I live alone with my children. I am a single mother. My baby is quite difficult ATM and seems to be cluster feeding so I'm always awake quite late. She finally drifted off about an hour ago so I have been cleaning non stop since. Anyway I've been up and down the stairs putting rubbish out etc. anyway I came back upstairs and my door knocked, this was literally 10 mins ago. Obviously I got quite scared due to how late it is. They knocked about 3 times then left. Didn't knock any other doors. I can't be 100% sure but I thought I heard what sounded like a police radio. Would you have answered?! Wibu? I wanna point out now that a few months ago this same thing happened when I was heavily pregnant. I woke up in the middle of the night went toilet came back and lied in bed and my door knocked, it was roughly the same time. I know no one that would knock, or who would just show up.

Everything ok?

Starfairylights · 07/08/2017 02:01

Hi, the same thing happened to me before and I am also a single mum who lives alone.
It was my neighbour next door asking to get into the main flat as he lost his key( was very apologetic). I was annoyed as it was late but I was glad I answered as I would of been terrified otherwise.

mawbroon · 07/08/2017 02:04

I used to live in a street where the numbers were really confusing. I often got people knocking on the door late at night and they were all looking for another specific street number.

I only ever shouted through the door, never answered.

I reckon the other house was probably dealing drugs.

Dancingfairy · 07/08/2017 02:09

Oh shit! I'm terrified it was the police! He wouldn't tell me anything. Only the officers will attend and that I am not in trouble and no one has died/been injured. That's all he would say.

Going up and down the stairs several times at half 11 in a small maisonette? I'd put money on it being the neighbours rightfully complaining...

mummymattersx · 07/08/2017 02:11

So there're coming back to speak ? What a random time and then to not tell you on the phone !

GreeboIsACutePussPuss · 07/08/2017 02:12

OP, did they say it was the police knocking earlier? or are they just sending someone round because you called?

mummag · 07/08/2017 02:13

Thinking of you. When are they coming back? What on earth would warrant such a late night visit. Maybe a local incident?

AllToadsLeadToHome · 07/08/2017 02:13

I have just remembered a couple more. I had a house with 2 front doors, one to the main house and one to the extension.

Very late night I heard voices in my garden and I opened the front door to find a guy from next door persuading another one that he didn't live in my house, not sure what was going on. I think the sensible one was from the house next door which was a student let with a couple of older guys as well. I shut the door and left them to it.

Another time I heard someone bashing on the door repeatedly, opened a side window and shouted, he had the wrong house but hadn't the sense to try the actual front door with the doorbell and knocker on it, just decided to hammer on the one that was clearly not in use.

tinkerbellone · 07/08/2017 02:14

Are the police coming round again? I hope you've not got to stay awake & wait up for them Flowers
I'm single mum to four girls & live on my own & I can totally empathise with how you feel.
Also my ex used to come round drunk & knock in the door early hours. If I didn't answer he would walk around the bungalow to the kids rooms and knock on their windows Angry

thebigbluedustbin · 07/08/2017 02:18

I doubt they'd say that on the phone if it wasn't true. Hopefully this isn't something you need to worry about.

User02 · 07/08/2017 02:21

It is a bit late at night for even police to call round. They may have thought it was ok to knock when they saw lights on in the house.
Hope all goes well when they do arrive.

DoubleCarrick · 07/08/2017 02:23

In some ways it's good you know who knocked, op

TartanHare · 07/08/2017 02:23

Hope everything is ok.

thepumpk1neater · 07/08/2017 02:24

Hope all is well, OP. Did they not put anything through the door saying they had tried to contact? That''s what they did when they were trying to contact me.

pineapple11 · 07/08/2017 02:25

Hope everything is ok

ThanksForAllTheFish · 07/08/2017 02:25

smartpriceprole rightfully complaining - seriously? So you can't walk around in your own house at 11:30? Loud tv/music/parties I understand but neighbours calling the police because someone is walking up and down their own stairs a few times at half eleven is a bit OTT.

That sort of noise intolerance reminds me of the time I lived in a tiny little studio flat and my upstairs neighbour came down to complain my fridge was too noisy and I could unplug it at night as she couldn't sleep for the noise. I told her to fuck off buy some ear plugs.

thepumpk1neater · 07/08/2017 02:26

It must be important if they're calling after midnight!

whyareusernamessodifficult · 07/08/2017 02:27

They would have let you know if you were in any danger so at least now you know you're safe.

LorLorr2 · 07/08/2017 02:33

If it was the police, my first thought would be they wanted information on a neighbour who has maybe done something wrong, or someone else you know. It's the fact it's night time that's strange

Dancingfairy · 07/08/2017 02:35

Yes it was the police earlier I'm shaking they won't tell me anything

Are you OK otherwise? Who in their right mind would complain about their neighbour walking around their own house?

mummymattersx · 07/08/2017 02:39

Yeah try to stay calm, have a brew sit down x

AllToadsLeadToHome · 07/08/2017 02:40

It might not be to do with you, might be an incident and you were seen outside at the time, someone giving a false address/alibi. They never tell you on the phone, usually turn up at strange hours to catch someone out so might be looking for someone else. Try not to worry (I know it is impossible but try).

Rosie7978 · 07/08/2017 02:44

I don't know whether this has been said but iwhy didn't they shove a card through the door to say they tried to contact you? All this worry for you and you could of known from the start it was them. I can't see it being too serious because they would of called back. Try not to worry x
