To be annoyed at council waiting times

Dancingfairy · 02/08/2017 19:54

My council has a 3 week wait for all repairs. The light in my bathroom has gone, it's not a standar bulb so someone from the council has to come to sort it. I have to wait 3 weeks! So I cannot use my bathroom after a certain time, I usually bath my children before bed but won't be able to for 3 weeks. Aibu to think it should be sorted sooner?

What do elderly people who don't live in council houses do when they can't change a lightbulb, I wonder, Marklah?

Bunnyfuller · 02/08/2017 21:10

Ri pay my mortgage, no one comes and changes my light bulbs. I don't think paying rent means changing a lightbulb is beyond you!

RebootYourEngine · 02/08/2017 21:12

Is it the bulb or the light that is broken?

I went 9 months with a lamp in my bathroom because my light was broken and my housing association wouldnt fix it properly and i couldnt afford to pay for an electrician to fix it.

guinnessguzzler · 02/08/2017 21:13

Wow, can't believe how harsh people are being. No solutions I'm afraid but yes you are entitled, clearly you're entitled to your council house else you wouldn't be in it. Councils exist to serve their citizens and when we all act like people should feel grateful for anything they get we let councils off the hook from their responsibilities. It isn't a race to the bottom, the fact that council housing is hard to come by doesn't mean anyone who has it should feel like they owe the rest of us.

x2boys · 02/08/2017 21:16

I'm assuming the council doesnt allow people to change those kind of light bulbs them selves not that the Op can't be arsed shame people are to thick on here to realise the difference?

wowbutter · 02/08/2017 21:17

Why are you being so helpless??

Buy a light and an existential cord, and do it that way. Use candles. Use electric fucking candles.
Good god it's not the end of the world

coddiwomple · 02/08/2017 21:17

No I don't HelenaDove, but some people are so entitled they believe they should get them apparently.

The OP is clearly getting free repairs, and moaning it's taking too long. I struggle to believe she's genuine frankly, but I don't want to start troll hunting.

Kailoer · 02/08/2017 21:18

Is this post for real?!!

SlothMama · 02/08/2017 21:21

Either change it yourself or stop moaning you are lucky to have a roof over your head!

Floggingmolly · 02/08/2017 21:23

I'm equally sure the council wouldn't install light bulbs that they had to ban tenants from changing themselves, 2boys

x2boys · 02/08/2017 21:23

It's not free coddi people pay their rents why is this so hard for you to grasp?

ClopySow · 02/08/2017 21:23

Fucking hell people.

I also live in a council high rise. I have the same light with no window in the bathroom. We are under strict instructions not to touch them and have to phone council to send an electrician to fix it.

The guy who came out to do it said it was the fucking bane of his life and all his workmates and he thought it was rediculous but those are the rules.

There is nothing entitled about being pissed off about it. Its fucking annoying.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 02/08/2017 21:24

People aren't jealous, some just get irritated at where tax money is spent - I would rather mine went to public services such as the NHS or police etc rather than paying for lightbulb repairs.
YOU aren't paying for the repair. OP is.

you are lucky to have a roof over your head!
Bollocks. Or so is everyone. Is a private tenant lucky? Is someone with a mortgage lucky? Should OP go and live in a skip?

This thread shows how woefully (and wilfully) ignorant people are about council housing. It is not free. It is paid for by the tenant.

x2boys · 02/08/2017 21:24

Oh but you would be wrong Flogging.

ClopySow · 02/08/2017 21:24

They would flogging
They do.

Floggingmolly · 02/08/2017 21:26

It is also heavily subsidised, prettyseahorse. Don't be obtuse.

x2boys · 02/08/2017 21:28

No it isn't Flogging I pay 40 quid a month less than private tenants but I was also a private tenant and for my extra forty quid I got white goods carpets built in wardrobes etc

AngeloftheSouth84 · 02/08/2017 21:28

Whats it got to do whether I live in a council property or not.
Well, if it was your own property you'd have to do it yourself. Does the council come round to dress your kids and cook them dinner too?

Dancingfairy · 02/08/2017 21:29

No need to be so harsh is there. I was only having a moan. I won't use candles as I don't like them.

I have been a private tenant for many years in the past, never once had my rent cover the change of lightbulbs Grin

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 02/08/2017 21:29

Flowers for you OP.

It's not your fault that a lot of people don't know how council housing works.

x2boys · 02/08/2017 21:29

But I needed a secure tenancy for my disabled child before people start

BusyBeez99 · 02/08/2017 21:29

Ha ha this is a wind up Op right?

Go to pound shop and get a push light to use in the meantime

Barbie222 · 02/08/2017 21:30

This isn't a sympathetic environment for your moan - you read the room badly!

x2boys · 02/08/2017 21:30

Have you read the replys the council won't allow people to ca
Change them themselves coddi?
