Neighbours security guard parking accross my drive and not moving when asked AIBU

OK so it's a parking thread. We live in a street which is residents only parking for which we all pay a lot. My NDN has some filming due to take place next week for which they have suspended all our parking. Annoying but we have had plenty of notice. Today they are setting up and have a security guard who has parked across my drive all day. It hasn't been a problem so I left it but I'm expecting a visitor later this afternoon so I asked him to move and pointed out that whilst it hadn't been a problem, he shouldn't park across a dropped kerb. He rolled his eyes at me and said he wasn't aware he was parked on a double yellow and he isn't budging. Neighbours are, of course, away as they don't want to be inconvenienced by the racket of the filming so I can't ask them to deal with it.

More of a WWYD that an AIBU?

Octopus - got it in one. Angry Jax no we weren't asked, just told it was going to happen and aren't being paid - no one has ever offered us a payment for any of the although they usually make a donation to a local charity and one neighbour bought a case of wine to share out amongst us.

Anyway, a lady called from the local council film unit and said that she had called the location manager to tell him to sort it out. He then called - was very apologetic - and got the guy to move. So a short lived parking thread! However, if this is anything like the last big filming session next door (a month long and again they were away for all of it) I might need to resort to AIBU to restore my sense of humour - especially when I have to get my DDs up at 6am to go to school when they've been filming in the street until 11pm.

Wonder if it's the filming of Dr Foster Series 2.......

I'd love my house to be used in a TV series but out of consideration to my family I think I'll wait until they are no longer at school.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 10/08/2017 17:11

Don't you have a big birthday party with a lot of music all planned for when they are from lining?

londonmummy1966 · 10/08/2017 17:12

Bemused sadly NDNs are not here - they never are when they let their house out for filming....

Lizzie no it isn't Dr Foster.

Hope you kept the location managers number so you can call her with any more issues!

peekyboo · 10/08/2017 17:16

I think it's time for your children to form a small but enthusiastic indie rock band.

As it's summer they can practice outside, but for a daily fee you might be persuaded to take day trips instead.

Btw, I can't believe they've more or less taken over your parking and no one has offered any compensation for it.

Andrewofgg · 10/08/2017 17:17

Just keep blocking your own drive. Leave a note in the window saying that the drive you are blocking is your own. TNS.

Jaxhog · 10/08/2017 17:19

Another thought. If your NDN's house is so good for filming, why not offer yours instead? Then you'd get paid to go away while they film, and your NDN could put up with the inconvenience.

AllToadsLeadToHome · 10/08/2017 17:20

Pleased you have it sorted out. We had a lot of noise and disruption recently with some filming going on. It seems the Police had been made aware, not sure if that is a requirement but might be worth checking in case of any more problems.

They tend not to want to upset people as it will affect their filming if there is music playing out of windows, children yelling etc. while they are working.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 10/08/2017 17:20

Can you have a noisy barbecue in your garden for all the neighbours? Starting about now and finishing at about 11pm?

KinkyAfro · 10/08/2017 17:21

So did you have to agree to the parking suspension or did they just do it?

talonofthehawk · 10/08/2017 17:27

Hit the horn for as long as it takes

user53592952153 · 10/08/2017 17:27

Are they filming the street as well as the NDN's house?

Tell them you are having your house and car painted like this and so they will need to move their car to let the trucks in. You'd hate for their car to be accidentally repainted by mistake.

Ah, he's just another CFN. Ask anyone who's about who is in charge and then complain to them loudly and vociferously and don't go away. Keep getting in the way, complaining loudly until the CFN's bloody security guard moves his bloody car.

I've worked with film units, and the most professional ones don't want to upset people, or get in their way more than they have to. I have always found them to be as cooperative as they can be. They know how easy it would be for you to accidentally sound you horn for, oh, 45 seconds while they're filming and thus ruin a take and force them to spend even more money on doing take 2, and 3, and 4, and 95 as why shouldn't you sound your horn, accidentally knock over your tin dustbin and allow the lid to wheel away into shot, or for your child to shout, or fall over and pretend he's badly hurt and scream loudly, and - there are so many ways you can make life hard for them.

Just ask for somone in charge. Knock on the door loudly if htere's no one outside.

londonmummy1966 · 10/08/2017 17:41

Thanks everyone - I can see myself coming on here for lots of ideas when the filming starts next week. Love the idea of the psychedelic paint job but sadly next week they will be able to park outside my house but I won't despite having coughed up for a permit so they would know it wasn't true! (And no - we weren't asked about the parking suspension or if we were happy about the filming.)

What is this sense of entitlement that people think they can film things wherever they want and everyone else is so star-struck they will do their bidding?

I very much doubt any NDN of mine would try such a thing because they would know I would have none of it. And I wouldn't expect them too either.

Your neighbours will earning plenty from this, but it seems a lose-lose situation for you OP. Make their life hell, up the revolution! Grin

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 10/08/2017 17:48

Such a shame you so gracefully offered to host the MN Choir before realising about the filming.

I'm sure we can rustle up a few volunteers

cingolimama · 10/08/2017 17:49

OP, I would second what Jux has said. I work in the industry and the vast majority of film crews are incredibly professional and polite - the last thing they want to do is piss people off. It sounds as if the "security guard" is an outside hire, and not a part of the production team. I'd go and have a word with the Location Manager (and ask for her number for future reference).

londonmummy1966 · 10/08/2017 17:50

Helium this guy really is the most entitled p-taker I have ever met. He even rents out his garden shed as tourist accommodation. Wouldn't surprise me if he isn't doing that during filming as well.

We had something being filmed in our village high street the other day (happens quite often because it's quaint) and about 6 articulated trucks turned up and completely blocked the main car park for ages, including blocking in people's cars who were trying to leave.

They couldn't have given a shit.

Leeds2 · 10/08/2017 17:52

I had filming on my road a couple of years ago, and we got lots of letters from the company advising what would be happening when, and giving several numbers to contact if there were any problems. I think a couple of neighbours did phone up, and their complaints were dealt with quickly.
I would also consider asking them for payment to compensate you for your inability to park during the duration of filming. Given you have paid for this, it isn't an unreasonable request. If they refuse, tell them you willl be taking it up with the Council (or whoever has suspended the parking). Filming company won't want to annoy them in case they don't get permission next time.

Chatoyant · 10/08/2017 18:29

Is it casualty? They've filmed in my street a few times and it's been a total pain every time!

aayla · 10/08/2017 18:35

Hang on - you've paid the council to park and now you've been told that you can't use your own space?
What would happen if you left your car and refused to move it?
