To be annoyed at council waiting times

My council has a 3 week wait for all repairs. The light in my bathroom has gone, it's not a standar bulb so someone from the council has to come to sort it. I have to wait 3 weeks! So I cannot use my bathroom after a certain time, I usually bath my children before bed but won't be able to for 3 weeks. Aibu to think it should be sorted sooner?

Think you should count yourself lucky that the council have housed you.

traviata · 02/08/2017 19:55

can't you just leave the door open with light on in hall?

Tobuyornot99 · 02/08/2017 19:55

Is there no way at all you could buy a bulb? What sort of light is it that requires a specialist to change a bulb?

ALemonyPea · 02/08/2017 19:56

Pay for someone to fix it then?

It's summer, what time are you bathing your kids? Can you not stretch a lamp to sit by the door if you need some light, I've done it before when my light switch string broke and had to wait for it to be repaired.

Moanyoldcow · 02/08/2017 19:56

Why can't you replace it yourself? Also, it's pretty light ATM - surely you can bathe them without full lighting?

ExplodedCloud · 02/08/2017 19:56

You can get all sorts on the internet.

WhamBarsArentAsFizzyAsTheyWere · 02/08/2017 19:57

Mine is the same. 28 days for non emergency repairs.

I just leave a light on in the hall, use candles or use my camping lamp.

SheSaidHeSaid · 02/08/2017 19:57

Is either pay for it to be fixed myself, put hallway light on or plug a lamp nearby (obviously well out of reach of the water though).

SaucyJack · 02/08/2017 19:57

Do you mean the bulb has gone, or that there's an electrical fault with the wiring?

Littlepond · 02/08/2017 19:57

Torch? Lamp outside with door open? Those sticky click on and off led lights? Bath the kids earlier? Change the bulb yourself?

Mumzypopz · 02/08/2017 19:58

You really aren't hard done to.

pinkblink · 02/08/2017 19:58

How late are you bathing your kids if it's dark?!

Cakesprinkles · 02/08/2017 19:58

Surely you would just bathe your children with the door open and the hall light on, or buy one of those bright camping lanterns that cost a tenner from B and Q and are rechargeable?!

titbumwillypoo · 02/08/2017 19:59

HOW many council workers does it take to change a light bulb? Answer: 12 – one to notify the parks department, two to inspect the site of the blown bulb and one to cut the hedge in front of the junction box, four more to man the cherry picker, two to fix the water leaking into the light, one to find an old-fashioned bulb instead of the new standard issue and one to tell the neighbours the darkened road may be a security risk.

anyoldname76 · 02/08/2017 19:59

i no the sort of bulb you mean, you can change them yourself

Moaning about a broken bulb? Why don't you do it yourself instead of wasting council resources for a bulb!

SprinklesandIcecream · 02/08/2017 20:00

It's a good thing it's summer and the days are long Grin. I think 3 weeks is ok, while not ideal for something that's not urgent. Corridor light, torches, floor lamp out of reach etc should work fine in the meantime.

Well if I were you I would move into privately rented accommodation and pay double the rent and hope you get a landlord who does faster repairs.........

KoolKoala07 · 02/08/2017 20:02

Hmm surely you could get a bulb and change it yourself if it's bothering you that much.

Lostbeyondwords · 02/08/2017 20:03

Jeez, what council changes lightbulbs?! Is it a concealed unit with one of those funny shaped lights like that?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/08/2017 20:04

This can't be for real

Dancingfairy · 02/08/2017 20:04

It's not a bulb, jeez I said that in my op! Some jealous people on here aren't there! Whats it got to do whether I live in a council property or not.

Because lights are usually tenants responsibility no matter where you live. It's lucky and rare to get a council who will change a bulb. So what kind of light is it?
