Neighbours security guard parking accross my drive and not moving when asked AIBU

OK so it's a parking thread. We live in a street which is residents only parking for which we all pay a lot. My NDN has some filming due to take place next week for which they have suspended all our parking. Annoying but we have had plenty of notice. Today they are setting up and have a security guard who has parked across my drive all day. It hasn't been a problem so I left it but I'm expecting a visitor later this afternoon so I asked him to move and pointed out that whilst it hadn't been a problem, he shouldn't park across a dropped kerb. He rolled his eyes at me and said he wasn't aware he was parked on a double yellow and he isn't budging. Neighbours are, of course, away as they don't want to be inconvenienced by the racket of the filming so I can't ask them to deal with it.

More of a WWYD that an AIBU?

We had filming done at our house too and although everyone was very nice it was disruptive.

You need to seek out the Location Manager. It's his/her job to deal with the practicalities like parking, toilets, keeping the neighbours happy. Our Location Manager went and knocked on doors and introduced himself to the neighbours and I think gave some of them his mobile number. He's your man - bypass the security guard and ask someone else to point you in his direction.

lilydaisyrose · 10/08/2017 18:40

Do you live in Paddington's street? This is what I'm imagining!

lilydaisyrose · 10/08/2017 18:41

Yes I'd ask for a partial refund for my parking permit!

PoppyPopcorn · 10/08/2017 18:42

that'll teach me to reach the full thread.... Location Manager is pretty much God when it comes to this sort of thing.

NDN will be being paid handsomely. Going rate for a drama of BBC standards must be at least £750 / £1000 a day (probably more in London) - we got £300 a day for a very minor public information thing which was regional to our part or the UK only.

aayla sadly it doesn't work like that - a friend of mine was away on holiday one summer when there was filming in the road and parking was suspended. Came back to find her car had been removed to the pound. It was a different and very decent neighbour and they arranged for one of the production team to drive her to the pound and pay the release fee in cash there and then. (And appeared on her doorstep with a beautiful bunch of flowers as an apology the next day.) My CF NDN is far more likely to laugh at the idea of someone being towed.

Lily sadly not - it was a beautiful street wasn't it!

Poppy that just makes me Envy - wouldn't have hurt him to cough up a bottle of of wine each for the inconvenience then would it?

All you ladies in the know - how do I get on the film location gravy train as I'd love to earn that sort of money? And I'd make sure I was appreciative to my neighbours too.

Having lived through filming happening in your house I can totally see why NDN has cleared off tbh - I couldn't even make a cuppa or use the loo as the house was filled with lighting people, sound people, people huddled round the kitchen table watching monitors, and shouty directors yelling "QUIET" every 2 minutes. If we are ever approached again I will be giving the Location Manager a set of keys and pissing off too. Preferably to a nice hotel.

If there's a catering van you might get lunch???

PoppyPopcorn · 10/08/2017 19:01

Londonmummy - in our case it was a simple case of answering the door when someone knocked, and judging by recent threads that would rule out lots of MN people who refuse to answer the door unless by appointment. Our house is nothing special - but it's a 1960s property with fairly large rooms and there's access round the sides and back. There's lots of parking close by, no restricted parking and little passing traffic. It fits the "ordinary family home" brief perfectly. Quite a few houses round here have been used - friends had an Aldi ad filmed last Christmas and there was a film shooting recently too. We had our filming done in March, we were on holiday recently and came back to a message on the answerphone about another project. Our house isn't what they're looking for this time, but I think it's like anything, once you've done it once, been friendly, made them cups of tea and it's all gone well, they'll ask you again.

Get chatting to the Location Manager, tell them you'd be interested in doing similar and see what happens.

londonmummy1966 · 10/08/2017 19:10

Thanks Poppy - I guess having complained this afternoon the location manager isn't going to want to work with me....

Having complained she may be more likely to work with you as she knows you're not a pushover!

Andrewofgg · 10/08/2017 19:27

DW reminds me that we had filming outside us once. The power supply broke down and they can cap in hand to the hearers front door - ours - begging to be allowed to plug in. DW settled for £500 - cash.

aayla · 10/08/2017 19:28

I can't believe that the bbc can just take over your parking spaces for a week - outrageous!
This is crying out for a daily mail sad face op!

Leeds2 · 10/08/2017 19:37

With the filming on our road, the company pushed a flyer through all the houses doors explaining what would be required, and asking anyone who was interested to let them know. No idea how many applicants they had - I wasn't one of them!

Motoko · 10/08/2017 19:39

I remember reading an article a few years ago about renting your house out for filming. There are agencies you can sign up to, so just do a bit of googling.

PoppyPopcorn · 10/08/2017 19:41

It's not the BBC really - anyone can apply to the council for parking to be suspended for loads of reasons. People round the corner had parking suspended to put skips and scaffolding outside their house while renovating.

ItsNachoCheese · 10/08/2017 19:45

Have you managed to sort things out?

tinytemper66 · 10/08/2017 20:08

Casualty is filmed around my town a lot!

Brickswithstones · 10/08/2017 20:20

O

Maelstrop · 10/08/2017 20:27

You pay for parking but have been told to park elsewhere? No compensation? I'm afraid I wouldn't put up with that. Who has given the go ahead for the parking suspension?

londonmummy1966 · 10/08/2017 21:46

cheese yes things were sorted out and the lovely wife sent me an apologetic email.

Sadly it appears that our local council will roll over and let anyone suspend our parking if it means they get the revenue for a parking suspension - it seems that they will get the best part of £500 per day for agreeing to it and nothing comes back to the put upon resident permit holders.

I actually don't mind aout anything except my uber entitled neighbour thinking that the inconvenience to everyone else is an extra bonus to the sort of money poppy has mentioned

They've now parked an ambulance car outside and coned off some of the parking zones with police cones. When DH asked why they have coned it all off they said that the parking restrictions started tonight at midnight. Duh it isn't midnight yet and the restrictions actually start at midnight on 14th which is next week. Now what do I do?

Anyone - please help?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 10/08/2017 22:31

I'd be complaining to the council again.

Maybe the other neighbours can complain as well?
Not sure what else can be done.

Gazelda · 10/08/2017 22:40

Definitely report to the council. Kick up a fuss, complain about your parking being suspended without consultation and despite paying for the privilege. This Lot sound as though they could be hard work and you're not even being compensated for the inconvenience!
