Someone on fb has set up a go fund me page for her best friend to get married the write up says how they are soulmates they have been together years and their dream is to get married but with working long hours and family commitments and paying bills they are asking for donations! I think it's a piss take!

A guy I know, his mum killed herself. He had arranged to go on a hiking holiday abroad with a friend, so decided to use the opportunity to raise funds for a mental health charity that had given the family a lot of support. He paid for the trip himself, all the money raised went to charity. I had no problem donating.

Another guy I know moved abroad. He didn't research it properly and he couldn't get a visa easily for his wife and kids so he set up a GFM page to ask for money for lawyers fees etc. I did not donate as the whole situation was one of his own creation. He was a real dick about it all too. He ended up moving back in the end.

I have used just giving to donate to charity! I just think some people want everything but are not prepared to work for it.

It seems you don't get it Wonders71

Just Giving and Go Fund Me are not charitable organisations. They are companies who provide fundraising platforms and take a percentage of the money generated in return. It is up to you to decide whether to give. There is no coercion.

Your friends might get the money for their wedding or they might not. Would it piss you off if they did or make you happy if they didn't?

I'm guessing the latter

JustGiving is regularly used by actual charities - it's the one our local hospice uses for their sponsored walks.

Just Giving is not a charity itself. However, it used to be a fundraising platform exclusively for registered charities. It has now removed that requirement soncan be used by anyone, whether registered charity, social entrepreneur, or cheeky fucker.
