To want a decent London club for over 40's?

Sister's birthday (50th) and we'd like to go to a London club - think 70's/80's disco, funk etc. Looking for something like 'Havnt stopped dancing yet' but need it for Saturday 18th August. Can't find much. Any suggestions? Or aibu to think you can still go clubbing over when you're over 40? Think it might have to be cocktails and a meal (again!).

Ronnie Scotts?

Bambamrubblesmum · 06/08/2017 10:54

Often wondered this.

If you don't mind a total mix of ages (I suspect you will be amongst the oldest there but I doubt the only ones in a sea of 19 year olds) then see if Club de Fromage is on at Islington O2. It's great!!

Zoo bar, fabric, tiger tiger

Strawberry Moons? Not sure if this is still going as I haven't been for about 15 years.

marinathehummingbird · 06/08/2017 11:17

I'm in Brighton so there's 100s but have you thought about gay clubs? Much more fun and inclusive plus better music (and I'm in my 20s!)

annandale · 06/08/2017 11:19

God the date is a real issue isn't it?

The 'design my night' website has a few potential things. Factory de joie in Hackney, though not a classic night? I'm not sure you can get exactly what you are looking for on that date in London.

dinosaursandtea · 06/08/2017 11:43

marina Gay clubs are not for a bunch of (presumably) straight women to dance to ABBA. They're a safe space for LGBT people to have a good time, hook up and not have to worry about homophobia/biphobia/transphobia. They're not the clubbing equivalent of daycare for women.

Genghi · 06/08/2017 17:30

@dinosaursandtea - not sure where you live but in London gay clubs are mainstream and inclusive to all.

RNBrie · 06/08/2017 17:38

If you want disco and funk then surely it has to be Carwash? I haven't been since it moved to Mayfair but used to go regularly to the Old Street venue. Its on Saturday nights.

Club de Fromage in Islington is on Sat nights as well. 19th Aug is a tribute to Dirty Dancing Grin. But the music is pure cheese so you might not get much funk.

The best club night for the elderly is Ultimate Power which is incredible and at least 50% of the people there are in their 30s/40s. But its on a Friday night - bugger.

Used to have a party/disco night on Saturdays (slightly cheesy) which was good fun. Although the website says there's comedy that night, they have a separate bar for that.

MartinJD · 06/08/2017 17:58

Fabric has a wide range of age ranges on a Saturday along with one of the best sound systems in the world. Go and enjoy some Tech House.

Cheers,

Annabel's :)

When I lived in London, I lived The Grand in Clapham Junction and Infernos on Clapham Common, I also like the clubs in Wimbledon and Oceana which I think has closed.

DCFlemingreportingforduty · 06/08/2017 18:21

Please don't use a gay club. As a queer woman, if I see another woman in a gay club, I assume she shares my orientation...

KitNCaboodle · 06/08/2017 18:24

You need Reflex, near St. Paul's. It even has a flashing dance floor.
I'm hurtling towards my 40s and have been a few times - not once felt old in there. There have been hen and stag dos in there so a birthday bash won't be out of place

For my 40th in London I booked a club for myself and put on my own playlist/DJ! It was the Kingpin Suite at Bloomsbury Bowl. 5 private bowling lanes, Karaoke booth, DJ booth, dancefloor, food etc etc. I really recommend it!

B1rdinthebush · 06/08/2017 18:29

Jazz Cafe in Camden! Every Saturday it's soul, funk, Motown etc and usually an older crowd than a lot of the places mentioned.

B1rdinthebush · 06/08/2017 18:31

They've got a Studio 54 night on on 19th August which sounds like fun:

Yes, Jazz Cafe is fab!

The best club night for the elderly?!

RNBrie you are wrong. Ultimate Power is the best night in London full stop!

Gala bingo Grin

MartinJD · 06/08/2017 18:45

KitNCaboodle: Reflex bar? terrible. Full of chavs! They used to have one when I was a student in Sheffield. Awful place.

Why on earth go to a chav bar when you have some of the best clubs in the world in London?
