Neighbours security guard parking accross my drive and not moving when asked AIBU

OK so it's a parking thread. We live in a street which is residents only parking for which we all pay a lot. My NDN has some filming due to take place next week for which they have suspended all our parking. Annoying but we have had plenty of notice. Today they are setting up and have a security guard who has parked across my drive all day. It hasn't been a problem so I left it but I'm expecting a visitor later this afternoon so I asked him to move and pointed out that whilst it hadn't been a problem, he shouldn't park across a dropped kerb. He rolled his eyes at me and said he wasn't aware he was parked on a double yellow and he isn't budging. Neighbours are, of course, away as they don't want to be inconvenienced by the racket of the filming so I can't ask them to deal with it.

More of a WWYD that an AIBU?

They film a lot of Outlander around here. I had to move stuff out of our window so that a Next candle holder didn't show in 1940s 'Inverness'!

tanfield90 · 10/08/2017 22:57

NDN = next door neighbour ?

What is CF please ?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 10/08/2017 22:57

Cunty fucker

londonmummy1966 · 10/08/2017 22:58

Holla that is awful. I've left a message on ndns mobile about this but hold out little hope he'll help. Their house alarm went off yesterday until very late and all the cf could do was say he was in another part of London so we should contact his wife ( who was at work).

When we went out to ask ambulance car guy why he had police no parking cones out he took them away got in his car and drove off which makes me think they all know they are taking the Michael which worries me even more. I expect this sort of entitled behaviour from non but not from the BBC

When they were filming Persuasion in Bath, someone refused to move their car off the street so they installed a fake brick wall in front of it and you couldn't tell from the camera angle that the car was there at all. Grin

Melfish · 10/08/2017 23:02

Contact the council. Ours have a filming unit. We had some filming on the street about a month ago and they had to put up suspended bay notices on the road with the times etc on them. The company also put letters through doors with what they were up to and the times they were filming, together with contact numbers.

MarklahMarklah · 10/08/2017 23:02

Personally, if I had a letter telling me that the parking suspension started from midnight on 14th, then every time someone coned areas off, I'd move the cones every time, and complain. In your position, I'd get a letter written to the council, signed by all residents affected, asking for a refund or extension of the permit/payment, and reiterating the complaint.
If you're able to get photographs/video footage of the disruption that'd help. If you have a sympathetic local MP/councillor, then bring them into it as well.
The world doesn't revolve around the needs of people making tv programmes.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 10/08/2017 23:03

They shouldn't be using police cones if they are not the police.
Can you mention that when you complain?

CockacidalManiac · 10/08/2017 23:04

It won't be 'the BBC', I wouldn't imagine. It'll be some production company who sell to the BBC.
It certainly sounds like they take the piss.

tanfield90 · 10/08/2017 23:06

Thankyou Chardonnay. I thought it might be Crossroads Farm or Coronation Fleet or something similar.

Emmerdale often is filmed in Otley Market Square. I haven't watched the programme since it was Emmerdale Farm so I haven't a clue where it is doubling for. And I still haven't got Arthur Pentelow's autograph Angry.

Melfish · 10/08/2017 23:08

I would also suggest you get a distinctive roof feature like this or a large inflatible flamingo in the front garden which would put anyone off filming outside the neighbour's house.

There was something being filmed near us and I kept walking the dogs there hoping they will get in the shoot and become stars and help pay for all that dog food they put away.

Didn't happen.

londonmummy1966 · 10/08/2017 23:22

A flamingo in front garden sounds like a good idea . Perhaps Chardonnay could bring a flock with her when the mumsnet choir come round to practice during filming next week?

Phone the Film place, tell them if you drive is blocked in you will sound your horn every 20 seconds till someone comes to let you out, if this means they have to reshoot instead of just telling them not to park over your drive then so be it.

GinDoll · 10/08/2017 23:52

If the production company arent helpful I think I'd have the urge to have a garden party with very loud music as soon as filming started. Or perhaps some drilling needs doing?

HarrietSchulenberg · 11/08/2017 00:10

Slight topic deviation here as no parking involved but my friend woke up one morning to find David Jason outside his bedroom window (ground floor, student house). Friend hadn't bothered reading the flyer the film crew had stuffed through the lettetbox the day before.

Sprinklestar · 11/08/2017 04:37

Contact the council, the BBC if it really is them filming and kick up a right royal stink! You're perfectly entitled to live in your home and park in your bay. Nothing about this changes because arsehole neighbour wants to make a quick buck (through inconveniencing every single one of his neighbours!). You're not being paid so why should you be affected? Move the cones, don't be amenable when you're supposed to be being quiet or whatever, and generally make it very clear that you're expecting to be treated like respect. What is wrong with some people?!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/08/2017 06:38

My singing can clear Oxford Street on the last days of Christmas shopping, I promise.

FairfaxAikman · 11/08/2017 07:08

Oooooh Holla you're not far from my neck of the woods.
Think some of your local shop keepers were less than impressed with the diktats of the film crew!

Goingtobeawesome · 11/08/2017 07:20

CF is cheeky fucker

SandyDenny · 11/08/2017 07:26

I be ringing the council the moment they open and see if someone could come round and speak to the production person directly then get mobile numbers that will be answered all the time they're filming.

Didn't someone on hear have a similar issue a while back, or maybe another forum, iirc they couldn't even get out of their house.

wheresmyphone · 11/08/2017 08:13

Ha ha. My friend rents out her home for films and photo shoots. She is treated really badly by everyone, even though it's her house. The security guard is treating you as he would her NDN. She says she bites her lip, ignores them as it's loads of money but she said she and her house are treated like really badly but money is worth it though usually spends half of money giving neighbours bunches of flowers to apologise for various transgressions!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/08/2017 08:23

It's was here, wasn't it, the poster who was complaining of a wall being built because of filming, right in front of their house.

YouTheCat · 11/08/2017 08:41

You need some of those delightful gnomes from Asda.
