I go out regularly and also dj a bit techno and electro. I'm 34. My clubbing buddies are 45 and 42 respectively. As we get older it's less about drugs and staying up all night and more about the music. Choose a night or festival carefully and you won't be the oldest person there 🙂

TamanTun · 11/08/2017 23:30

Oh yes, me too! Uplifting music, gurning like a fool, being the happiest person on the planet...

IKnewItWasBullshitAllAlong · 11/08/2017 23:31

cinders, would you like an E? You appear to be missing an one in your username :) :) :)

Ah the Arches...those were the days...nothing quite like that dank musty smell and a can of warm red stripe Smile

Bullshit - how kind but no thanks

MadgeMak · 11/08/2017 23:36

Cinder, I would be ok with my kids doing it. I'd be a hypocrite otherwise. Not that I would be happy mind (just ok and accepting of their own choices, ensuring that they were informed choices), but only because I'd worry, but I will worry just as much about them going out for a night on the booze (maybe even more so).

echt · 11/08/2017 23:37

Not clubbing, but went to my first music festival at 50, and been going twice-yearly ever since. As has been said, good to encounter music you might now come across before. It helps that the festival I go only has one stage so you just sit there and lap it up. It helps that it's in Australia and the weather is invariably good.

I have, in in my early 60s, graduated to being among the oldest there, but meh.

I disagree with you madge (but thanks for the reasoned answer! finally)

I could never be ok with mine taking drugs - there was lots of press in the 90's about the harm of drugs and MDMA certainly wasn't harmless - people have died.

Acid - the smilie faces and people off their face hallucinating - not something that's ok.

I was certainly no angel but come on, lets no glorify or be sentimental about what was illegal drug taking.

IKnewItWasBullshitAllAlong · 11/08/2017 23:46

bullshit still off his/her tits aka 1990 - ha!

echt · 11/08/2017 23:50

I had to look that up, Iknew and it sounds great.

I live in Australia, and Meredith is the festival I go.

Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 11/08/2017 23:51

Littleredpear I don't understand the t shirt?

JayneAusten · 11/08/2017 23:56

I think missing it is reasonable but going clubbing in your 40s is unreasonable, so looks like you've drawn the line sensibly! I remember cringing so much seeing older people out trying to be young at clubs.

I'm like you now - remember those days with fondness whilst I climb into my pyjamas and hoodie and watch tv till 10pm lol.

Not cool with recreational drug taking though. It's illegal, dangerous and just plain stupid - and I'll stand up like a nerd and say that every fucking time.

ohtheholidays · 12/08/2017 00:05

I went clubbing in my teens(started when I was 13)in my 20's and my 30's in my 30's I noticed there were alot older people clubbing than I'd seen before.I never did the drugs though!

1 Lady was in her 60's she was lovely and everyone knew her and 1 guy was in his 80's,he was an absoloute legend and still going as far as I know so your nowhere near to old to go clubbing!

kingfishergreen · 12/08/2017 00:06

I look back on hard house, trance and jungle nights with fuzzy, nostalgic, warmth.

I have never felt thinner, more popular, or part of something so big.

But would I do it again today (aged 39.5)? Not on your nelly!!

LadyWithLapdog · 12/08/2017 00:06

JayneAusten - It's not unreasonable to go clubbing in your 40s. Has it occurred to you people don't go because they're trying to keep young or look cool but because they enjoy it.

pictish · 12/08/2017 00:07

"I remember cringing so much seeing older people out trying to be young at clubs."

Did you? We never did that. We used to think it was brilliant to see older people out having a rave...made us think we had years of fun to look forward to. Age was never an issue in the dirty, sweaty techno clubs of the day. No one gave a shit.

yorkshireyummymummy · 12/08/2017 00:10

Ohhh, bless you. Get your self out there and go for it!
I, however, cannot think of anything worse. The crowds, drinking far too much, the heat, the eardrums pounding from the music........God I loved it. But now- My feet couldn't take it, never mind the rest of me! And .....oh the hangovers. { barf} No no and thrice no.

Oldraver · 12/08/2017 00:10

I took OH to his first proper (Hard House) club when he was 52 ish.

I don't go out very much now, once every couple of years. You won't be too old in any proper club you go to for the music

loaferloveforyou · 12/08/2017 00:18

I never got into raving, couldn't think of anything worse. I've always preferred a night in the pub with mates and still do.

I can see how you would miss it though and think you should go and do it, if only for old times sake! Go for it!!

ShoutOutToMyEx · 12/08/2017 00:20

Oh, do it. I'm still in my twenties but from what I've heard the pills were different back then though.

I'm friends with people in their forties who still come out and rave. It's great. I don't think of them as any different to us.

Raisinsaretoddlercrack · 12/08/2017 00:20

YANBU, I love a good rave! When I used to go I raved with people of all ages, up to a couple of people in their 60s. We never considered them too old. Peace, love, unity and respect - if you're going to raves where you are made to feel self conscious about your age then you are going to the wrong kind!

I'm having a break due to having 2 young DC but I aim to get out again at least a couple of times a year once they're a bit older and I'm not having to pay for nursery x2. Grin

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 12/08/2017 00:30

'age was never an issue.'

My last E was when I was 29. And I remember my age because I was spraffing with some boy and he asked how old I was, then he looked right into my eyes and said 'fuckssakes doll, hope I'm still kicking it when I'm really old like you.'

God I'd kill for an e.

nikiforov · 12/08/2017 00:32

I'm 23, you can all take my place in various clubs! I can't stand it Grin

SinisterBumFacedCat · 12/08/2017 00:37

I used to love clubbing in the 90's/00's. Never took drugs, didn't even drink, just loved the music and dancing. I also used to love Ceroc dancing, sounds odd but it went really well with dance music. I would like a time machine to take me back to 1997 via a 2005 stop off. Music now days all sounds the same, like someone is trying to sell you something and not much else.
