CFN Thread #9 (Better call Planning)

Okay so I wasn't going to post until I'd had some kind of resolution. However, planning called today to ask if they could access my garden on Friday as they need to do some "further investigation" and have another planning official who will be there to oversee it??

They wouldn't tell me over the phone what it was about (it wasn't Nice Planning Lady, it was someone I hadn't spoken with before)

Thanks pp for the thread title - which coincidentally was very apt!

No sign of CFN/ builders etc.

There's now a sign up saying
NO ENTRY IN TO PRIVATE GARDEN
CONTACT SOLICITORS NAME if you require further information.

Definitely cream then jam

Madness. But I agree about the clotted cream.

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 02/08/2017 23:13

The beauty of this thread is that there's been some really useful, expert input and advice...and although (rightly) specific to OP's particular details, it's handy in general for a lot of us too.

One quite niche problem, a bit similar to one I'm currently dealing with, was beautifully and clearly explained on no7.
You may well have saved me hours of research and £.
I'm learning a hell of a lot.

So thanks to all! Star

[Goes without saying that also extends to the rest of you, too.
You bloody brilliant, funny, creative, supportive to OP and to each other, warm-hearted loons] Smile

Stillonthatbloodycomputer · 02/08/2017 23:17

Am I the only one going for the triple topping. Butter then jam and all finished off with clotted cream Mmmmmmmm

AlltheGinJoints · 02/08/2017 23:17

WeeM I'm pretty sure we've not missed it, I think Watyys's been distracted what with all the shenanigans, shall we start an orderly queue? 🍷

bookbook · 02/08/2017 23:19

Stiilonthat - nope - here's me seconding :)

nocoolnamesleft · 02/08/2017 23:24

I once, along with another Brit, had great fun at afternoon tea on a cruise ship explaining to a Yank about cream tea. We'd take one scone, announce "I fancy a Cornish" and layer it up, and then "I fancy a Devonshire" and layer that up. As our American acquaintance, with increasing frustration kept declaring "But it's the same!!" and we'd say "No, you're not watching closely enough. Here, we'll show you again"

Ate a lot of scones that day.

In the words of David Sylvian, @MarilynWhirlwindRocks, I second that emotion! Cheers 🍷

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 02/08/2017 23:26

Oppps - although the cream & jam maybe reversed.

user1471548375 · 02/08/2017 23:27

Are any of you putting butter on the scone? I did this once, butter, jam, cream and my mom almost disowned me - it was the butter. I've missed lots of the thread as I've done a bit of op hunting since thread 7 - sorry but I'm on holiday and it took over my entire weekend that I had to stop. Yorkshire - north if this makes any difference.

justoneday · 02/08/2017 23:30

Oh and to start a different discussion, it's a scon not a scone - magic e for old school or split digraph for you in the know of phonics.

prettybird · 02/08/2017 23:33

Stillon - another tripler Smile

Although I'm currently on MN Boot Camp (ie the HFLC WoE) so technically can't have it. Although if I can come up with an almond/butter/egg/baking powder concoction, I can slather lavishly layer the butter, lots of clotted cream and some raspberries/strawberries on it and still be HFLC Wink salivating

HerRoyalFattyness · 02/08/2017 23:35

hello! again.
I'm just going to mark my place then go to bed.

justoneday · 02/08/2017 23:36

Sorry stillon, maybe I saw your post and subconsciously posted, it was only 5 post before mine. But yeah, I'm with you. Fancy going out for afternoon tea of scone and coffee?

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 02/08/2017 23:36

Night, all.

Buenas noches a todos.

justoneday · 02/08/2017 23:37

Bon soir

C8H10N4O2 · 02/08/2017 23:42

@scaryteacher precisely! I was shocked I tell you! Shocked at the horror of cream under the jam.

I have recovered now enough to say probs Rodda's although Auntie's home made was best.

But no butter...loose (is that the word?) scones that soak in the soft fruity jam and leave an nice uneven surface to pile up the cream.

Looks mournfully at hotel biscuits.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 02/08/2017 23:45

Phew!
After what seems like a long day consumed by RL, I have (sort of) caught up on the last thread and relieved to have found this one.

Schadenfreude I love you a bit. Your Putin updates are a joy.

Are we suffering from mass hysteria? There's I chance I may Have it all by myself Grin

How long before someone tells us off for having too much fun?

Love to wattyy, Spangran and all you wonderful MNers.

scaryteacher · 02/08/2017 23:46

Gingergenius Of course jam first (well butter, then jam). Tedn't right, tedn't proper any other way on my side of the Tamar.

Langage is ok as a very poor substitute if Roddas or Trewithen unavailable, but Cornish is the best. In the British shop near me in Flanders, they sell what purports to be clotted cream (made in Glos) in glass jars and flavoured. That definitely tedn't right or proper, but those who run the shop are from Norfolk and don't understand clotted cream.

I am actually a Janner, but home when living in UK is in Cornwall...and even when living in Dartmouth as a kid in the 70s, it was always jam first, then cream. My Mum lives Devon side. and she does jam first too......

newdaddie · 02/08/2017 23:47

I'm guessing that the 'Stop notice' will 'in force' by Friday too.

(They're not 'active' immediately as far as I'm aware and take 3-28 days depending on the case, I've dealt with properties in conservation areas but never had a listed one)

So it might just be that the head honcho is coming out or it could just be that Friday will be the official evidence gathering visit.

and this placemark is well and truly in force

gingergenius · 02/08/2017 23:47

In honour of @WhatIsThisWatt's excellent planning update, I have created a unique flag for her, to fly proud chez wattyyy for Friday, when the the Lord VIP of planners come. And I've included the colours of the Spanish flag especially for SpanGran.
