To think Dressing your kids identical a bit tacky?

My friend has a 12 year old and 2 twin boys (not identical) who are 9 and every day dresses them exactly the same.
Everything is the same..tops/socks/jackets etc
I think it's a bit naff...but each to their own I guess.
What do you think?

Each to their own. But as an identical twin, I'm glad that my mum/parents always dressed us differently. Twins are individuals too!

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 19/05/2018 05:40

Heh, well now my twins are almost 2 I do dress them differently, except going into winter I had to get them parkas. We got them the same and the brightest colour we could find. One of them is a wanderer and my brain can’t process the keeping watch of 3 children in a busy playground. I just think “safety yellow” and we’re good.

Bearhunter09 · 19/05/2018 06:17

Identical twins can get away with it. No one else. It looks awful, never cute. One of my ex colleagues friends posts pictures on Facebook all the time of her two boys about 18 months age gap like this all the time!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 19/05/2018 06:23

I have an almost 3 year old and a 6 month old. At this point I LOVE dressing them the same. I’m surprised because I previously thought it was tacky too. But it is bloody adorable! I never do the exact same outfit, except for some green jersey dungarees I got from H&M, they might just be both in a top with dinosaurs, or both in dungarees. They had matching PJs at xmas (DS2 being 7 weeks old). On average I’d say they co-ordinate once a month if that, and it makes my life!

Waggingmyginger · 19/05/2018 06:27

People do it as a "I don't do second hand" thing in these parts. So to me it is a 'look at me wasting money thing'. Even though it looks cute it has distinctly gone on a list of flags that their parents will crawl up the ass of anyone with money and sneer at anyone they perceive as less wealthy than themselves.

Vibrola · 19/05/2018 06:34

My DC choose to dress the same sometimes. Grandparents and other relatives often buy them the same tshirt or pyjamas and they find it amusing to both (or all 3 if the smallest can! ) wear them.

They're all under 10 though so I doubt it'll last that long!

AllStar14 · 19/05/2018 06:37

I have non ID twin boys and dress the the same quite often, they are only one it's not tacky at all.

ToffeePennie · 19/05/2018 06:54

I have two boys. One is 4 and the other is a baby. Unfortunately I cannot buy the exact same clothes for them, but that would look so cute (they are identical in looks - you could not get similar if they were twins!)
So instead We have themed days - tigger days, where they both wear tigger stuff, Batman days where they both wear batman outfits (usually joggers, tshirt, jacket) and everything is accessoried to that outfit (bibs on the baby match the outfit he is wearing, oldest has different socks and pants to match etc) I like how my children look and I don’t think internet strangers are going to change that. I like seeing them look alike.

PodgeBod · 19/05/2018 07:03

I swore I wouldn't do this with my 2 girls 18 months apart, but honestly it's so cute I couldn't resist. I don't care if people find it tacky, if they hang around us long enough they'll find much more to judge us on. Plus my 3 year old really doesn't care what she wears as long as it isn't itchy, I've tried to get her to pick her own clothes, she isn't interested.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 19/05/2018 07:31

Wow wagging, judging by that post I wouldn’t want to be your friend anyway 🤣 what a weird way to view people.

Audreyhelp · 19/05/2018 20:28

It never crossed my mind about the not handing down thing until I read this.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 19/05/2018 20:31

I don't think it's good for children. My DC choose their own clothes. They were at a birthday party on Monday and the birthday girl and her younger sister were dressed in identical dresses.

Waggingmyginger · 19/05/2018 20:32

Yes ben you sound delightful too.

PrettyLovely · 19/05/2018 20:35

I wouldnt dress kids of those ages the same but when they are little occasionally having the same thing on looks cute.
How is it "tacky?"

Metoodear · 19/05/2018 20:48

It’s the most expensive way to dress your children and I never understand why people with twins do this your already having to by two of most things and it’s very pricey having two children at once

The lady at school dose this

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 19/05/2018 20:51

I've never had to think about this. My DC go: boy, girl, 16 year age gap, girl, boy. None of them could ever wear the same clothes! 😂

BlueJava · 19/05/2018 20:51

I have identical twin boys and I have never dressed them the same apart from school uniform (which I hate!) I think that they need their own identity not to look at a mirror of themselves every day.

PrettyLovely · 19/05/2018 20:52

Why is it the most expensive way of doing it? Surely it depends where you buy it from?

4yoniD · 19/05/2018 20:57

I have 2 dds (different ages) who like dressing identically occasionally. I sometimes eBay for a second item to match what they already have, so not hugely expensive. I don't see that it's anything to do with me, or to be honest anyone except them.

ShimmeringIce · 19/05/2018 21:04

How is it more expensive to buy clothes that match than clothes that don’t??
I think it’s cute (as long as they’re nice clothes, anyway) and DD1 loves it. DD2 is too young to know. We’ve got a few matching things and loads of secondhand stuff too!

Chattymummyhere · 19/05/2018 21:06

I don’t do it on purpose but sometimes the older dd wants the younger dd to have the same outfit and while the younger dd isn’t old enough to have a say it happens once every month or so.

loopylass13 · 19/05/2018 21:19

I've accidentally dressed me and my children in the same colours - so we look like we match, and wayyyyyyyyyyy more than once. I dressed the kids then get something random that is clean for me, only when I look at pictures later do I realise. Had to make more of a conscious effort to take note of what I am wearing and not go into mummy mode of chucking on first clean thing I find lol

reallyanotherone · 19/05/2018 21:22

I just can’t get my heas around the expense of buying everything two ot three times when you could buy them once and hand them down.

Main reason i wouldn’t dress mine identically.

PodgeBod · 19/05/2018 21:27

I don't match my children 100% of the time so do use hand me downs as well.

chachaboom · 19/05/2018 21:29

I think it looks weird, like Russian dolls and the eldest child always looks a bit silly as the younger one is the default cute one.

And there's less chance of hand me downs, which is a waste regardless of financial circumstances (For younger identical twins I think it looks ok thoughConfused).
