IKnewIt, for Back To Your Roots.

lynmilne65 · 12/08/2017 14:06

what is spraffing ?

cuirderussie · 12/08/2017 14:34

I would love to go to a rave but I think I'd really love being young and pretty and carefree just for one night. Which cannot be. Also I would be scared to take E now in case I dropped dead! Confused

Therealslimshady1 · 12/08/2017 14:38

Miss 90s clubbing too...

I was living on the continent then, never did drugs, just danced until 6am in the morning anyway to fab Euro trash club music

Still listen to it on my headphones if nobody is in the house Grin (bullet in the gun, insomnia etc)
