AIBU to be excited it's nearly Autumn

Hello all, new to Mumsnet and not sure if this post is in the appropriate place? Sorry if not...

Anyway, was having a discussion with the ladies at work about how the tree leaves are already starting to change colour. The nights are slowly drawing back in and it feels cooler (although it seems to have warmed up again today).

This got me feeling excited as I absolutely love autumn and the '...ber' months!

Apart from one colleague who feels the same, the others think I'm strange for loving Autumn!

Anyone else? :D

How can people love Halloween if their DCs are older?

That's so funny.

waitforitfdear · 14/08/2017 07:59

Hate the dark nights and the cold. So depressing and dreary. It's been a terrible summer really the last good one was years ago.

Don't like Halloween or bloody bonfire night and so glad my kids are passed all that shit.

Spring and summer warmth for me every time with long light evenings.

Roussette · 14/08/2017 08:03

Glad you enjoyed it Cailleach666 ! I'm always up for a laugh Grin

Halloween never appealed to me even when the DC's were young but we did our bit and now they're adult they never mention it so I don't think it featured much for them either! It's just something to do on a dreary wet autumn night!

Cailleach666 · 14/08/2017 08:11

Rousette is there anything you enjoy?

LoniceraJaponica · 14/08/2017 09:09

Why is it funny Caiileach?

Round here Halloween is for children. I will get some sweets in for intrepid trick or treaters (we live tucked away), but that is all I will do.

Clearly if you are pagan then it is a big deal, but I'm not.

Cailleach666 · 14/08/2017 09:20

There are lots of adult only Halloween events- so clearly some adults do celebrate, even the non pagan ones.

LoniceraJaponica · 14/08/2017 09:22

I expect there are, but it doesn't interest me.

Cailleach666 · 14/08/2017 09:25

LoniceraJaponica and that's fine- it doesn't effect the rest of us who choose to have fun.

Roussette · 14/08/2017 11:23

Cailleach666
Season wise? Of course! Daft question!
If I listed all I enjoyed you'd fall asleep with the length of the post so I won't inflict that on you.

But I'm not, come Autumn, donning a pointy witches hat, hollowing out a pumpkin and dancing round a twig covered in fake cobwebs and plastic spiders, that much I'll admit!

And I've never heard of halloween events for adults, not round here anyway!

As I said, I did my bit when my DCs were little but it wasn't a big thing.

Cailleach666 · 14/08/2017 11:49

donning a pointy witches hat, hollowing out a pumpkin and dancing round a twig covered in fake cobwebs and plastic spiders,

If that's your idea of Halloween then I don't blame you for not celebrating it.

cupofteaplease · 14/08/2017 11:56

I really hate the nights drawing in. It becomes depressing driving to and from work each day in the dark!
But I do love the build up to Christmas.

squoosh · 14/08/2017 12:05

I love all the seasons with spring and autumn tied for first place. I do feel sorry for the summer lovers though because their season sometimes doesn't even appear at all.

Roussette · 14/08/2017 12:06

Yes, that's my idea of it!

If I suddenly spent a week celebrating it in some other way, I think my friends and family would think I'd been on the cooking sherry. No one does.

However Cailleach666 it is quite possible that because of where you live or because of your friends, you and them do the halloween thing and that's great... enjoy! We don't and that suits me too!

Vive la difference! Smile

Roussette · 14/08/2017 12:07

squoosh you ain't wrong there!

However, after a glorious day near the sea and boats and gentle warm breezes wafting over me yesterday, I'm coping with the rain today!

LoniceraJaponica · 14/08/2017 13:07

"I do feel sorry for the summer lovers though because their season sometimes doesn't even appear at all."

Thank you Squoosh. We are usually disappointed, and then when we do get the very rare run of nice days you get a load of people bellyaching about how they can't cope with the heat.

Delatron · 14/08/2017 13:54

Thanks squoosh for your understanding. I get it that we all like different seasons and weather but summer tends to be so dissapointing in this country.
I'm going to retire somewhere hot...

Cailleach666 · 14/08/2017 13:57

Another summer lover here. But always disappointing here.
Which is why I go abroad for the heat.
I love basking in the sun.

toffee1000 · 14/08/2017 14:10

Precisely Lonicera. It's pretty irritating when people moan about summer (after maybe two days of nice weather) when they get their preferred weather for the vast majority of the year. I will just never get the attraction of cold weather/grey skies/rain.

Dustbunny1900 · 14/08/2017 14:44

It NEVER occurred to me that Halloween (and I count The Whole fall season as Halloween season and do something spooky every single day/try and enjoy the feeling) was only for children. Now I'm a bit Sad
I never went trick or treating as a child so probably why I don't think of Halloween as just a night of door to door. Sure , I take my kids but it's a very small part.
Maybe it's where I live but adults VERY much get into Halloween here. In fact I'd never dream of taking my kid into Salem on Halloween because it's so adult oriented that night.

Cailleach666 · 14/08/2017 14:54

dustbunny- same here.

Lots of adult only events where I live.

Lolabridges · 14/08/2017 15:00

I only dislike Summer for the lack of routine, and the crowds everywhere both native and tourist. When it is very warm and humid I get very sweaty, uncomfortable and crabby. Lovely!

When Autumn rolls around, peace is restored, kids back in a routine, school work, homework, meals at the right times and so on.

As others have said, moving on to Winter..... it is an opportunity to hibernate guilt free too!

I am sure I am not alone in this.

Roussette · 14/08/2017 15:03

I think you must both be in the States. I haven't a clue what you're talking about and can honestly say I don't know about any of this! I'm not being provocative here, just telling it like it is!

I think my DCs went to maybe one halloween party, they possibly trick or treated just in our road for perhaps 3 years on one night and that was it. Until I read this thread I thought halloween was just one night so I've been educated here

Delatron · 14/08/2017 15:05

I know Halloween is huge in America but here in SE England there is nothing apart from a token bit of trick and treating (which I loathe). Does not, in any way make up for damp dreariness..!

Delatron · 14/08/2017 15:06

Cross post rousette I was thinking the same, all this talk of 'fall season' and Halloween parties for weeks.

Iwanttobe8stoneagain · 14/08/2017 15:08

Autumn is by far my favourite season and I must be at my best everyone of my relationships has begun in autumn😁
